Okay, so since I'm not very science-knowledge-endowed, can someone tell me exactly what this is for?
Okay, okay...
The REAL reason that they're doing this... is that they're trying to determine how the universe formed during it's infancy, involving the "Big Bang" and all that schnazz... and they're searching for an sub-subatomic particle called the "Higgs Boson" to validate some physics theories...
And, that "Higgs Boson" is a really interesting tidbit, if you read about it...
And, thought it *could* cause "OH GOD WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!", that's about as likely as you spontaneously disappearing in one spot and reappearing in another spot (which, according to Quantum Mechanics, is TECHNICALLY possible, but will never happen realistically), meaning... not gonna happen...
Just, some Big-brained Scientists had NO idea of how to speak to the public properly... and now a bunch of people think we're all gonna die.
Oh, also, IF and that's a big IF, this thing makes a black hole, it will most likely (99.9999999999999999999999999999999% +/- a miniscule difference) be no different than all of the other undetectable "miniature" black holes that cruise though the planet all the time... and though us...
No, that's not a joke... there are mini black holes that are just zipping by us... and we don't even notice...
THAT'S the most probable improbable worst-case scenario...

But, it IS fun to say that "It eats planets" ^_^
so... is it just me or does the magnet in that tunnel remind anyone else of the last terminator movie that came out? 3 or something? Where they're escaping the girl's father's lab and they melt the super awesome robot to the hugeass magnet to get away.
