I have a problem. I shave ( parts but not all of it ) . How do I get rid of ingrown hairs and tiny pimples? I would like to be smooth. Any cream I could use?

A dermintologist could help you out with the skin part and for the shaving part, maybe as well.

Maybe? Or do you know for sure?

I could always ask but at the moment I don't want to have to pay to go to the doctor if i can take care of it myself.

I am not sure of any way to guarantee a smooth and healthy shave in the pubic area. It's a sensitive area, so shaving will often result in irritation, redness, pimples, broken skin, etc. Broken skin and pimples mean infection, and infections are not good things to have down there. That is why most doctors do not recommend shaving down there.

Staying all natural or trimming are by far your safest and healthiest options. If you really feel the need to be bare or partially bare though, you can try waxing, as it might at least keep you from getting razor burn.

Thanks for the advice. I just wanted to know if it was common or if I'm doing something wrong. Do I have to Wax or can I use Nair?

I have never waxed but ever since I say Miss Congeniality, waxing down their scares me a bit. Some people say Nair burns them, I have never used Nair, my hair on my legs come in so slowly and so fine I really have to use for either.

Waxing does hurt for most people.

Never use Nair around your a**s or genitals; there is a warning on the bottle about that.

I figured. Almost everyone talks about burning and peeling. That would not be a nice feeling on your happy bits burning_eyes

Some tips:

If your hair is long, scissor it first.

Avoid shaving when you first get up after sleeping. Body fluids make the skin more puffy. After 20 to 30 minutes the skin becomes more taut and the hair shaft more exposed.

Soak in warm water before shaving, for at least three minutes. This is especially important for coarser pubic and armpit hair. Warm water softens the hair, opens the hair follicle and relaxes the skin. Wet hair reduces wear on the blade and stands up easier.

Apply lotion to all areas and let it sit for at least four minutes (this helps soften the hair more, locks moisture into the hair, helps keep the hair erect, reduces friction and conditions the skin); then shave the legs first, then the underarms, then the pubic area.

Use a shaving cream, gel, foam or lotion, not soap. The more foam/body to the product, the less likely you are to get razor burn. However, be sure this doesn't get near your openings, it can cause yeast infections and other nasties.

Use a higher quality razor. You will pay for cheap razors with nicks, burns, and bumps. Those multiple blades and cushioned heads really do help.

Pull the skin taut before shaving with your other hand.

Do not run the razor over any area more than once.

Rinse the blade clear of hair after every swipe.

Shave slowly.

Replace your razor often -- do not use it once you start to have to apply pressure. Dull blades pull hair and increase the risk of ingrown hairs.

Alternatives:

# Waxing -- It can hurt, particularly when one is new to the method, but leaves the area pretty smooth, and lasts one to six weeks, depending on the person.
# Depilatory Creams and Lotions -- Leaves area smooth and doesn't stimulate hair follicles. I used to use Nair but it took far longer than the recommended amount of time to remove hair to my liking and was expensive. Lasts about a week.
# Electrolysis -- Usually done by a professional, but there are home systems as well. It may take a long time, usually a minimum of six treatments before the job is done. It is probably the most popular choice for permanent hair removal. One hair is removed at a time.
# Epilators -- A machine that yanks the hair out, roots and all. Lasts one to six weeks.
# Lasers -- Extremely fast, and usually less pain than with electrolysis. Effects are long lasting and may be permanent after several sessions. One must avoid sunlight while healing.

Do not use depilatory creams, such as Nair, around the public region!
