Okay, this is supposed to be about school-wise labels. (Cereal just sounded interesting, so I put it there.)

I'm called "emo." While I admit I listen to the genre "emo," write sad poetry, and dress the part, I don't cut myself or consider suicide, which is supposed to be an emo trait. Which is rude, by the way. I've seen prep cutters.

Now, I've been a victim to many a cruel joke. I was placed in the corner of the room, and everyone started to laugh, saying "the emo's in her corner." Another time, there was a plastic knife with red frosting found under my desk. The people at my table looked at me and laughed. And yet another time, we were all talking about suicide. People looked at me. I HAVE NEVER CONSIDERED SUICIDE!! Everyone says they call me emo because I act so tired. Which makes no sense to me.

So I'm just wondering...have you been called labels (which make no sense?) Have you ever called someone else something that they're not? And what the hell should I do about the jerk-offs in my class?!

luckily through years (this is from 1st grade) I've kinda also understood people, and thus built a network of relationships throughout the school, I can hang out with the "jocks" on day then waltz on over to the "goths" will little awkwardness, and this was over course through years gaining respect from my peers, by generally acting good, if I get mad people know something is wrong, in fact a friend of mine today said that she's never heard me drop the F bomb, so i did (very quietly) for her today and she was very happy.

Now I didn't say all that to say that I'm awesome, but that it allows me to see theres stereotypes easily with an unbiased standing, and I've started to figure out why people do it, people like a conformity (as much as people won't admit they conform) so when a person sticks out even the slightest they decide it's wrong and basically exile them creating stupider and stupider stereotypes, thus forcing that person to create stereotypes against them

As for suggestions well I say don't change your personality but instead try not to judge them as it brings you down to their level, when they see that you don't care about the stereotype, they'll try harder, but if you keep staying low they will wear out, and they will stop bothering you, just keep your head up always no matter what names you're called

I was called a lair. I've always been picked on, mostly physically, because I was always different, and distant. I did extremely well in school, but I never talked to the other kids. The reason I was called a lair was because I saw(and still see) weird crap.
Now I'm called Freaky mutant. I'm un-humanly possible. Nice, huh? >.>

I'm not sure what exactly people label me as.I am a nerd I guess, but I'm not.I'm only a nerd in certain areas.English, the occult/paranomal,science.Math I am complete crap at.I don't think people really concentrate to much on me or my croup of friends,we are just sort of there. No one ever bothers us and we give help if anyone needs it.

I think I was always somewhere between geek and goth, LOL. I've always been nerdy with computers and with anime... but never in an anti-social way (despite being anti-social myself... it's weird! sweatdrop ) because all the nerdy and geeky anime and computer people were very outgoing and had lots of events and parties going on... I guess in that respect, considering we were also the AP students and such, we were in the preppy section.

But at the same time, my dress fashion back in high school was always goth. Dark, contrasting colours with excessive lace, velvet and satin. I used to wear corsets to school and always went in black, LOL.

Nowadays... well. I guess more prep/geek? I still love the gothic fashion, but I'm more into gothic lolita now... and that eventually evolved into sweet lolita. So still lots of high class fabrics and lace... just in a more cute and sweet little girl fashion rather than dark and mysterious.

I've been called emo before as well. and it was the worst in 8th grade [i'm a 9th grader currently soon to be 15] when the Don Imus scandal happened, my friends and i were referred to as "nappy heady emos" but who gives a crap. People label each other just because they don't know who they are or are afraid to admit a few things about themselves. I have never tried to be anyone other than myself. and you shouldn't be either because understanding yourself can only make you stronger and be true to your self when the going gets tough. People always and still ride me for my personality and who i am. I'm bi-racial [black and latin american] and yet i listen to rock/80s and 70s disco and i don't speak slang. I've been dubbed "white girl" even though i am so far from white as possible but i couldn't care less. And Lastly after this long rant, there is nothing you can do to make the people bothering you change, you just have to learn to ignore it even laugh about it [in eight grade my friends and i gave each other emo nicknames mine was "mellow emo" or something like that] and when people see you don't care they may quit bothering you. ♥good luck♥

i first thought this would be about cereal.. but its not...

second of all I went to the pol. I did not answer this. I don't feel like I fit with one of them. i finished school in 2005. I think that was when "emo" was starting to come out and be more popular.

Yes EMO is a term used for people who cut them selfs but there are emos out there who don't cut them out but like to put out their emotions and like that music.

I do not know what type of person I was. I think we were the left overs. LOL. In saying that we were a combination of people. there was a heap of us who hung together, some of us were great friends others were just acquantices. but in saying that we had the most people us leftovers. Sure some of us fitted into a category, we had sortof emos, nerds, geeks and the others.

I do not like having a label.

The label i get at work is generation y.. WHICH I HATE BEING CALLED A GEN Yer. I HATE IT I HATE IT.. ITS WORSE THEN THE SCHOOL LABELS.

this is somehting i found on wikipedia.

Facebook, MySpace, SMS and other instant communication technologies may explain Generation Y's reputation for being peer oriented and for seeking instant gratification. Generation Y, like other generations, is shaped by the events, leaders, developments and trends of its time.

so that is that.
