((Hello all! This is my first post in this guild- hooray! Anyways, this is a short letter I made for an assignment in my Social Studies class. The only reason I'm putting it up here is to see if other people like it, since my family loves it and I need someone else's opinion. The only edit to it is that I put my Gaian name instead of my real name. Constructive criticism is loved and welcomed with opened arms.))

December 6, 1777

My dearest siblings,

If I were to say my stay in the army is pleasurable, I would be uttering the most outrageous lies! We have recently settled in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, and I must say, it is one of the most dreary, dismal places I have ever set eyes upon.

The cursed place is a plain of ice and snow, marred only by our destitute lodgings and ourselves. It is not uncommon to wake up to freshly fallen snow, and the sounds of shovels in the soil. With every breath, ice stings our lungs. Sickness rampages through our ranks. Few men have suitable attire; most must make due with little to no clothing. We are worn down to the bone from military drills ordered by Baron von Steuben, or as we like to call him, Baron von Stupid.

I am not certain that we, the Continental Army, will win. Our forces go up against a powerful enemy, and even with our new ally France, I believe we stand little chance of victory. That is, if we survive this cruel winter. However, what is there but to go on? Nothing. We must endure to fight for our people’s freedom. And yet, there are still men who desert this cause. Those yellow-bellied cowards ought to be arrested, along with those traitor Loyalists.

I know you must be questioning my sanity for staying in such a place, even if it is for such a glorious cause. If I am indeed insane, you may thank General George Washington. He is truly an inspiring figure, and most soldiers would lay down their lives for him. It is truly foolish that the Continental Congress, our supposed leaders, want to replace our general with some outsider.

Well, I must bid you goodbye, for I hear von Stupid calling.
