So...

My younger sister is bulimic. I found out a couple of months ago and my mum found her shortly after that. I was reading up on it and she fits BOTH sub-types - she binges and purges, AND does excessive exercise. She has a totally messed up body image, eating habits and I wish I could help her. I try to just be a good big sister but I'm moving out in about six months (assuming my mother doesn't raise a huge fuss about it). And I'll only be back some weekends.

Can anyone help me out?

I think the most important thing is that she knows and admits she is sick. There are clinics and treatments for bullimia if I'm not mistaking. All I know is that this could be hard for her. Her body gets used to have a minimum aboumt of what it needs, so it produces what it needs (as long as it can). So basiclly she wont be able to start eating normally as any other person. Stay arround to see some people's opinion or help. Sorry I can't help more.

She doesn't see it as a problem, though. Her words: "I could stop any time I want, but I don't want to stop."

anyone with an eating disorder has no control over their feelings about food
it's awful gonk
but I agree that the best thing is to get her to admit that she has a problem
then you have to try to get her to want to recover, which can be very difficult
I think the best thing that you can do is to be supportive and try to understand how she feels
It's hard and I suggest that she go see a counselor and a nutritionist
good luck ~.^
