I found out about Steampunk a few days ago (I know, I'm way behind the times) but the fashion sort of reminds me of the movie Wild Wild West, and I think that will be the direction I take my outfits in. I'd like to have a more western flair since I like to incorporate that into my everyday fashion anyway. But I guess this will be my little thread for outfits and pictures and whatnot for things I'll be making for myself and my fiance.

But I do also have a question to pose to ya'll, does anyone else see Steampunk with a bit of Western influence like myself?

I've discovered a pretty informative How-To site with videos and they have one especially for Steampunk so here's the link to Threadbanger. And below I'll be posting progress on my many things that I will soon be making, just so ya'll can see and give advice and tips.

Bustle- So I've been working on making myself a bustle using some of the ideas from that site and so far it's worked out pretty well. And I did it for free, instead of buying plastic coated wire I used a few wire hangers and it turned out just as good as I hoped. All I need to do is cover it with an old slip and it will be done. Front Side Back
I've improved my bustle and made it a little more stable, so all I have left to do is cover it with fabric, but here's the skeleton Back Front

Hat- I found this really steamy hat at an antique store yesterday and thought I'd post some pics of it here. Front Another View

Belt- I found this weird belt at my grandma's house and I'm not quite sure what to do with it yet. I was thinking about taking it apart to make goggles, but I may just modify some welding goggles instead. Belt

Gloves and Earrings- These were also an antique store find, I think I'll just leave the gloves as they are, but the earrings will probably end up attached to my hat along with some feathers and cogs Gloves and Earrings

Watch, Flask, and Buttons- I found all of these things at an antique store also and I think I'll be splitting them up between my outfit and my boyfriend's. He'll definitely have the watch somewhere and the buttons too, but I think I'll make a leather garter and stick the flask in that for myself Stuff, stuff, stuff

Goggles-I found these for my fiance at Harbor Freight, a hardware store, and they were only five dollars which was a great deal. We'll be modifying them to get rid of the green plastic and elastic strap Front Front, Lids Up Side

Boots-These are my most favorite thing of everything I found, and for six dollars I got them for a steal Side Front

Skirts-I'm combining the petticoat and red skirt but I'll need to do some dying. I want the petticoat to be black and I'm darkening the skirt so it will be a deeper red. But I still want to find a black skirt to put over these two, then I'll do a ton of gathering and ruching to make it look a little better Petticoat skirt

Brooch Thing-This was sixty five cents and I felt compelled to get it, and I'm not sure what to do with it... Any help? Brooch Brooch Again

Various Bunch of Accessories-Just a lot of odds and ends that were in a bag I found, so they'll probably end up on me somehow Accessories

Fan Pendant-my favorite accessory that I found is this little fan that I know will end up being on a necklace, I can't wait to see how it turns out Pendant Fan

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas I'd love to hear them, and thanks fo stopping by this little wondrous thread

I found these goggles on the internet and I'll probably go pick up a pair tomorrow... quite possibly

I guess it depends on what flavor of Western Steampunk you want to go with. The most common that come to mind are the gunslinger and saloon girl, personally. Though my fast growing favorite is the hip holster for various looks whether it's holding a pistol/flintlock or large wrench... I'm working on acquiring a "bullet belt" that has large enough loops to hold some plastic test tubes.

A bullet belt with test tubes sounds sounds like such a good idea... I hope you can find one. Your best bet would be to look at gun shops or on the internet of course. Ones from this site would probably b ideal since they're for shotgun shells, but I love your idea 4laugh

I hit the antique store yesterday and got a ton of great finds for a whopping twenty one dollars. That's another great thing about Steampunk, I can get things really cheap... but I updated the second post with a ton of pictures including some things I'll be working on for my fiance

I suggest, for western punk, incorporating some Native American sort of stuff (feathers and beads, leather, etc), and perhaps a cowboy hat. Not your cute, girly hat, but an old beat up one that looks like it's seen a few good fights and some pretty bad once. Modify it however, add some lace or something.

By jove! Quite a belt, if you've not already used it I would recommend using that as is.
