Could you really draft anyone but Stafford?
They still get Dallas' first round pick, cuz of the Roy Williams trade.
Considering they're coming off the worst year in NFL history, I think they need that big name #1 pick. Someone who'll actually generate some type of buzz... Its not like Detroit is gonna go from worst to first

Hmm.. Good question, but if I were the Lions I'd go either O-line, or defense, their are many great QB's coming into the draft next year and lets face it, the Lions are NOT going to pull a Atlanta Falcons just by drafting a QB, there are just way to many variables in that sorry team that need to be dealt with. I'd say go with an immediate help on defense with Curry. biggrin

They might just trade the pick away.

I don't give a damn about a quaterback. You don't win a god damned thing with a fancy quarterback. First you need a solid supporting cast, O-line, receivers, running backs, a defense. Detroit has great individual pieces, I would build a fundamentally solid football team. First get a average team then go for the big name players and quarterbacks. Look at the Bengals they have a top tier quarter and don't do anything, while the Vikings don't have one and they made the playoffs.

If I were Detriot, I'd go D. Last year when they went 0-16 they had an alright Offense. They were 27th in points per game, and not last. Their Passing game was alright, about 24th or 25th in the league. Their Defense was horrible last year, rating 32cd in the league in Points Allowed, Yards Allowed, and Rushing Yards aloud. If they had a Better Defense, maybe they would have allowed less points and their avg of 16 points per game would have lead them to about 5-11 or so, and atleast win a few games. (Or maybe its because they faced some pretty good teams)
They answer to their Problems is probably a better defense. Then Buff up their Offense.

If I were the GM of the Detroit Lions, I wouldn't take a QB in this Draft.
...They should sure up their offensive line with the #1 overall pick, and take Jason Smith (OT, Baylor). At #20, they should look for the best available LB or DT.
The Lions should finish with a pretty bad record this upcoming season. That ensures an early pick next year. They can get their QB then.

I agree with what you're saying, it is tough to really say cuz they need help pretty much everywhere.
I know they can't trade that #1 pick easily. Most teams don't wanna pay that kinda $$$ to an unproven rookie.
I don't think Detroit is gonna pull a Miami & go something like 11-5. I think they'll be lucky to go 5-11. I mean, outside of Calvin Johnson, who else do they have? How much $$$ that Johnson leaves as soon as he's able to

Now after the Draft, we can pretty much say that the Lions have a pretty good offense (minus the offensive line). But that's the problem. Their offensive line cannot carry a unit with such good skill position players. They are very solid at QB, RB, WR, and TE, with Matthew Stafford & Daunte Culpepper, Kevin Smith, Calvin Johnson, and Brandon Pettigrew. Yes, they need depth and an offensive line, but they had a pretty solid draft.

Something I was thinking about when talking with one of my friends was that I think Detroit still is thinking they have Barry Sanders back there who didnt need an O-Line to make the team good. So they believe that they do not need an O-Line to have an effective dangerous offense.
