I've heard of Amazon Parrots... aren't they really expensive? sweatdrop

Plus, can't they talk pretty well, too? I love parrots, though I dislike the pet trade when it comes to exotics. xp

Cool. Does it talk a lot? Does it have any certain phrases? What does it look like? I think I have a picture in my head, but I think I'm thinking of an African Grey instead of an Amazon. xp

How old is the bird? Some will take longer to warm up to people. Just like humans, animals prefer certain people over others, and may take a long or short time to trust people. Remember that parrots are very intelligent; it could take a lot of patience and kindness to win one's trust.

Also, take a look at how and where you keep the parrot. If you keep it in a bedroom and it's acting rather shy, try bringing it into a busier room during the afternoon. We were given this suggestion by a small animal veterinarian when we bought a bird. Bring it to a busy family room or living room during the afternoon, but bring it back to a quieter room at other times if it's too timid to be there constantly. Give the bird exposure to people and action, but don't overwhelm it.

We have a parakeet ourselves. Her name's Bluebelle.

She doesn't speak words, but she learned somehow that kissing is an affectionate thing, so she loves to lean over to someone's face and make a kissing noise. ^^ She even moves her beak forward like people purse their lips. Her cheerfulness always brightens my mood.

I have a yellow-crowned amazon. He's evil, too. Its not really his fault, he's just really bored because I'm the only person in the house who'll talk to him. Most of the time, he just sits there and screams, though occasionally he'll say a few intelligible words such as:

-Hello (he's got a million different ways of doing this, from angry to just plain pathetic--"hellooooooo? crying )
-Pretty bird
-Grace, go home! (Our dog, Grace, is crate trained rolleyes )
-SHUT UP!!!
-Cut the light out!
-How should I know?! (A common excuse with me and my brothers)
-MOM!!!! MOOOOM!!!!
-DAAAAVVVVIIIIIDDDD! (my little bro David, not my b/f)
-Rusty! (my other bro)
-Redrum! (Many a guest has cleared out after hearing this xd )

He also:
-Laughs
-Cries
-Imitates the phone ringing. "Brrrrrring! Brrrrrring! Hello? Hel-LO?! Hello!" and continues chattering as if on the phone. He does the same thing when we make a call with the cordless phone, as when you dial the numbers beep really loud.

The creepy thing is, his voice sounds just like mine o.O I guess that's because he mimicks mine because, as I said before, I'm the only person who'll talk to him.

XD Your parrot is very vocally talented, huh?

Does the dog listen when the parrot say, "Grace, go home?"

I've heard of many parrot owners who have been scared by their parrots immitating ambulances or alarms. I even saw a story on Animal Planet once of an older lady who had a parrot, and a burgler was breaking into the bird's room. The bird began barking like a dog, so the lady came into the room and saw a hand through the window trying to open it. She smacked the hand with her cane, and hte burgler ran away.

Yeah, Grace listens whee Like I said, the bird sounds like me. So when she hears "Grace, go home!" she thinks I'm yelling at her, sticks her tail between her legs, puts her head down, and skulks into her crate xd .

Aaaw. biggrin Poor confused girl.

Our bird thinks that people being loud means they're excited and happy. So, if we're getting into an argument and raising our voices, she starts chirping really loudly. It's really cute, and we all tend to stop arguing so we can talk to her. Bascially, the more angry you get, the more interested she is. It's all fun to her.
