What rites of passage have you undergone?
Baptism, Marriage, Sisterhood, Balval Suno (establishing my position within my family), I formally observed Shul Bresh Saydiba (a ritual honoring of those who have passed)... oh yeah, and birth.

The bulk of them are natural expressions of human interaction and family relations. Baptism was likely a purification rite that was merged with Christian traditions during slavery.

Couple reasons- one, I like a good party. Second, I like to honor my family and those I love- sometimes this is done through celebration. Third, it adds to family luck.

Well, birth, marriage, death, some birthdays and the entitlements that go with them are honored- such as a 21st and 18th Birthdays.
