Starting Area
The place that you have found yourself is little more than a large underground cavern with little more to offer than shadows dancing upon the walls.
Though the cavern is spacious and almost round in shape there are no signs of stone cutting along the walls or ceiling, only a few places where the floor has been smoothed and a single hole at the apex of the ceiling bored through the rock for ventilation. On the ground is a covering of sand and white dust throughout the majority of the chamber; in many places the stone is uneven or broken, creating a jutting outcropping of stone or a fissure in the ground. The cavern's walls and are uneven and natural but smooth to the touch, and the ceiling is dull and black, covered with soot from throughout the ages. From the look of it, it is likely that this cave was formed from some sort of geological phenomenon and whoever is using it either did not want or did not care to alter it beyond what was necessary.
At your back is the wall closest to you and one of the only things within the cavern that is not natural. Though it is continuous and unbroken with the rest of the cavern wall the stone in this section is flat and smooth, but still warped in many places. It was not cut or ground to be flat or it would not possess the wave-like texture covering the wall. The stone had obviously been melted in order to resurface the wall into something smoother - and the reason was written clearly across it in great, wide streaks. Drawn on the wall with thick strokes and bold runes was an elaborate spell that covered nearly the entire width of the wall. In many ways it resembled a map, drawn with many circles that each contained a unique sigil inscribed within and several claw-like markings etched along the edges. In others it resembled a door in that there was an archway at the center of it with indecipherable writing bordering it completely. The spell itself must have been ancient as the black paint it was drawn with was flaked and faded, though there are portions that seem to have been redrawn much more recently with newer paint, and one section in particular that seemed almost fresh in comparison to the others, having been traced over several times.
Ahead, in the center of the cavern a dais rises above the sand surrounding it; the base is as natural as everything else but it has obviously been cut and smoothed flat to craft a flat surface for the stone coffin that sits upon it. Standing on the dais there are also four torches mounted in braziers standing at the head and foot. The only reason that the interior of the cavern is illuminated at all is because of these torches; which are also the reason for the ash covering the cavern's ceiling and the shadows that danced upon the dimly lit walls. The torches themselves seem fresh, as if they have just been placed; there is also no ash beneath them at the base of the braziers though a dark stain is present on the stone regardless.
There is a single exit to the cavern, a tunnel on the opposite wall that leads up through complete darkness. Though the cavern itself is lighted by torches it does not seem that any have been placed in the tunnel ahead.
