March 109

Emerging from her barracks, Jamie was met with the training grounds before her and the spring air. There were the feathers and the newly delivered equipment as choices she considered and had made her decision from to work with. She took several strides forward, but settled on the notion of there being no need to going further into the still empty grounds.

It was early when Jamie stepped out. Rainingwind had left even earlier than her though. The black wolf examined his rider’s mind for focus and found her thoughts within expectations. She considered her bonded to be away on a run or other training or in the vicinity in stealth. He noted the familiarity between them as he had in fact gone training and had just arrived out view by their barrack’s wall in practiced concealed presence.

White feathers.. In the season of snow: 40 seconds.. So: 30 seconds.. Goal—that ultimately there be no differentiation..

Releasing 8 feathers into the air, Jamie wasted no time as her form engaged with swift fluidity, catching feathers with smooth, efficient motions. One feather left and then a sudden gust of wind..

Dark red eyes analyzed before the wolf surged forward in hunting fashion after the sudden gust of wind blew past him, his vision taking in the attempt at the feather and strategically predicting a coming miss and quickly creating a tactic. Taking off from the ground, his catching her beneath him and intercepting her at her return earthbound would be akin to her just realizing she was at the last moments of her life if she did not react if she was in fact hunted. However, she past his test of intimidation as she shook off in a moment the fear that struck her, her bonded catching her eyes that caught him in her peripheral vision narrow as she executed the quick responding shift of her body at the sight of the predator and the closing proximity between them and feeling her brace herself from being attacked in mid-air at their contact. She caught on quickly to her bonded’s formulation as she turned her attention to the remaining feather, catching it with a practiced swipe of her hand as her earthbound direction was replaced with the upward direction of the pair’s meeting. They returned to the ground in their usual dual formidable manner, Jamie in her characteristic elegant riding form on Rainingwind. Twenty-one seconds. And so went these few moments of among the first of their day.

His rider was feeling playful; Rainingwind didn’t need to see the cheerfully pleased smile on her face to know this, of course and he made no move of his head to see it moreover—his demeanor as it normally was, as usual.

Shall we start duo training?

A few moments, the silence she’d come to know to be taken as his form of cold approval and thus, she proceeded in turn with the process of stuffing all but one of the eight feathers into her pockets. Two other feathers flew from her grasp amidst being changed in form of containment, but she had successfully re-grabbed one and then the other just before another gust of wind carried it farther from her reach.

Let’s practice catching the feather like this, she went on mischievously. Letting that remaining feather go, Jamie watched the floating form a second before her hand moved and took one of the tails of the headdress in her hands and flung it at the feather she had released, mimicking a previous incident where feathers stuck onto the item in an exercise.

Not completely immune to this disease his rider inflicts upon him, he retaliated with his own play just as Jamie picked out the feather from the striped tail. The black wolf rolled over, a move Jamie reacted to in the beginning years ago by jumping off to save herself from being crushed. But now, Jamie successfully maneuvered herself with the aid of the harness to avoid the grave predicament of death or injury by tremendous weight upon herself while keeping from being thrown off by the wolf, a move she thought up and practiced for years now since her bonded was convinced in allowing her to polish it and which he at some and at times similar occasions without notice tested her on.

The challenging gleam in her eyes though unseen as she was in riding form was translated through the link between them, but changed to one of curiosity when she realized she’d lost track of the feather. Aware of her search, he pinpointed the item in search of first and decidedly executed his next play.

With a swift, controlled motion, Rainingwind lifted himself onto his hind legs and swiped his paw in his first move to retrieve the feather while also intending to test his rider’s guard. Jamie proved to be adequately on alert as she reacted to his bonded’s movements by catching onto and steadying herself with the harness, again successfully avoiding being thrown off and thus passing the second test. She watched the wolf’s practiced motions with keen eyes, the black wolf having certainly progressed since his first encounter with a torn pillow’s feathers as a pup she observed. Stepping back, his lifted paw revealed the feather he had trapped onto the ground, lifting up with the air current his movement stirred. Moving with joined intention with his rider, Jamie was allotted better access to the feather by her bonded as she reached down with one hand while he crouched and caught the feather smoothly within her grasp. Rainingwind's rare wolfish grin had come and gone within these moments, if closely observed as a brief reaction to Jamie's wordless challenge to him; his amusement among his emotions had returned to concealment again.

On par overall, better than two weeks ago, not better than the earliest of last week’s times, surely better than the latest of last week’s times, slower than the latest of the two this week, but faster than the first of those two, though you have yet to exceed your best performance three weeks before today, Rainingwind commented; they were now going about critique between exercises.

You try to kill or the very least crush me and send me to the fixers way too much don’t you think? Jamie joked playfully with her bonded.

You’re speaking more and more nonsense, he retorted coolly his posture on all fours as he stood and conversed with his rider still having a maintained battle-ready feel, as fitting with his state that still presented grace.

And you did on par yourself, as expected, rest assured I have every intention of maintaining my efforts to keep up with you and I’ll in your likeness point out appropriate criticism upon catching any to be made regarding your upcoming performances, was her reply as she stroked the fur of the seemingly emotionless wolf with a steadiness to her own elegant form.

“Mommy,” a child’s voice called out with bright glee to her from an approaching trio, the owner of the voice walked toward her as quickly as his feet could carry him as he held on to his babysitter’s hand while his free hand grasped a napkin wrapped present. His playmate’s expression was set in a cutely determined fashion as she held her mother’s hand and endeavored to keep up with her and the boy Kuon who rushed toward his own. Jamie playfully ignored the grouchy vibes from her bonded due to the disrupted training since she knew her son and the wife and child of his patron's human were in an acceptable light to him.

“Sorry to interrupt, he made you a sandwich, and was so energetic about it, I’d have felt awful telling him he wouldn’t be able to give it to you right away when he asked,” the babysitter, Maya, explained as Jamie dismounted and with Rainingwind approached the three.

Jamie’s expression to Maya and her child Sophie was that of appreciation before she turned her attention to her son, lifting him into her arms.

Meanwhile, Rainingwind found himself returning Sophie’s stare, and her mother keeping watch of her daring child. These kids have nerve, interrupting and now this, his message was again treated with playful coolness by his rider outwardly.

“Dis is for you, mommy,” Kuon’s voice came again as he unwrapped and held up his creation.

“Thank you, Kuon,” Jamie replied cheerfully before she bit into the sandwich while holding it with him with her free hand.

Rainingwind approved of Kuon’s snack for his mother also because he didn’t fully grasp the amount of food she consumed during meals to be enough. Maybe it was because she was smaller in form, he’d considered, but still he thought eating more wouldn’t hurt. Helping himself to a rabbit as a snack is still bigger than the sort of meal she’d consume on a regular basis.

The snack wasn’t at all large, only a single slice folded in half to enclose a spread of jam, and Jamie had a habit of eating efficiently to maximize time for other things on her daily agenda so the sandwich was quickly finished. “I wan to ride, Ray-inwin,” Kuon brightly informed his mother of the notion before turning to his mother’s bonded and reaching out to him in habit since the days he hadn’t yet learned to walk.

Knowing Rainingwind is the side to make the decision in the end in response to Kuon’s gesture, she didn’t budge to bring her son closer to the wolf. He would decide if he’d allow the baby to touch him. It was Firespark who had allowed the baby’s touch without as much coolness toward the curious hands, but Jamie noticed a slight shift in him to more warmth and less coldness whether or not humoring the boy in these instances since his lover had passed.

His ears flicking at the familiar pronunciation of the boy of his name and seeing the known gesture, then the wolf placed his muzzle in one easy motion beneath the boy’s hand prepared for what did happen next. Kuon, to keep him from pulling way, grasped at his muzzle to no avail after giving the boy’s palms a careful nudge after allotting stillness before pulling away. Time for training.
