So, I totally screwed up a roll during processing with a metal reel, and these are the ones I could sorta rescue. I don't think I will use them for anything, but the effect is sorta nice. It was shot on ISO 3200 film.

What do you think for what they're worth?

they kind of look like night vision.

I think to me, they have an eerie kinda vibe.
Like still shots from a horror film movie, the atmosphere of the scenery is somewhat sinister or foreboding.

And in the third photograph, the dark silhouettes all standing imposing in the foreground gives a slightly menacing feel.

So in that regard I think they're cool, because I like the feel of them not so much that I like the tech side.

They remind me of the works of Simon Marsden who does fantastic infra-red shots.
I once tried using an infra-red filter over the lense of my camera and it gave a similar kinda effect as your shots.

i was never dexterous enough to use metal reels XD.

I just used plastic (with which i still struggled) and didn't dilute the chemicals anyway XD.

Metal reels seriously make me sad. Plastic rocks. I wound it too tight, so some of the film wasn't hit by the chemicals. I didn't even think it was that tight. Plastic is really the way to go. arf.

I have never used metal reels.
Only plastic.

Is there any major differences?

*never heard of metal ones

Yeah, major differences indeed. The plastic takes up the reel after you insert it in enough. Then you twist it until its all in there. All the film is evenly spaced and what not, and you usually get a better result (in my opinion at least).

Metal reels have a clip in the center that you clip your film to. You sorta wrap it around the center, and its supposed to space it evenly for you. But, it you wrap it too tight, the film will touch each other and then no chemicals hit the film. =/ They're trickier, I don't usually like them. A professional photographer called me a puss once because I use plastic reels. rofl

I'm also thinking about shooting like this intentionally; shooting 2 stops under and over processing. I dunno.

Ooh. Thanks for the information. I didn't know any of that.

: ) " You learn something knew every day. "

Hmm. I don't know bout shooting 2 stops under and all...
I think you would get a better result experimenting with infra-red film or filters over your lense (filters over your lense is a slightly more hobo version of infra red film I reckon xD. )

Have you ever done that before? You can get some pretty cool effects : )

Metal Reels are the devil!.... >: [

and Teachers who force their students to use em are Satan Incarnate!

but anyways!

Personally I dig the first frame the best...it looks cool and the flash panned out nicely

Yes, metal reels are stupid.

I've never done infrared, but I know a friend who does. The film is so expensive though. Gah. There are a few digital cameras that can do infrared, I hear.

I'll fool around and bring results.
