hey guys, I need to make a 10-question questionnaire for my classmates to better my speech about persuading them to be more susceptible to believing in ghosts.

here's what I've got so far:

1. Do you believe in the existence of ghosts/spirits?

2. Why/Why not?

3. Do you believe in an afterlife of some kind?

4. Is your decision based on
a. Religious Beliefs
b. Personal Experience
c. Scientific Perspective
d. Other

5. Have you ever had a paranormal experience?

6. Do you have any friends who believe in ghosts?

7. Have you ever watched a program which focused on the existence or the search for scientific evidence of ghosts?

thanks

I'm surprised someone hasn't replied to this yet.

1. Do you believe in the existence of ghosts/spirits? I believe it is possible.

2. Why/Why not? I lean towards believing based on my personal experiences, but I'm also a skeptic and I'd like science to be able to prove or disprove spirits in the end. Either way I'd be content.

3. Do you believe in an afterlife of some kind? I'd like to, but part of me believes that there isn't anything. In the end I don't know and I don't believe we'll find out for quite some time, if at all.

4. Is your decision based on
a. Religious Beliefs
b. Personal Experience
c. Scientific Perspective
d. Other

a. No
b. The reason I answered I'd like to, is because I've lost family and friends and it's nice to think that you'll be with them again at some point. I don't think that spirits or ghosts would always connect to an afterlife though.
c. Yes
d. The only other influence would be how I was raised, but I was raised to seek knowledge and experiences but to also keep my mind open. I don't necessarily believe because my family has had experiences, and to be honest if I hadn't had my own I would be a bigger skeptic. I like to believe in possibilities though.

5. Have you ever had a paranormal experience? A few times, at different times in the day and different places.

6. Do you have any friends who believe in ghosts? I do and they have different types of experiences that have led them to believe.

7. Have you ever watched a program which focused on the existence or the search for scientific evidence of ghosts? Quite a few, but I try not to let a lot of them influence my opinions because of the fact that the results in the shows are easy to manipulate and fake.

What I'd add: Maybe ask more about their background, or interest. Or maybe a few more questions about the personal experience.

I'd also ask if the media, meaning any movies, books, stories, and even the paranormal programs have any influence on their opinion.

I answered it, I don't know if it'll help you but I added more detail than most people would. If they answered a basic yes or no, or gave a short "I don't know" you wont be able to acquire much information.

If I think of anything else I'll add it.

Are you gathering this information for a statistic?

I think he wants three more questions xD He said it's a questionnaire to ask his classmates, so I'm guessing we don't answer this.

right, haha. thanks for answering though! It was really to get a better feel of our classmates and...there's more people in class that believe than I thought...mucho cool!

I answered it though because it gives him an idea about what kind of response he'll be getting, meaning are his questions effective enough to get the kind of response he's looking for.

And that's awesome. Was there a specific thing in all your results that most people said had made them believe?

personal experience, but nothing more specific than that. what really made me happy was them saying they were open to it, and for the most part those who don't believe...well, there's a reason why I handed them a copy of the questionnaire- I knew they didn't believe. however, some people did surprise me about them believing in ghosts, and for the various reasons they gave.

funny thing is though, the questionnaire wasn't set up for such thorough answers. those without letters were yes/no questions (on the paper) and the one with letters was multiple choice haha. thanks so much for answering though, very cool and definitely gave me some insight to what reasons may lie behind those yes's and no's.

How about:

* What in your opinion is the strongest evidence in favor of the paranormal?

* What is the strongest evidence against it?

* What evidence would need to be in place (what would it take) to provide 0 certainty in people that ghosts do or do not exist?

Yeah, when it comes to personal experiences or believing I think it's important to go into detail or ask detailed questions to weed out all the people who believe because they watched a movie or television program, or that their experience was something more than an easily explained natural event.

That's interesting though that personal experience was that common. I suspected maybe the most common would be that they knew someone who had a personal experience and they believed them or something.

maybe...but their answers have given me a feeling of...renewed vigor? or at least, it makes me feel like this speech is going to be much easier to give. oh and I only handed out 10 copies of the questionnaire, I'd say it was half-n-half with unpredicted answers from some, and predicted from others.

@Dog: good questions, kind of wished that I would've had those Tuesday night lol. however, I think I've got what I need. also, I'm not wanting to ensure 100% believability, as shown in my outline, all I really want to do is...infect their minds with the belief that it's at least possible. providing my own EVPs will certainly aid in this, but I don't want it to convince them totally. I want them to seek out their own evidence, find their own way to believing with absolute certainty that there is something just beyond their narrow fields of view. who knows what it could lead to...

I understand, it's easier when they are a little more open and curious about it, even just aware than if they flat out reject it or know nothing of it. Takes the pressure off having to present an idea a little bit.

That's a good goal, it really is. :3

Doh! DX Always late. Oh well. For another debate. smile My thought on the last question was more when will ghosts or other paranormal events be accepted universally as true or untrue. I like where you're coming from in your outline. I usually have to play the devils advocate to get people thinking about their beliefs.
