"I should have done something instead of staying here. It was stupid and unlike me." The shinigami's eyes rose to Netsubo.
"I need to talk to you in private. This is important."

Netsubo looked apprehensive,"Why? What do you have to say to me that can't be said here?"
Hao seemed a bit confused,"What's she up to?"

Faust continued to stroke Marie's hair compulsively, his fingers catching against the charred flesh and bone. He looked lost and troubled, but oddly disconnected. "Are you going to leave?" he asked quietly. "I don't want to be alone...."

Faust grasped at her clothes as she left, but his fingers slipped away and he could merely stare brokenly after her. He returned his attention to Marie, holding her body against his chest.

Netsubo once again felt guilt crush her as Faust tried to get her to stay. She wanted to go back out there with him, but Shizuka needed to speak with her.

"It'll be OK, Marie," promised Faust in a dreamlike voice. "Don't worry at all about things... your mother will be back soon, and then we'll have a good time! We can go miniature golfing, or to the zoo...."

"I don't need Netsubo to tell me," Faust said obstinately. "She has something important to talk about with the other girl... and Eliza is fine, along with Marie. You see?" he held up Marie's hand, which snapped off of her wrist, and Faust laughed again. "Oh, goodness, don't fall apart, Marie, I told you that everything would be all right. She's so helpful, she's just giving me a hand, you see?"

Faust looked up at Hao, still laughing. "My goodness, you're a strange delusion..." he said. "Shut up already. My baby is sick, but I told her that everything would be all right... and everything will be!" he absentmindedly began to suture the scorched hand back onto Marie's wrist, turning his back on Hao.
