Here is where I want to post advice, tutorails and awesome videos of free-style, poi, glow-string and glow-sticking. I myself mostly glow string and am learning poi. I'm not amazing but i do pretty well I'd say.

my first piece of advice is to check out Glowsticking
it's full of tutorials to show you how to or new things to improve your current style

genxglow is pretty good aswell, i don't do poi, and i do freehand more regularly then i do sting
