In my Japanese Pokemon games I nickname them all the time. In some of my English games I nickname.
My favorite nickname I gave to a Pokemon was, "TV Dinner"
I just the names from things I see at the time, or possibly my favorite TV show characters.

I always nickname my pokemon. Sometimes it's just whatever pops into my head at the moment, sometimes it's after anime/manga/video game characters and stuff.
