Today was my first day of classes. Whoop.

I had to go to a very longwinded orientation process yesterday and the day before...and it ended up being not terribly valuable. The sessions we were sent to mostly consisted of a constant repeated list of the resources on campus.
DONT FORGET TO GO TO THE LEANRING ASSISTANCE CENTER YOU NINNY FIRST YEARS.
Over and over.

So today was the first really valuable day, even though I only had a single class. English lit since 1900, it was a real thriller.

But I get to go to psych first thing tomorrow, which I'm looking forward to a whole lot more. I love psych! <3

What other classes are you taking? ^.^
And how's your timetable? Do you have any days off?

I've got intro psych, biology and physics on m/w/f mornings.
I have a bio lab on tuesday from 2:30 to 4:30 and a physics lab wednesday from 2:30 to 5:00.

So I have monday, thursday and friday afternoons off but no full days.
And my thursday will always consist of a single english class, which is silly but rather unavoidable.

That doesn't sound too bad. You can't have too many contact hours. Do your lectures get audio streamed?

How's making new friends? >.> Or do you have a lot of friends from school there?

No, I highly doubt my university does anything quite that fancy.
They only created a wifi network on campus a year or two ago, they arent exactly with the times.

As far as friends, UoM is the choice for most of the people from my high school. The university is literally right down the road from the high school, with the next best option being UoW in teh scary land of downtown. Not exactly convenient for most people. So I know a lot of people already, and I have psychology with my best friend Stat.
I`m still kind of hoping I can meet some new people in some of my other classes, but Im a bit shy around people I don`t know.
We`ll see :3

Fair enough! I heard that before audio streaming, some people used to bring personal recorders and set them up at the front of the class. o.O

Take advantage of the first few weeks when people are more open to making friends. ^.^ Everyone's all excited and chatty. By third year too many people can't be bothered anymore. sad

Do you have tutorials, or something like that? It's easier to get to know people in tutes or labs than in lectures.

Yeah, I have labs and tutorials for biology and physics.
Its a lot smaller adn all that jazz, so it should be easier to meet people.
That said, we're assigned seats so if I end up near some nasties I'll be totally screwed.

I shall hope, I shall!

As far as the audio streaming thing, I discovered my biology class is done entirely by prerecorded video lecture, and you can rent the DVDs in the library anytime after the class has taken place. That the closest we got.

You're assigned seats for tutes? gonk Sounds like school. >.>

Oh well, I hope you're enjoying yourself. heart
And Arbs too, come to that. He hasn't popped in since he first started.

Yeah, it sounds completely stupid.
I like choosing my own place thank you, I am not a five year old who will start bickering with the kid next to me.

I havent had assigned seating since middle school.

Do you have participation marks? Maybe it's so they can remember your name. One of my tutors this semester made us write our names on the whiteboard, stand in front of it and they he took photos of us all. >.>

No, I think english is the only class with participation marks, and thats just because its a smaller class. My science classes are over 150 people, theres no way he would get all our names.
Then again, the tutes are in smaller groups, but theyre also taught by someone else entirely.

that may be my strong suit.

that and psych.

how can you hear the lecture, in such a big class? that was one reason why i dropped out of ordinary college.

And I, of course, am the math and science person. My sister knows bio better than I do (she's into organic chem and zoology now xP), but I definitely know physics.

My sci lectures tended to take attendance w/ a sign-in sheet that was passed around the hall. Cheat-able, and almost pointless.

Also, first days tend to be pointless, at least in my experience. Usually, it's, "Here's your syllabus. Now let's read it together, reaaaaaaaally sloooooooowly." xP

Chessie: I really don't know if Im any good at english or not, but I'll definitely talk to you if things dont turn out well xD
I breezed through high school english, but that was simply because we had provincial standards exams. They had nothing whatsoever to do with actually interpreting writing, it was more like a show of how good a bullshitter you were. It didnt matter what you said as long as you sounded smart saying it. It could be completely stupid.

Most of our classrooms have speakers in them, and the profs wear mics. The exception being english because we have less then 30 people per class and are in a typical highschool sized classroom.

Blake: I adored high school physics, and I'm kinda hoping I continue to love it through uni. That is of course assuming I can keep myself out of the crazy small stuff. I'm not very good at following the logic of something if I can't see it with my own eyes. Thats why I did terrible in our electricity stuff last year! Similarily, thats why I suck a** at chemistry.

Yeah, I could have walked into class, grabbed a syllabus and left, and I wouldnt have got any less out of it. Kindof a wasted day, really.
