Okay so I had this really fun French Horn solo for the last concert of the year, and I didn't even get to play it. The concert just HAD to be on the day that my grandparents were having their 50th, and my mom wanted NO ONE to make ANY plans at all. So what does my band teacher do? He give the solo to the first chair baritone instead of the french horn player sitting next to me. It was TORTURE! Not only because he was playing it, but because it was AWFUL! Just because they sound the same, doesn't mean it should replace a french horn!!! I think the baritone is cool and all, don't get me wrong, but why replace the instrument if there are other willing players?

I've always been first chair French Horn, and I can play really well.
Well, this past year, though, they had a tough solo for French Horn, and the girl playing as first chair was REALLY bad at it, and butchered it, and said that they'd do it as a soli. well, none of them could play it, so it was given to my friend who is 1st chair baritone.
That figures.
I could play it, anf Mr. K even said that, if I was dedicated enough, I could bring a horn on, because my section didn't play for the solo.
We had it worked out, and that 1st chair guy (not using real names, and I was 2nd chair Trombone, btw) would hold my trombone while I played horn, but I got a cold sore the size of KANSAS a week or two before the concert, so that's how THAT went.
