So for those of you who don't know, I live in the South (USA). And, as it currently stands, there is a category 3 hurricane heading to batter the Gulf Coast--which is where I live. So if I'm unexpectantly absent for a long period of time... That's why. I may not have power or I may be on the road trying to evacuate. The only "good" thing from all this is it provides some pretty good inspiration. So this is some thoughts/feelings I have about this whole thing:
___________
You think you’re so tough with your wind and your rain. With your destruction and your pain. With your disaster and your disdain. Damn you, Hurricane!
Here we are again, waiting for the news, so confused; Not knowing which path to chose. Here we are again with these Hurricane blues
We look to the sky, hands up high asking God why and trying not to cry while saying our goodbyes and waiting desperately for replies.
So let your rains come! Let your winds blow! Let your waters flow! And your destruction rage And this war will just continue to wage.

I live on the Gulf side of Florida.
Remember Charley 2004? Direct hit to where I live. The center of the eye was 10 miles north of my house. Plus the 3 other Hurricanes that decided to batter Florida that same year.
This was really good piece, flowed very nicely and captured many feelings that accompany that of a Hurricane. Frustration, Aggravation, Acceptance, Moving on.
I liked it, but maybe it is because I can relate so well. Goodluck, stay safe.

Victim of Rita 2005! AND Katrina and Gustav hit on my birthdays. I hate and despise hurricanes. But I stayed for this one...and all there was, was rain. Like that's anything new!
Do you live in Texas? Because that would be like the coolest thing ever. For you.
Artful word and rhyme usage in this poem! >< But delete the just from the last line, I think. I liked it, though I couldn't relate. Hurricanes just piss me off. ALTHOUGH, it was pretty freaky when we were fleeing from Rita and I looked back and I could SEE it. o.o

Southern girl, too. Hurricanes piss me off. But I liked your poem. Very nicely done. The first stanza was the best.
(Seriously, GUSTAV? What the hell-oh jello were they thinking?)

Thanks for all the comments, y'all!
@Tak-Jak: Yes, I tried to show a transition in the stanzas. Because thats how I felt.
@Kirby: No wai!!! I was a Rita victim as well. It hit my hometown (Lake Charles, LA). And this one, Gustav, pushed me out of my current town where I'm attending college (Baton Rouge).
So, no, I don't live in Texas. But I am here now, fleeing from Gustav. School doesn't resume until Monday so I won't be leaving for a few days.
@Voxxx: I know, right! And now there's one called "Ike"... Seriously? Is it going to beat the coastline? XP

@.o OMG I totally evacuated to Lake Charles!!! Course, we didn't stay for long...we went to, um....Oklahoma. :/ I still don't get why.
Gustav was supposed to hit us. We evacuated and everything. But then we got like...a breeze and a tiny bit of rain. LAME.

I wonder who decides the names for these. Do they just like to pick the lame ones to make us mad?
"GUSTAV destroys coastline" just doesn't have the potential of an eviler-sounding name. It's like the name "Cecil" or "Matthias" or something like that. Just can't take it seriously.

There is a random name generator. They recycle names over and over unless the hurricane in questions is a major one.
Like Hurricane Donna will never rise again after draining the Caloosahattchee River in 1960 (the river is a major one leading to the Gulf of Mexico from Florida's Lake Okeechobee --- google!)
Or Charley.. or Rita.. Katrina.. and probably not Ike again too.
Gustav only happened because the Russians were mad about losing so bad at the Olympics. xd
