I think there are a lot of things that are probably acceptable--though I don't really think goggles are. If you want to wear goggles on a daily basis that's your business, but you have to agree it's not within the normal realm of attire. Wearing goggles in a modern setting requires a certain disregard for the opinions of outsiders.
I tend to dress very modern in my down-time. I do gravitate towards button ups, layers, and lace, though. I evoke the victorian era by the cut of my clothes and by, like women of the victorian era, combining the masculine and the feminine. I like to wear a soft, flowy blouse under a structured blazer or even the very "in" military-inspired jackets and vests.
Some thing like these two items combined.

[x] But that's just me. Of course, this kind of thing is much less forgiving of different shapes and sizes that a corset and a full skirt.
