I bring to you, members of this guild, the tale of the newest party to emerge from Puerto Rico, the PPR (Puerto Ricans for Puerto Rico, when translated). They arrived at this election, in hopes to offer a message of change, a party with no political agenda, aside from the one that serves the best interest of Puerto Rico, whatever that may be. Their leader, Rogelio Figueroa, an Obama-esque figure (does help that they look alike) promising change, and freedom from political corruption.
He captured the imagination of the youth, and stormed his way into the political fray. Much like Obama again, he refused to run negative ads and only offered solutions. His voter stronghold was seen in the college vote and also, from the 'Populares", the people who belonged to dear old Mr. 24 counts of corruption, Anibal Acevedo-Vila's party but were against him personally He seemed that he might even scoop up to 20% of the vote, surpassing even the Independance party, who usually only recieves 3-5%.
But a week before election, tragedy struck for the poor Coqui party (Coqui is their symbol, a coqui is a tree frog). AAV bought 30 minutes on every local channel, explaining why he isn't guilty. I have to hand it to AAV, he's a master politician. The day after, his popularity sky-rocketed. The election now was a tight race between AAV and the opposing candidate Fortu~no (pronounced Four-tou-nyo, the tilde is supposed to be over the n, but I'm too lazy to input it). The results of the election, check for yourself, the page is in spanish, but all you need to know are the numbers. You can also sse what a coqui looks like, just look at the party seal, although coquis are brown, not orange. Election Results
