It was another late afternoon and Dorian was stuck yet again tagging along with his guardian, Knife, on one of his "business"deals. Normally Dorian didn't mind too much because he got to watch, but this time he was told to wait outside by the playground.

Luckily it was a cloudy day, so Dorian didn't have to worry much about the sun as he sat on the swings observing the neighborhood around him. The playground was completely abandoned except for himself. The streets and houses that surrounded him all seemed a bit run down and a little...grimy. The people all kept their heads down as they went forward to their destination. Dorian didn't know too much from experience but his gut told him that this was not the safest of places to be. He wasn't really worried though. Knife had told him if anyone gave him trouble to just mention Knife's name and they should leave him alone.

After swinging a little and not finding it overly much to his liking, Dorian decided to climb to the top of the jungle gym. Being careful not to get dirty or mess up his clothes he perched on one of the top bars. He peered around trying to find something interesting to do or someone to talk to. Seeing nothing and no one he began to sing quietly to himself.

Kaoni ran without glancing around him, his feet pummeling the ground, flying over distances as fast as he could. It was not that he was afraid of what might be imagined chasing him: on the contrary, he was giggling like mad, even as he was nearly out of breath with the exhilaration of his speed. He was, at least for the time, free. And until he was forcibly dragged back, he planned to do everything in his power to remain so.

His hair, relatively long now as it had been a while since it had been cut, and his Mother seemed to rather like long hair on men, had pulled from its ties and flew loose behind him. When he finally slid to a stop, it settled upon his shoulders and only slightly below them. He grinned and flipped his hair around a bit for fun before extracting a tie from his pocket and returning it to its usual pony-tail state.

He eyed the area where he'd slid to a halt with some satisfaction. Sure, it was not the nicest locale: in fact, it was likely one of the worst so close to his own home, but a playground was a playground, and that meant fun to be had. He'd get home when he got home, and as long as he was clean before Mother saw him, she'd never know he'd been romping in the lands of the Commoners and the Poor.

He began to wander over to the various structures, first tending toward this, then that, yet obviously with little urgency. His ears picked up a slight noise, a tune rather. And a pretty one at that. He smiled: singing meant other people, and other people in playgrounds meant other children that could be playmates. With some purpose now, he darted over to the jungle gym. "Hello!" he called happily, before he could even see the person.

After a while of perching and singing Dorian finally saw something of interest. A boy who looked to be about his age has just skidded to a halt in the playground and was looking rather pleased with himself. Dorian decided it was best to let the boy approach him if he wanted to and continued with his song.

Not too much later the boy stopped and seemed to be listening. Dorian continued his song and watched the boy dash over and shout his greeting. Finally Dorian stopped his song so he could reply to the cheerful boy. "Hello there." He smiled in return and started climbing a bit lower to meet him halfway so they could talk. "My name is Dorian." he offered. "Do you live around here?" Dorian was doubtful of that as he looked too well dressed for that, but one never knew.

"My name's Kaoni!" Kaoni responded with a wide grin. He'd as good as leaped a stretch of the way up the jungle gym, and climbed further, toward being level with the other youth. "Dorian's an interesting name...unusual!" His smile did not waver, and as always he said whatever came to mind without bothering as to whether or not it may be perceived as rude. Unlike Dorian, he saw nothing unusual about the clothing of his new companion, and hardly noted the state of their surroundings further than that it was, at least, different than that around his own home.

"Ah...Something like that. Somewhere over there..." He commented, gesturing loosely in the direction he'd come. As for specifics: that was not necessary. He'd find his way home easily enough, given enough time. "And you? I've not seen you around before..." Not that Kaoni had yet been this particular route of escape. But still, something about the child gave off the feeling of it being a new face.

Dorian watched with a small amount of amazement as Kaoni leaped and bounded his way up the jungle gym. He had so much energy it seemed. Dorian didn't consider himself sickly, however he still usually didn't have too much energy during the day so he wasn't as active physically as most kids seemed to be. "Nice to meet you Kaoni." he chuckled at the bit about his name being interesting. "Thanks, my... well Knife, he takes care of me, and he named me that. Apparently it's after a book character, but he says I shouldn't read it until I'm older because I won't understand all of it."

He glanced off in the direction where Kaoni pointed, and like he suspected it was towards the more wealthy part of town. He had a feeling that he had no idea what kind of neighborhood he was in. He shook his head causing his red hair to shift softly. "No I'm not from around here. Knife just brought me along while he talks with a friend of his." He swung his legs a bit and surveyed Kaoni thoughtfully.

Kaoni's grin grew impossibly wider as he settled next to Dorian, perching precariously on the jungle gym and holding on with only a few fingers to prevent falling should his balance fail. "A book character?" Kaoni's head tilted to the side, and with absolute certainty he could no he had not, and likely never would, read the book. "That's pretty cool! My name is just...Yup!" He seemed not to realize he'd offered no actual explanation of his name, as if the short and almost imperceptible pause was explanation enough. "But being named after a character seems fun!"

Kaoni shifted his balance a bit, never remaining still for any time at all if he could possibly avoid it. He almost slipped and fell, but he only giggled and righted himself again, climbing fully to the top of the jungle gym and balancing himself well enough to stand on top of it in a "I conquered this and I am superior to everyone...mwahaha" pose. He laughed again and spun around to face Dorian, surprisingly not falling considering how klutzy he tended toward being.

"It must be fun to be able to go to places with your parent! Mother won't take me anywhere fun..." His voice was the whining and whinging tone of a spoiled child. At the feel of Dorian's gaze on him, he crouched down, still balancing surprisingly well, and titled his head at the other boy, questioning him.

Dorian watched in amazement as the boy continuously shifted around the bars and managed to keep his balance and not fall. Concern spread over his features as Kaoni nearly did fall but sure enough the boy just righted himself again. "I guess it is kind of fun. Though I have no idea what the character is like. Knife says when I know what a 'homo-erotic theme' is, I can read it." he rolled his eyes saying this as Kaoni conquered the jungle gym.

Dorian found Kaoni's laugh to be infectious and let out a chuckle. Though he soon found himself being peered at questioningly. "I was just...watching you conquer things and not fall and stuff. I think I would have fallen by now. But I guess it is kind of fun to go places with Knife sometimes. Though most of the time there's just a bunch of adults and I have to be quiet and it's really no fun at all. Either that or I'm stuck sitting somewhere by myself like today." Dorian readjusted himself on the bars ever so carefully to peer at Kaoni better. This boy seemed so wild spirited in comparison to Dorian, he wasn't quite sure how to act.

Climbing carefully back down to sit level with Dorian once more, Kaoni tilted his head at the comment. “Homo-erotic?” he asked, not understanding in the slightest, “I wonder if that’s something you learn about when you’re older. Like where normal human babies come from or how to differentiate different brands of suits?”

“Normally, I would have fallen by now too,” Kaoni responded with a giggle, as if it were the most normal thing in the world to act so bravely when so klutzy, and tempted to spin around where he sat to further tempt fate. Never one to bother resisting inclinations, Kaoni did so and almost fell once again, laughing as he hung by only his legs and attempted to swing himself back up to get a grip on the bars. When he settled back by Dorian once more, he responded. “I’m usually surrounded by adults, except at the pocky shop. There’s lots of kids there!” He smiled happily, as if remembering. At Dorian’s last comment, Kaoni grinned widely, and in his smile there was a bit of a predatory gleam. Without warning, he pounced, wrapping his arms around Dorian in what might generally be called a “glomp” and calling out, “But you’re not alone now! I’m with you!” He did not seem to care that his pounce had set both of them dangerously off balance.
