Here's the beginning...
Wutai was a nice place to live. It was sunny and warm, and exuded an old feel. It was always good to take the three hour hike down the coast just to see the oceans where he could barely catch a glimpse of the Gold Saucer on one of the Continents.
Nick Strife was 22, and his godmother was dying. His father, Cloud Strife, the one who had saved the Planet 25 years earlier, had disappeared when Nick was four. Cloud had said something about "the spots" and left his godmother a map of the Planet and a strange piece of paper to give to him.
Around this time, the others had also left. His true mother Tifa had gone with Cloud, as had all the others. Yuffie, Cid, Barret and Cait Sith and Red XIII had all left. The strange Vincent, another person who had helped Cloud, had gone off on his own after Cloud had destroyed Sephiroth and saved the planet from Meteor.
Nick, and all his friends -- children of the others, even Vincent had left behind a child, stayed on Wutai with good people like Yuffie's father and Barret's adopted daughter Marlene. They had grown up together and played together, hanging out in Yuffie's house or on the Five God Statue. Later, they had left the town and gone out fighting, and Nick had learned how to pilot the Highwind and the submarine at fifteen, but they had not been allowed off Wutai.
Nick was standing outside the town now, on the deck of the Highwind. He looked at this map, it was much different from the others he had seen. There was an island marked "Round Island" in the northeast corner, and one marked "Cactus Island" in the southwest. Also marked were five strange spots - one in the middle of the ocean between the two large continents, one in the ocean off Junon, one near the Gold Saucer in the Corel Desert, one in Cosmo Canyon, and one in the Dead Land that surrounded the ruined city of Midgar. Also marked was the Northern Crater, the Chocobo Farm where his mother had told him to go first, and Nibelheim. The other piece of paper had the names of five stones, each in the same color as one spot on the map, and two incantations for each -- one marked with "Summon" and one marked with "Control".
Nick put the map in his pocket, he saw the others coming. There was Sara, the daughter of Vincent in the lead, wearing armor similar to the black chestplate and backplate with shoulder and leg guards and a black cape, only in red, and had the Death Penalty at her side. Eric, Cid's son, carried Cid's old Venus Gospel and was wearing the pilot's suit he had gotten from Cid. Dyne, Barret's son, had a machine gun slung over his back and wore simply a brown vest and black pants. Finally, the fiery Alnah, who wore the same clothing as Aeris had once worn, and carried Aeris' staff -- her origin was unknown, she had arrived a few years ago wearing those clothes and carrying the Princess Guard. Out of all of them, only Nick had two weapons - at his side was the Masamune longsword, which Sephiroth had used. Nick had trained with it in his free-for all style, and had become well versed and weilding with oen hand or two. He also carried the heavy Ultima Weapon that had been Cloud's on his back, which he used more frequently.
After they were all in the Operation Room inside, Nick addressed them. "It looks like you're all here, like I told you. Today is the day we leave Wutai, possibly for good. I have been given a map of the Planet, with special places marked and two new islands, and another piece of paper, with stone names and what looks like incantations on it. I have been told by my mother that there are chocobos waiting for our use at the Chocobo Farm by the Midgar Swamps, as the Highwind can only land on grass or in North Cave. Are there any questions?"
Eric posed a very good question. "What are we doing, exactly?"
Nick replied to this with "I do not know. All I know is that we have to get the Chocobos, then go to these points on the map." Nick pointed at the points, as he had projected the map onto a wall. "Then, I don't know what we do. We should find something, it says on the back, if we dig on land or simply use the submarine which is docked at Junon to go underwater and find the underwater points. Our good friend Sara has made a locator that will allow us to find these points. There is a handheld receiver to track remotely, outside the Highwind. All that said, I believe that wraps this up. Everyone to the cockpit, we move out as soon as possible."
Nick and Sara were the last to leave; Sara helped Nick pack everything up. When Nick was looking at the map in his hand, Sara put a hand on his shoulder. "Are you sure you know what we're doing?" she asked.
Nick looked up and said "I don't know any more than what's said here...come on, let's not keep everyone waiting."
Before starting the ship, Nick looked at the town one last time and called everyone over. "This may be our last look at Wutai for a long while, so I guess we should say goodbye now."
After they had all taken one last, long look, Nick went to the pilot's chair and started up the ship. "With the rocket power we have, it should be about three hours to the chocobo farm on the East Continent."
The Highwind rose high above Wutai and looped around the town in a saluting gesture, before taking off west over the ocean toward the Eastern Continent and the farm.
