You heard right, buddy. This is a contest. A contest of epic proportions.
Here's the deal: When i'm at work, i get extremely bored and want to be anywhere but where i am. So the challenge here is writing oriented and travel inspired.

The Challenge: Write a descriptive paragraph or two conveying emotions, feelings, temperatures, etc. of different places. There will be different themes each month.

The Prize: The prize for each month may vary depending on my gold count and whatever fabulous items i have to offer. This month: 10k to the best paragraph.

The Deadline: This will be a monthly contest (at least until i get bored of it) You'll have from the first to the last of the month to come up with your creations and dazzle me with your vocabulary.

Basically, you'll be constructing a very descriptive paragraph about somewhere that makes the reader feel that they're actually there, experiencing the warmth or the cold or a certain smell or feeling the place gives you. I'll read through them and the one that completes this goal the best will be the winner.

This month's theme: Open. (For the first month you can write about anything just to get the feel for it.)

Deadline: September 30

@w@ Ooo, Ash might use this to write out some angst or whatever emotions she feels, although her writing still needs improvement. Here's a quick one, though, before I go and work on some other things. Thumbs up goes to Toastie-chan for the glorious idea, though!

The smell of salt flowed lightly through the misty ocean breeze, a slight shiver sending a chill down my spine as my bare arms met the cool air, causing tiny goosebumps and the hairs on my arms to rise at the unexpected contact. As the driver of the vehicle and myself were in continued down the highway to our location, my hues met with the glimmering sapphire waters of the ocean, and I was positive I saw dolphins in the endless ripples of the salty abyss our vehicle passed by; animals or not, however, the sight of the ocean blue was enough to leave me breathless. My chest tightened as my sight lingered on the waves of azure before me, growing smaller as we continued to pass it by, my heart ached and longed to see it for even just a moment longer. As soon as my view of the beautiful ocean was soon replaced by the sight of endless goldenrod hills and cracked asphalt road, I hoped one day I would be able to see the glimmering cobalt waters once again.

you love me...
Sitting with my back against the closet
door
holding on to your old shoes
such a useless lifeline
staring into stale air
thinking thoughts
which used to make me cry

so heavy
so ugly
so alive

a test in school i didn't study for
stalling for more time
to worry
I don't believe in love
yet i love you

words to say when your dog dies

umm. okay. i forgot what i wanted to write about.
sweatdrop
It has feelings though right?

Your excitement begins to mount, as the large dark red Dodge Durango carries you higher and higher into the mountains and wilderness-- houses becoming more and more sparse, seperated and protected by large pine trees that tower above the dark road that winds itself through two small towns that appear one right after the other. The air seems to change, it smells cleaner, fresher, somehow, and the surroundings become more crisp-- the dark green of the trees blend together on one side of the highway, stretching to meet the sparkingly sky that extends, as if for forever, above everything. Puffy white clouds dot the expanse of endless blue, and on the other side of the highway, tall cliffs stretch up, becoming part of a mountain. They are made of rocks so large they could crush your car in one swift movement, if the ratted old nets hung on the sides of their faces to help contain a rock slide ever gave way. Turning your head towards them, you peer past your older brother, who has his head topped with dark hair bent down towards the Nintendo DS in his lap, a silver dinosaur that he carries with him everywhere, a cord snaking from the device to a pair of headphones that have seemed to have grown on his head, for he never takes them off. He doesn't notice the sharp cliffs of rock or the rust colored streaks that ran across them, as well as the foliage that grew out of seemingly no where, dotting the rocks with green.

Turning your head to the other side, you peer past your younger brother, who is desperately trying to squeeze out a drawing of a transforming robot without the bumps of the road jostling his hand. The tall trees give way to a view of sparkling waters and the cliffs on the other side of the resevoir that match the ones meet the road and then drop off into nothingness. You are protected from careening off the edge from first another lane of traffic, which travels in the opposite way, and then a tall stone barier, which many tourists lean against to snap photos the picturesque scene and to engineer memories. Having seen your fill of the scenery, you turn back to the front, adjusting your legs. You have been squished in the small middle seat for nearly two hours, your brothers on both sides acting like bookends. Your feet are stiff, and try to find a comfortable place amongst all the books and other items your brothers choose to crowd your already small space with-- they always bring books, duct tape, drawing pads, gameboys, chargers, slingshots, and many other assorted "necessities" that rarely get used on your weekends visits to the family cabin. In front of you, your father steers the car around the various curves of the road, taking a break from his work clothes to don a t-shirt, tan shorts and his signature floppy hat with the sides pinned up by the drawstring. To his right sits your mother, who also has on summer clothes, who toils at crocheting a baby bootie for a friend of hers who is expecting. Behind you, the back of the car is filled to the brim with suitcases, food, the cooler, fishing poles, and random junk that has been flung back there in the course of the voyage.

After driving on this mountain road for almost half of an hour, your father turns left and crosses a small bridge, beginning your quick ascent to the one of your favorite places in the world-- Cooper Lake and the cabin that your Grandfather had built on it's banks. You smile to yourself and eagerly watch the trees fly past on this old logging road, counting down the minutes until you get there.

Iknorite? I spilled blood and sweat coming up with that.
Now, you striked out a part, so we'll just ignore that.

Oh, oh, I have one!! blaugh Wrote this when we had this storm pass by and I had to turn the comp off. So I sat on the sofa and watched it.

Quote:
Real lightning never looks the way it does in those science class documentaries. You never really see a clear defined bolt, but more-so the flash it gives off. The whole flash. It lights up the trees shaking in the wind, rain torrents bouncing up from the street and flowing in the breeze to look like ocean waves, the houses on the other side of the street that you almost forgot were there while watching nature at work. It lights up everything, all the way from the sky to the glass in front of your face, everything in front of your eyes. For just the smallest fraction of a second. But in that fraction of a second, for a moment, your eyes are tricked to think its day.
