Information on how to use the Grid system stuffs goes here. This System is used to compliment the information in the RFS Databook [ Rules of Combat] and the RFS Databook [ Rules of Combat, Techniques]

Reminder:
Although it's required for you to have stats for your character if you prefer NOT to number crunch in a battle you and your team are not required to use them for combat. The reason these are created was so you can tell the strength/weaknesses of your character vs another persons. So if you wish to simply RP it out that's fine but use the stats as a guideline so Metagaming does not happen. Please discuss how you wish to handle combat within your teams so that everyone is happy.
The Chuunin Exams are the only exception to this rule, all matches must use the combat & grid system.

I've always liked the combat system but with a non-graphical format it was always hard to explain location to one another(not to mention to show just how much area an explosion would take up, etc).

But now we have the Grid System!

For the purposes of an example the starting positions for the shinobi combat in the Databook is just a place i chose for them to start. There's no "official" starting positions on the Grid.

Example: Shinobi #1 vs Shinobi #2

Starting Location:
Shinobi #1: 5D
Shinobi #2: 5G

The shinobi start x blocks away from each other (usually determined by their RP Position), or as they will be called "areas".
During combat situations a shinobi is allowed:
-To move up to 2 areas if they choose to take no offensive actions
-Move two areas and perform an Offensive action at -5 To-Hit(there is one exception, see below)
-Move up to one area and perform an Offensive Action with no penalty.

Exception: If you are using a "Special" Technique like the Chidori(for example) that requires a running start you may move the full 2 areas and strike with no negative penalty.

Technique Range
Now that the grid system has been established the Techniques will be classified as: Short-Range, Mid-range or Long-Range

When the Techniques can be used (Min Distance - Max Distance)
Short-Range: Same Area to One Area Away
Example: If opponent is in A1 you can use the Technique at A1 or A2
Mid-Range: One Area to Two Areas Away
Example: If the opponent is in A1 you can use the Technique at A2 or A3
Long-Range: Three Areas to Five Areas Away
Example: If the opponent is in A1 you can use the Technique at A4, A5 or A6
**Long-Range Techniques may be used at Mid-Range but it is at a -3 To-Hit and the Damage is reduced by 1 Rank. (Example: B-Class Long-Range Technique would only do C-Class Damage at Mid-Range. The same applies to Mid-Range attacks used at Long-Range but is used at a -5 To-Hit)**

Movement:
Cost: 1 Stamina per Area moved (this is in addition to any stamina costs for attacking, defending, techniques)

During the battle Shinobi #1 decides to move back an area to perform a long-ranged Technique.

Shinobi #1
Health: Blahblah
Chakra: Blaheblah, Stamina: Blahblah
Action: Run away!
Position: 5D to 5C (1 Area)

Shinobi #2 Decides to chase, but still keep the same area distance, and throw shurikens. This successfully puts him back into mid-range distance and prevents shinobi #1 from using long-range techniques at their peak effectiveness.

Shinobi #2
Health: Blahblah
Chakra: Blaheblah, Stamina: Blahblah
Action: Chase, Throw Shuriken (Blah + Blah = Blah To-Hit, Blah Damage, Crit or No-Crit)
Position: 5G to 5F (1 Area)

Shunshin no Jutsu
The "Body Flicker Technique" has been placed into two different categories. There's the new E-class Technique, that is the former C-Class Shushin no Jutsu that has been utilized in the Technique Databooks (used for dramatic entrances/exits but can't be used in combat).

The new Shushin no Jutsu, C-Class also, allows you to "blur" across the battlefield. The "blur" leaves behind traces of your Element or your Village (up to you) in the location you were at previously.

Once used it allows you to travel up to Three Areas per post, however, where you land you are able to attack without any negative penalties for moving the Maximum distance. The trade-off for this is the "casting" costs of using the Technique (10 chakra, 5 stamina per use) in addition to whatever costs you entail for the Technique/Attack you use.
