Have you ever noticed when your on a bus or train somthing next to you begins moving While it apears as if you are?
I've notice a similar Illussion in American idiology. I keep hearing that Americans are leaving the republicans in droves because thier swinging to the far right. realy? I mean the last right wing republican president since the 20's was Reagan. quite simply Both the GOP and the Dem's moved left, thus leaving the illussion that those who stayed conservative were moving further right while in reality every one else was moving left.
This Is what I feel is the modern political spectrom that I made

Actually I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, I believe that both parties are perhaps swinging more towards their bases dividing the public opinion further. I was quite disheartened when I had heard Huckabee and other speakers at the GOP late last year. I noticed alot of rhetoric about how what we are doing is the right thing to do, also as of late I have noticed a change even in my own friends in terms of partisanship. Now friends of mine are predicting the same doom and gloom consequences of the Obama administration as some democrats I noticed were doing during the Bush administration. If anything I think the parties have forgotten that the whole point of elections is for the good of the country, and that the parties are getting farther apart.

Yes huckabee and others did go to the base, but the party went tith the centrist McCain and lost. the dems are going to their base(which is Liberal) and mainstream republicans followed them which is why I liked huckabee and ron paul who remained with their positions. Alot of people predicting doom and glloom with obama should be the same as those who did with bush, economicly they are both left leaning economicly. Who started the big spending(a liberal thing)?the republicans. whos is continueing it? Over the past hundred years the republicans have slowy shifted center left (with exceptions) while the dems have gone crazy left(also with a few exeptionsto be fair).

Well you say that's how it looks, but just looking at how Congress is breaking down from just a position stand point there are less moderates in there than ever before. More people are being polarized into either hardcore liberal or hardcore conservative.

well with the dems thats what I said they're being liberal but do you realy call the last 8 years of republicans truly conservative? look back even further, Teddy roosvelt as much I think an awesome president he was expandid goverment like crazy, a non-conservative move on his part. wendel wilkie the 1940 republican chalanger to FDR claimed in an add he was the liberal candidate. Both Bushes were moderate republicans. in 1994 when romney was challanging ted kennedy for his seat he presented himself as center left only recently becoming conservative. yes now the republican party seems more conservative it is only beacuase in the last two elections alot of the moderate republicans lost ther seats to bluedog democrates leaving only three of the old "rockafellar republicans" left one of wich(spector) just bailed.

You do realize using Roosevelt's don't really count since they are before the major political shifts in the 1960's, where what was liberal and what was conservative got changed?
