bluewolfcub Nirguna the Heart You don't have to think of yourself as a Tibetan Buddhist, or a Zen Buddhist, or a Pure Land or Therevadan Buddhist. You can just be yourself, who may or may not agree with Buddhist teachings and practices. If one of the traditions calls to you more than another, then study it. And don't feel like you have to stick to one tradition. It's good to investigate them all, because they all have the same roots. Do you reckon there are many people who haven't dedicated to one school or another though? There aren't any temples near me/that I can get to save a tibetan one, which I wouldn't practice anyway. So, a couple years down the line, I still haven't chosen one. It niggles at me sometimes I suspect there are plenty of Buddhists who aren't dedicated to a specific sect. Personally I gravitate to Mahayana Buddhism in general and Tibetan Buddhism in particular, but I haven't had the opportunity to join a particular Tibetan sect (though there is apparently a temple within 20 miles; being a grad student with a fiancee really tends to limit one's time devoted to practice).

Mm, I was a grad student, now I am a full time job + exams on the side + commute =)

I just learned about Buddism in my philosophy/World History class. It seems to match up with my views nicely. Mediation does work wonders. Add to the mental benifits, it helps you get over pain. I have pain in my back constantly and managed to get into another state where it didn't exist anymore...I didn't know it was called meditation. The first time was when I was running; it worked, but I didn't know how. I just repeated the expirence in the bathroom. I was in pain and I though, "Mediation, why not?" and it worked. Hopefully, my parents will get me a book bag that rolls, my shoulder is hurting up a storm right now.
