Once upon a time the prime time to make gold was right after an item was released. One could make three to five thousand more on an MC just by selling it right off. But now times have changed.
Take the Alrunas rose for example. First evolution it was around 55k. Once the second one occurred it got up to 70k. But now it's well over 100k, which is odd when considering normal economic trends. Even MCs tend to hit their peak the next day. Evolution items also tend to go down after their final form (mainly because of disappointment but also due to the lack of surprise)
What economics trends have you noticed with the Evolution items? If you had to sell an Evolution item before it evolved again, when would be the best time to do so?: right away, toward the middle, or right before the next one?
And finally, say you have a 5 stage item. What is the best stage to sell at?

I've seen differences between the evolution items of when the optimal time to sell them is. So far I can't say for sure when the best time to sell them is, but for the Hermes' Moon I say it sell for ~400k by the time the fourth gen came out. And yet for the Orindae (it now has a 4th gen) it's worth has dropped significantly from it's original market price of ~55k to ~35k.
I'd say it'd be best for a full answer to your question to be in tiers.
I'd advise a division by GaiaCash similar to:
000-299 300-499 500-699 700-999
[looks at the question again] oh...*o*
I still wouldn't know... because I doubt if the general public would know if it is a five gen evolution item. I'd guess soon after it comes out or just after it's final stage is revealed. [This guess is based off of a view of the general public's buzz over such items.]

I dunno if it's just me, but I think Evo items are worth more right when their most recent form is revealed. xD; I was stalking Spores for a while (which might not be a good basis for this, seeing as how their second gen is actually worth more than the first gen D: and that's kinna different from the others...) and I watched it for a bit, and the price dropped right around the middle.
I think it's starting to pick up again tho. D:

If there's high speculation about the final stage being released the next thursday, I'd go with selling the item that wednesday. It'd spike, then wait till 2nd gen evolves to it. The prices of both will equal out [somewhat] and you can buy back the evomonz if ya want.

In general, each new generation is worth less than the one before it, and the price seems to go in relatively even increments... except for the first gen. The price difference between the first and second gen seems to be much greater than the rest. I suspect this has something to do with first-gen items being something of a status symbol. Once the others hit maturity, though, they seem to even out a bit, but the first gen will still be worth the most.
As for generations that are not yet fully evolved, it seems that some are more desirable than others, in terms of the difference between prices. I suspect that has to do with which poses are more desirable by the public as a whole.
