I am looking for some critiques and help on this sketch I'm working on:

Things I especially need help with:

  • Armor! This is my first time drawing armor so any tips or tricks would be WELL appreciated. She wears a mix of chainmail with heavy gauntlets and leg guards.
  • Anatomy - My grasp of anatomy is much better than it once was, but I still have some difficulty. If anything seems anatomically unusual please tell me! Also remember I'm going for the look of a strong, stout warrioress. She's not meant to be skinny but instead the epitome of a big-boned but well toned lady, strong in every way without being ridiculously over-muscled.
  • Feet/boots. Another weak point for me. If something looks off or could be improved, please tell me. I want a sturdy combat boot type feet to her shoes.
  • Something about the way her bangs flow seems off but I can't put my finger on what.
  • Something about the eyes is bugging me as well, too large maybe? She's supposed to have a devious look too her, maybe I didn't pull that off well enough?

This piece was drawn from a reference: [link] **WARNING: NUDITY!**

Thanks in advance to any who help! smile

Nice concept. :3

Her head seems very small, as well as her right hand and left foot. o.<

I'll try to post a redline later. ^_^;

EDIT:

Okay, so, I basically just evened out her anatomy, and changed her boots. I'm a sucker for hiking boots, 'cause I wear them all the time, so I gave her steeltoed ones. XD
I also changed the sword a bit. Sorry I can't help with the hands, but I hope the rest is helpful.

Here is my redline overlapping your art, so you can clearly see what changed how.
And here is the redline itself, so you can see my version of your drawing without getting too confused.

Good luck with the rest, I look forward to seeing the finished product. :3

First of all, thank you for taking the time to comment!

On her head, I'm not sure I want to make it too much larger than it is simply because it (to me) enhances her strong build and gives her the stout look I'm trying to achieve.

That said, this will still help me immensely as you nailed the style of the bangs and I think I see what was wrong with them. As well the boots and swords will definitely help me out. Thank you for everything ^_^

You're quite welcome. :3

Ah, I can understand that. Everyone's got their own style/way of representing certain body types. n_n

Be sure to post the finished picture? I'd really love to see it. :'D

While I was going over it, I found that your proportions are pretty keen when it comes to the body! I'm also impressed that you're doing a different body type ^^ (I'm more used to skinny girls, so don't take my critique seriously)

Overall, the only thing I thought was out of proportion was her head and her feed. Everything else was pretty good smile I wish I could help you with armour. Sorry sad

(I flipped it and forgot to flip it back, augh.)

Thank you very much! And don't feel bad about having it flipped like that as it is actually helpful in its own way since it lets me see the pose from the other angle. I'd actually shoved this project aside for a bit, but I think I'll be revisiting it soon and these critiques will definitely be helpful! ^_^
