Okay, so we weren't able to go to the battlefield just yet, but my friend Stephen randomly found an old barn many moons ago so we decided to check it out. I haven't listened to either of these just yet so let's all check em out and compare results (if there's even anything weird about them). 1st recording, on approach of random, old, creepy, small barn thing Voice001.wav2nd recording, Q&A inside of random, old, creepy, small barn thing Voice002.wavObviously the questions I asked were pretty horrible. So what questions should I have asked and how could I have better phrased the questions that I did ask? Note: I'll be investigating the Stones River Battlefield site and (possibly) memorial/cemetery on Sunday due to not getting to the battlefield in time before they closed.

Well, I didn't hear any voices or much of anything else to be honest.
Though on the first recording at or right after 2:01 it sounds like a breath or like a hush sound and it was when you guys weren't talking, so I don't know if the wind caught it (though it didn't sound like air was hitting it, I know what that sounds like) or it was just a background noise or whatever.
Also at 2:14 to around 2:20 it sounds like a train, but I didn't hear you guys comment on that so I'm not sure if you both heard it and were around train tracks and it's normal.
For the second recording 3:48 sounds like it could be a train again but it didn't sound the same as the earlier one that I guessed to be a train so I don't know. It goes in and out for a few seconds while you're talking.
That's about it though, sorry. :/ I did lol at the haunted shopping basket thing though. xD
As for questions:
You did good on the 'if there is anyone else here besides [insert who ever is there] please answer'
Same with the age question. You should ask for a name and if it's a male or female. Maybe ask how they died, or why they're still there.
If you know anything about the history maybe ask specific questions like "Did you work here?" or something.
I look forward to your future EVP sessions and findings. :3

awesome! yeah I didn't think there was going to be anything, I mean it was just that last ditch effort thing cause we got to the battlefield and I got my camera out (which had a dead battery due to me not checking something haha) and the park ranger was like "what you guys doing? we're closed."
that's when I asked him if he knew any haunted places off the top of his head. I'm hoping we can do this cemetery near one of the main hospitals cause my friend remembers seeing something as a little girl.
so when was the train sound? recording 1 or 2? cause I remember hearing it and saying something about it during one of them, but that's the only time I heard it unless I just ignored it after that initial time...hmmm...I'm gonna have to give them a listen sometime today after class and work.
and thanks for the comments! we never did get to provoking it, but like I had said in the recording, I didn't want to piss something off if it had been helpful haha.

It sounded like an obvious train in the first recording, I could hear the horn and the train on the tracks and it faded smoothly like it was getting farther away. I've lived by train tracks most of my life so it's a very familiar sound. In the second recording it sounds similar but you don't hear anything on the tracks, and it's just a horn sound but it didn't sound like it was coming closer or fading. It was going on while you guys were talking. Like "mmmm...(silence, except for you guys talking) mmmm....(more silence and talking) mmmm..." and so on. I had my volume all the way up and listened pretty close. If you don't pay attention you could miss it. That's why I listed the times so you'd know where to listen. :3 I just realized the way I typed things is kind of confusing so - First recording notes: Quote: Though on the first recording at or right after 2:01 it sounds like a breath or like a hush sound and it was when you guys weren't talking, so I don't know if the wind caught it (though it didn't sound like air was hitting it, I know what that sounds like) or it was just a background noise or whatever. Second recording notes: Quote: For the second recording 3:48 sounds like it could be a train again but it didn't sound the same as the earlier one that I guessed to be a train so I don't know. It goes in and out for a few seconds while you're talking. Oh! I almost forgot, great job and giving whatever might be there time to speak. I always hate it when people just go from question to question or talk after asking a question.

As a hint, to make it easier:
Write down some questions before you go. Memorize them or keep them on hand and just ask away.
Very good at giving them time to speak, but you did need to ask more questions. It doesn't seem like anything is there at all. Also if you're in a place that's said to be haunted and you aren't getting responses you might have to provoke a little to get something out.
and lol I just now heard the train.. well it doesn't sound like a train. usually trains caught on sound recorders are louder than that and don't hum like that hum does. I have no idea what that sound it, but it could be a train and I'm just an idiot.

The sound in the first recording obviously sounds like a train, but the sound in the second recording doesn't match the sound from the first. Not saying it's paranormal but I'd still like to know what it is.
I've lived near train tracks and it usually does what it did in the first recording where it fades in and fades out when it gets closer and farther away. This didn't seem to be getting louder or quieter and I didn't hear it on the tracks. It just starts and stops.

thanks for your input gang! I'll have to give that one a closer look...er...listen, as it were. I'll be hitting the battlefield on sunday as well as an old cemetery. I'm going to try to get into the civil war cemetery memorial but I'm not sure if I can or not. got an idea from my buddy Stephen that we might take my ouji board to that barn...course it's glow-in-the-dark mattel brand plastic but there are some people that won't even go near those. think it'll work just as well as an antique ouji?

Doesn't matter what kind it is, hell you could just doodle one on a piece of paper. Pendulums work too, and if you don't have one a simple ring on a necklace chain will work.
Some people don't like going near them because they believe it's like opening a door, and that you're opening yourself up to suggestion from any kind of spirit.
If you use them make sure you close the door after you've asked your questions. Just say thank you for their time, and if they answered your questions then thank them for that and say good bye and not to bother you any more. Some people even say out loud that they are now closing the door.

It's a possibility. That's usually where all the "Well after we used the board weird things started to happen...so we freaked out and burned it" stories come from. This is why they also tell you not to burn it, because it's like keeping the door open permanently.
That and it's just good manners to say please and thank you and goodbye. Some investigators believe that you get better results, or have a higher chance of getting the same spirit again if you're polite.

makes a lot of sense. I'll stress it then that all who are there must each thank the spirits and say goodbye.

Here's my latest recordings. I'll be going over them sometime tonight. Can't remember which one it is but there might be something in one of them. Anyone know any good audio editing programs for cleaning up the quality and maybe lowering the volume of my voice and such? Preferably something free or at least cheap lol. I swear, I couldn't stop laughing after you said "I'd enslave ALL you mother ******** on the battlefield. I didn't hear anything to sound like a voice or unusual sound. Maybe someone else will pick up something I don't. But I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary
I guess my net's being stupid but I can't listen to the other ones for some reason
