The Congress and Senate did not listen to the outcries of their people on both the right and left in opposition to this bill.

They passed it and ignored the people.

What the hell can be done about this?

Well, I've heard some states have passed legislation nullifying the bill, or something like that, like they did with the Real I.D. act. Unfortunantly, not enough states have done so to really make a difference. Also like the Real I.D. act. Anyway, the point is, writing to your state legislators could help. States seem to be more in touch with the voters then the Federal Government is.

I think that's the only thing I can do. What worries me is that I'm originally from Ohio (I emigrated to Australia during Bush's administration) and recently Ohio legislators have been playing buddy buddy with Obama, especially since we have a Democrat as a governor.

But I just gotta hope it'll do some good.

Is your state putting it down?

EDIT:

Alright I just sent an email. Hopefully he realizes that I can still vote halfway across the world if he does what his people want. lol

I doubt it. Florida seems to be more and more progressive these days, from what I can tell. Or maybe we've always been that way, and I just didn't notice before. Anyway, I kinda doubt they're going to vote it down. Won't stop me from writing them, though.

That's worrying really.

I hate how "progressive" is still a term that's with us. It's a backhanded term whipped up in the early 1900's by politicians to push through socialist or psuedo-socialist policies and make you feel good about it.

Here's to hoping your writing does some good too. Luckily I'm from Moderate central, so there might still be some reasoning.

Its mostly referred to as "liberal" now, but too many Libertarians remember what a "classic" liberal was, and get kinda confused. So its back to the old term. But yeah, progressive and "modern" liberal basically mean the same thing these days.

I live in that very state, good ol' Virginia. Eat that Obama! But really, poorer states don't want NHS. Makes you wonder who this is really helping.

Quite frankly I believe this is just one more step the governement is taking to make this nation a socialist/ communist state. No one will agree to an overnight radical change but if they gradually change the system overtime then they believe that they can progress this nation to this type of government.

"Socialism starts with healthcare."

- Ronald Reagan

I think we should remember that. I've written to my district representative and I hope that it does some good.

I'm really worried about the direction our country's been taking over the past decade. The government has been expanding more and more and slowly whittling away the private sector and individual civil rights.

It's a slippery slope and the more that goes the more America will fall.

I don't know what else can be done other than writing to our representatives, but seeing the Health Care Bill being passed is really frightening considering that means we're not being listened to in our government. We need to do something to take the power back.

The past decade? More like the past 5-7 decades. Ever since Nixon started the War on Drugs, or the rampant violations of civil rights know as Mcarthyism, desighned to fight communist (Which we are doing again to fight terrorists, btw) we've been on a massive slippery slope towards socialism. Of course, it all started with FDR, and his "New Deal" programs, but that was just a spark compared to what followed.

I believe the only real way to take our country back is to focus 100% of our efforts to electing Libertarians into State governments. Federal offices are still out of reach, and city councils or county commisions don't have the authority to nullify national laws. The 10th amendment gave that power to the states, and it is the states that must challenge it. If we can elect a Libertarian Governer, or get a significant number of seats in the state Legislatures, then we'll have a fighting chance.

Well that is true I should say. I've thought the same thing a lot actually. You're the first person I've met who's shared that view, so I usually keep it to myself.

Yeah I've become a supporter of the Libertarian Party of Ohio on Facebook. I'm just waiting for them to announce a candidate so I know who to vote for.

Also I recieved an email back from my district rep the other day and he said he's gonna fight the bill being put in Ohio. He said I should call the Speaker of the House but... Being in self induced exile half a world away makes a call to a politician a bit costly. lol
