Kalia had been pondering the same thing as her mate as the two other wolves arrived at the kill. How would the eating order go? In her old pack it was always the alphas who ate first, then the pregnant females and the pups--a pack is nothing without its healthy young--then the betas and so on. But what was Catalyst used to? She had never really asked him about his other pack, thinking the topic may have been a bit too sensitive for him.

Not liking all of this inward indecision, she returned to her old self for a moment, acting forward and straight to the point.

"Eating order," the large female stated plainly. "I was thinking perhaps alphas first, then pregnant females... or pregnant females first being as a kill might not always hold enough meat... oh, and puppies also, they must have enough to eat. But if there are neither pups nor pregnant females, then the alphas first?" A sudden look of frustration overcame her pretty face. Gosh, things were so much easier when one was simply born into a pack with its rules all set up and secured already.

Looking to her mate, then to the larger female, Kal stayed silent from there on, hoping to get some sort of input from the others. Catalyst she definitely expected to hear something from, but Kirra she just hoped would open up at least slightly and perhaps make a little suggestion. If she was to live in a pack, then she would have to deal with many around her, possibly wanting to socialize.

And it wasn't just that, either. The gray wolfess was actually beginning to adore Kirra as a sort of sister or something. She wanted the other to be comfortable, feel at home...

Kirra sat silently as the two alphas hashed out what they believed would be the eating orders. Eating last was certainly no quandary for her- she'd never not eaten last, so it was more second nature now then anything. She was pleased to hear, however, that Kalia was thoughtful enough to be making compensations for the pregnant females- who occasionally didn't even eat from the main kill because of the time it took to move them. Ever since lower ranking wolves had began to bare offspring, this had made for some problems in previous packs she had been in- including one instance where a female had a phantom pregnancy instead of a real one. Such instances were strange (And she herself had gone over one as well- so she was sympathetic), and she didn't like seeing them happen amongst the lower wolves. When food was well distributed however, there were few problems. Wolves were a creature which liked it's meal, and it wouldn't be too wrong to say that all of their political problems may start at some source of food or another.

Her ears swayed softly, the black coal cap on the top of her snout flinching somewhat with the smell of blood in the air. It was a good kill, this was to be certain.

Kalia nodded, finding her mate's reasoning to be better than her own. If there were more pups and pregnant females than there were alphas--which would probably be all of the time being as there are only two alphas--then it wouldn't make sense, really.

Shifting slightly, she spoke out. "Yes, that sounds good. The alphas should eat first, then the pups and pregnant females." And if it ever came to the point where there wasn't enough food for all, the pups would no doubt get to eat before her. They wouldn't be able to cope with the lack of food as well as she could.

Following Catalyst's gaze, Kal also looked over towards Kirra. Her low self-esteem and her low ranking right now might make it so she was the one to eat last. This didn't really appeal to her at the moment, but there wasn't much she could do. Hopefully things would improve with time. So, seeing no reason to worry or anything over it right now, the wolfess moved around the carcass.

A moment later she tore open a section of the meat. She blinked, meat hanging from her mouth, at her mate, waiting for him to dig in too.

But she felt strangely rude... eating the juicy meat right in front of Kirra while she had to wait for her turn to eat.

Although Catalyst might have felt slightly uneasy eating in her presence, the brute of a female did not particularly feel any sort of extrication by the matter. It wasn't even something she pondered- she simply tucked her bulky paws beneath the bride of her sternum, and rested her head gently upon the ground to wait when she felt the most decent time would be to join the eating. She was ravenously hungry- but despite this, she seemed mostly calmed by the situation.

With the stretch of her neck, the large wolf shifted, her orange flanked ears pressing lightly against the back of her skull. It was more a relaxed gesture then subservient, although certainly it was implied. There was not even much anticipation upon her, for with the present group so small, it was likely that there would be plenty of food left by the time she got around, and then some. Feeding only got interesting when ten wolves were involved.

It was an intoxicating kill, to say the least. The more that was eaten from it, the more the smell permeated about the surrounding area, and she felt her whiskers puff to the direction of it. Hopefully this was a sign of good times to come- if such a large creature was felled from only one member.

Once Catalyst had started to tear into the luscious meat, for some reason his mate stopped. It might have been the way he was eating, what with the way that he looked like he would break anyone's neck if they came too close and the way that he just tore and tore without even so much as a glance in any other direction. When they had first met, he seemed a bit reluctant to see the animal being ripped apart limb by limb, but now he was practically doing that. How odd.

But she didn't want to be rude, so Kal forced her gaze away from him and back onto the carcass. She didn't, however, continue eating the way she had before. Instead she took smaller bites, and actually chewed them before she swallowed. It was almost as if watching someone else eat--a thing she hadn't much done before--made her lose her appetite.

So the gray alpha swallowed her last bite then moved away, as if finished. Her paws moved quickly but in small steps and soon she was over by Catalyst, her tongue working busily at the blood that had dared to stain her pretty face.

Looking over towards Kirra, she nodded once. It was the other's signal that she could eat. Of course, when there were more wolves, that signal wouldn't be there. Everyone else would probably just start eating in the proper order once the alphas had left. And either Catalyst or Kalia would stick around to make sure there were no disturbances.

So once the temporary signal had been passed, Kal plopped down next to her mate, panting so that she wouldn't get sick.

Catalyst leaned into the female beside him, rubbing his thick pelt against hers and sighing. He neither noticed, or rather cared that the female might have been sick because of him, instead he focused in on the thick bone before him. He peeled away at the ivory bone easily, and soon was left with a tiny section left; and being so full, he nudged it away with his nose and watched as Kalia gave her signal to Kirra. He smiled, wishing not to say a word, and rather allowed the female to take authority in her actions by resting his head on his forepaws and not strengthening her gesture with one of his own. He glanced about him, the scenery covered mostly by the large creature in the center of the group. His ears flicked back against his skull as he waited, preparing himself to watch and take note of how the bulky black female ate.

Kirra caught the signal, her ears sweeping forward and rising to a stand. She did so in a rather calm manner, despite her aching stomach, for now there was some sort of sacred observance to the food eating rituals which was followed. She kept herself to the back side of the beast while the alpha pair continued to work on the midsection. She kept herself waiting for a moment before puffing her whiskers forward and beginning to slowly work upon pulling at her portion.

For being such an unsteady wolf, she was quite good at removing the meat. In fact, the force of her jaws pushing alone slightly sent a tension through the carcass, but once she removed the piece she required the shaking stopped. Perhaps aware of this, she ate her portion in sections, swallowing the thick pieces of meat and fur until nothing was left, and returning to pull another portion off, rather then eating directly from the carcass. It was an eating tactic that probably wouldn't last once there were more, as she'd have to eat quickly to get what was left.
