My question is for the libertarians is that it's well-known public education is cheaper than private education. There is also a lot of economist saying that public education is crappier than private education. Unfortunately, statists do not believe that public education is such a bad thing. Is there really any evidence that shows that private educaton is better than public education?

outrageously false. over $370,000,000,000 (370 billion) a year is spent in the U.S. on public education for grades K-12. divide that by about 45 million students equals more than $8200 a year per child. Private school cost per child can be anywhere from 3 to 8 grand depending on the quality of the education you're going for. At the cheapest, you might be able to pull off $2500 to home-school a kid at the elementary grade level. Obviously most public schools are basically warehousing kids and are very ineffective at giving kids a decent education when compared to a private school at the same price. There's just no such thing as a free lunch.

Private schools will offer just as good an education as you're willing to buy. They vary wildly from a half-decent education not much different from public schooling to a college-quality experience. In private schools, the instructers have to actually please a customer, or they'll take their business elsewhere. In public school, the student is left without options, and has to take whatever education the state has to offer, gritting his teeth. When you privatize education, more people will be able to afford to send their kids to a place where they can really learn. I won't argue that the poor will have to rely on charity, but I think scholarships would get funds alot more quickly for elementary and secondary school kids. They're cuter than college kids.

ah ha! I have heard that private education could be cheaper than public....but I couldn't find proof. I can't really convince statist either that private education is possibly cheaper and of course...better than public education. Right now, I'm working to debunk the myths about great capitalists like rockefeller and the idiotic anti-trust laws.

when it comes to numbers and statistics, it's usually not hard to find the right data to prove your ideology, whatever that may be. All you can do is look at it all objectively and decide for yourself.

if you're coming up short on google when trying to find reference on privatization, here's one site i put on our link list -> www.honested.com

i go to a pretty expensive private institution, and we have plastic id badges with chips that can track our movement through buildings even while the devices are in our pockets.

people need to realize that privacy wasn't intended for people who are doing nothing wrong. Those people don't exist. If privacy is intended for people who do nothing wrong, then no one will have it.

I've always thought that the proof was in the difference between a High school diploma/ged, and a college degree. The public school system ends at 12th grade. Colleges are, I think, mostly private instittions, relying on tuitions for their funding. The fact that most jobs out there require a college degree shows that the public school system isn't providing the needed skills to make it in the real world. Private education is needed, and students get it by going to college. Therefore, the job market obvioulsy prefers private education to public schools. That should be all the proof anyone needs, assumng I'm right about this, of course.

good thesis, but lemme correct some things.

1. most colleges I know of are public institutions. Even some of the higher end institutions are also state institutions.

the cost to go to public education is between zero and lots, depending on the college, cost of living, and whether you are a resident. For many students, the cost is free, after the reduction of grants, residency, and scholarships, however, for many more, the cost is partially covered by loans.

this loan system is the real problem. it puts people in debt. most of the top ranked institutions are private. This still adheres to your thesis about the job market.

If we're talking about education in terms of getting into a good undergrad college, I would have to say that a private school is usually better. Although there are public schools, , that perform with or excel private schools, they are just outliers. From what I've seen from the media, general school reports, conversations, most schools tend to resemble a failing urban school where gangs recruit more kids than sports or a displaced rural school where only the worst teachers teach. With private education, you can't have those problems. Thus, private education, on average, is better.

...Although I must say, I think there is an equal number of good public schools and good private schools. It's just that public education is saturated with more failed systems.

While on the topic of private education, I'd like to take a moment to address the termination of the D.C. school voucher program, which allowed students from failing schools to attend a private school instead, usually for much less than it would cost to send the same student through public school. In response, I would suggest a private voucher program, where donations are used instead of taxpayer money. It would work on the same premise as a private scholarship, supported by companies and business, but it would not be tied to grades like those are, because in elementery or middle school, one hasn't had much opportunity to make those grades, and in a school that fails to teach, one probably could not get good grades anyway. I suppose selection would have to be based on lottery, like the pervious voucher program was. After that, grades could be used to determine whether or not to continue the scholarship.
