Hello all, I was just wondering if anyone knew how to make one of those long, ribbony bow/ties that were commonly worn during the victorian era.

I can't quite tell if these are just ribbons, or actually sewen, and if the latter, is there a certain procedure or fabric to use?

Any tips are appreciated, I will be wearing this with a white blouse that has black trim and buttons, over a black skirt from Putumayo (with white lace) and a mini-top hat for a darker look than I can normall accomplish ^^;;

You mean a neck ruffle or Jabot? Let me see if I can rummage up a tutorial from the web for you.

You could just tie a ruffled ribbon around your neck, but it falls more attractively if you actually construct it from a lace fabric, or lightweight solid trimmed with lace.

Alternatively, you could make something like this with a nice piece of lace:

I'm glad I could help. At first I was confused, and thought you meant something for your hair, and then I realized what you were asking for. I'd love to see pictures of your outfit when you wear it.

I understand that. I've been mostly just going through my stuff, more than making things. I mean, I'm making things, but they are huge projects, so I can only get bits of them done each day, and it makes me feel almost like I'm not doing anything, not to mention they are spread out in my room, so I feel like a complete slob. That's why I'm reorganizing it today, instead of getting further in my projects. I think I might go a little insane. 3nodding sweatdrop

Haha, don't you hate that feeling? You have so many things going, you're not actually finishing anything ^^;;

Good for you though, to be cleaning it up, I just close the door to my sewing room and call it a day! I have so many scraps from previous projects and the scrap bin at JoAnns that I don't really know WHAT I'm doing anymore xD

Oh, I wish I had a sewing room. If I did, I'd just leave it a mess and not worry about it most of the time. But, I have to live and sew and do whatever all in the same room, so that's why it drives me nuts. When I own or rent a place of my own, and hopefully that's not very long from now, I will keep my creating areas separate from my sleeping area. In fact, I'd love to have a studio that I have to get up and walk out my front door and down the street just to get to, so that I don't have it invading my sleeping space. When I move out, my room will be my mom's sewing room. xd
