Mana smiled at his friend, glad to finally have someone he could really trust by his side. For so many years on the island, he never really had friends. Oh sure, the community had accepted him. But no one was really willing to be his friend, at least not like William had.
"Well William, only the winners get scars. The loser is usually dead. Do keep that in mind."
He playfully wacked Will on the back with a wing before moving around to recheck William's work. He only had to fix two knots, and it wasn't anything major, merely an extra knot to secure it. He suspected the blood in William's eye had contributed to the very minor mistakes. He wondered about his future now that the Captain had mentioned promotions. Would he and William get along if one got promoted over the other? Could they still maintain their friendship when one had more authority than the other. He liked to think so, as William was an honest fellow, or at least as honest as a pirate can be.

Having reached the other side, Will looked back over at Mana. Fixing his knots, damn. He grimaced briefly. Good think he'd asked the bird-man to check them, though it was a wretched blow to have Mana spotting his mistakes. He could trust him not to rag him about it, at least.
The weasel pirate watched his friend as he worked, and his mind wandered back to the prospect of promotion. Mana was up for it, that was for damn certain. He was quick, professional, didn't talk back and never seemed to make a wrong move - who better? And he could count on Mana not to pull rank, he knew. The bird-man wasn't the sort to do it, plain and simple. He'd give orders for the sake of making the ship run, but they'd still be friends.
...Wouldn't they?
Will bit his lip. What if something changed? What if Mana was assigned different quarters, and they didn't see one another so often? What if he became friendly with someone else on the crew, maybe decided that the knockabout clown of a weasel wasn't worth his time? Sure, they didn't live in each other's pockets, but Mana was...he was his best friend. He didn't want to lose him over gold and orders and a place in the crow's nest.
If by some fluke he ever became Mana's superior, Will thought to himself, he would never stop being his friend. Some things are worth more than treasure. Like Scrap, and Mana, and Dotty, wherever she might be. No amount of being a posh officer would stop him being plain old Will, and no amount of treasure could make him leave anyone behind.
And were he ever Captain Will...every man, woman and cursed beast on his ship would be known by name and talents, given a smile or a wink of his eye, and be treated as a trusted friend.
Mana was just finishing his work on the knots, so he called to him. "All done, Mana me boy?" he shouted cheerfully. "My 'umblest apologies fer the slips - shall we get these sails unfurled, then?"
And then - home! Home at last, and food, and a bed, and a chance to get someone to look at this sword for him...
A pirate's life for him, every time.

"No one is perfect, my friend. Now lets get the sails down. Even a sea bird likes the feel of solid ground beneath his feet every so often."
Mana flew to the riggings and released the sails. With Will's help he tied them down and the ship set sail. Once the ship was in motion, he went back to his cabin for a well needed rest. Two fights then getting the ship ready for sail was tiring for the birdman.
Back in his room, he laid down on his bed while Darling Nicky purred happily from her own bed above him. He wonder what would happen to him and Will. The day he had arrived, Will had been very kind to him. He never asked about his past, he never tried to hurt him or be cruel to him, and he stuck up for the younger pirate when others questioned his abilities. Promotions meant change, and he hoped it wouldn't change his friendship with William.
William was a competant fighter and a dedicated pirate, he would obviously get a promotion. Mana was a good look out but his fighting still needed to be perfected. He couldn't do fly bys forever. He knew even if he made a higher rank than William, he would not treat his friend any different. It was not in his nature, rank just meant more responsibilties, not that your hide was worth any more than the rest of the crew. One person can't sail a ship alone, it takes everyone.

The Spaniard grumbled curses to the sea goddess under his breath. "Damned damnation!" The ship was his baby, his masterpiece, his lover. The Captain may entertain the notion of having other ships toss cannonballs at her, but the carpenter was not amused. He shook his head incredulously as he felt along the edges of a bit of broken railing. "Shhh, mi novia. I am here."

Isaac scratched his head for a moment, they had to be getting close to home. But something still didn't feel right, much like the sea was angry or something. Isaac looked out to the sky, and there were few clouds to be seen, nothing that should be making the sea this uneasy. He growled to himself, wondering if some idiot has angered the sea gods, or if it was something else.
Isaac opened the door and walked out to the deck, he eyed the majority of his crew and sighed, none of them seemed to be doing anything different. Isaac shook his head for a moment, then looked back out to the blue sea, "Whatever is happening, it isn't good..."

Jasper stared out at the sea, now that he was able to relax a bit. They had had so much happening in such a short amount of time, that now that it was calm it still felt as though something was going on. He wasn't too concerned with the captain's comment about promotions, knowing that if he were to be promoted he would, and if it was not yet time for him to be promoted, then he wouldn't. He was perfectly content to follow the will of the sea gods, as they had been the ones to permit the curse that made him much more powerful than he had been as a human.

Isaac sighed once more, the waters still seemed very uneasy. They needed to get back to their island before something bad could happen... To their luck, Isaac could see the shore of the island in the distance. He let a small grin cross his face, it seemed that they were going to get back to the island without any problems...
Isaac turned to his crew, "The island is not far off, prepare to dock!" he yelled out to anyone with ears that would listen. He then turned back to look at the nearing shore. It appeared that they were going to be safe from what ever was making the ocean seem so uneasy, but something just didn't make Isaac feel like they were safe... At least not yet...

Isaac looked around his ship, very few people were on deck, and those that were, weren't doing a damn thing! He growled to himself then said, "Blasted crew, turn your back on them for a mere moment and they slack off!" he shook his head then drew his blade, turning back around to his crew.
"Alright you lazy animals!" he said, his voice seeming as loud as a clap of thunder, "we are almost home, and none of you will dock the ship!" he swung his blade somewhat threateningly then spoke again, "get to work and dock this ship!" he grinned for a moment, "Unless you all want to just turn around and go right back through that deathly fog!" He hoped that his words would get his crew back in line, though he was starting to think he'd have to dock the damn ship on his own.

Mana looked down to see his captain quite unhappy at the slow pace things were going. Well, that was one way to lose a promotion. The bird man flew around the sails, making sure to close a few of the larger ones so they would slow down enough to dock. He most certainly didn't want to go back out into the fog. You can't fly over it when you are on a ship.

Isaac sighed softly, his beckoning didn't seem to do much in getting his crew to work. He looked up and saw that one of the Rigging Rats was actually doing their job to help dock the ship. "Heh, looks like one of these animals will be getting promoted in the near future" he laughed softle and put away his blade before he walked to where the Anchor was kept.
he reached the anchor and looked at it, "Well, looks like I have to lower the damn thing," he said with a growl, then began to lower the heavy thing down to the bottom of the water. Within a few moments, the anchor was down and the ship seemed to quit moving. He then turned around and went over to the riggings and looked up at the fellow that was actually doing some work, "You!" he beckoned, "come down here!"

Mana blinked as he heard the familiar "Hey You" in reference to him. Strange how everyone seemed to know if he was the one it was directed at. He looked down to see his captain demanding his presense. He wondered if he was going to get an ear full. He tucked in his wings and fell most of the way. The feathery appendages opened up in time to slow his fall and let him land with a thump on the deck. "Aye Cap'n?"
The young boy looked to his stalwart captain, his young age showing right through. Depsite his time on the ship he was still one of the younger crew members.

Isaac laughed for a moment at the boy's little decent, then his normally serious face reappeared. He coughed a little before speaking, "Manakel Masozi, a Rigging Rat, if I am not mistaken," he said, before a smile crossed his face one more, "My boy, I am impressed with you," he paused for a moment, "I'm not going to say too much, but you might not be a Rigging Rat for much longer," he laughed softly, trying to somewhat tell the boy that he was possibly in the light for promotion, even though he was young.
Isaac then turned around and began to leave the ship. They were home after all, and he was going to try and enjoy a little of their time there, even though he still felt that something was wrong. After he had stepped down onto the island, he yelled out to his crew, "We're docked at home, get your lazy selves down to the island!" his booming voice being heard throughout the whole ship. He then continued on his way to his hut, and for what was likely to be a short resting period.

Mana nodded as the captain spoke his name and rank. Then he blinked a bit as the captain said he might not be a rigging rat for much longer. Was he really getting a promotion? He was one of the youngest crew members, he hadn't even been onboard as long as some of the others had. He wasn't sure about this. But the before he could say anything the captain walked off the ship.
When the order to get to the island was issued, Mana waisted no time. But he wasn't walking. He spread his large white wings and took off into the sky. It felt good to get a good fly around. He also had never really been to the island since joining up with the crew so he wanted to get a bird's eye view of the place, so he wouldn't get lost. Perhaps later, he'd find himself a small hut of his own and talk about what the captain had said with William.

A strange looking woman appeared on the deck of the Cuore Scuro. She looked around, and noticed that nobody was on the ship, as if it was abandoned. "Hmm," she said, as she wondered to herself, "this is quite odd..." She continued to look around, then noticed that it appeared that the crew of the ship had left to go onto the island.
"So, they had a reason to go onto this island..." she paused, "and they left their ship unguarded... That is quite abnormal." She thought to herself once more, then came to a conclusion, "They must have homes on this island, so they feel that they don't need to guard their ship from attacks..." Astrid laughed to herself, "so, I just need to find the people on the island, and if I was to guess, I would assume they would hide inside the forest..." Astrid then vanished from the deck.

Isaac smiled, that was more like it. The whole crew wasn't present, but it was better than nobody bothering to do their jobs. Isaac looked around, and everything seemed about ready for the ship to head back out, and onto their mission.
Isaac began to call out, "All hands! Raise the anchor and set the sails, we are departing now!" his loud voice booming as it always does. He then began to head toward his cabin as the journey would take some time, it was unlikely that the damned fog that hindered their return was gone, and the island they were to go to was a fair distance away.
