Bah! Can I ask you guys a question? I know I am just starting as the new Transfiguration teacher and all, but what do you suggest I do to get the kids more interested in my class? There are hardly any posts through out the week, I'm doing all I can to start the class up, and I only have about... 10 students... How did you guys get your students interested in the class? Like you, Blac Magik, or Nerevar Telvanni? I've creeped (Sorry... ^^; ) on your classes, and they seem to be very successful... Oh, Congrats on the Vice Status, Blac Magik! And, Nerevar, Congrats on your second place there. You two seem to have a lot of respect around here.

They do have a lot of respect smile Perhaps it's just because they've been around longer, but don't worry. You're really new, so don't get discouraged. I pretty much cancelled my chorus class so I can't say my class is successful, but this guild certainly seems to be! biggrin Just give it time. Make things seem really interesting, really get people who even aren't in your class involved. Go to the grounds and the great hall and really get to know who you're dealing with, make transfiguration fun! Maybe tell the student that today you'll be transfiguring unicorns, something crazy that they will just have to come and see smile

O.o STALKER!
Now that I got that out of my system, lol, I can try to offer some advice.
Just going to say 1st off Transfiguration has been an idol class for awhile now, the previous teacher was also a very busy college student on the way to becoming a teacher herself. So because of that idolness people may have forgotten about the class.
Okay 1st thing go to this thread: Schedules: Guild and Classrooms, and Classroom details. and copy and paste the list of students under Transfiguration. Then take the quote code

Then take a trip here: [ X ] and do the same thing I did with the quote tower, that way people will know when you have a new assignment, and let them know that the class is no longer idol.
You also need to take into account that some of the people on the Transfig list might no longer be in the guild anymore, or are taking a break from Gaia, etc. I had that problem in my class, even the ones who are still in the guild, they all don't show up. For example I haven't had anyone that in Hufflepuff post in my class in God knows how long.
Like Sing said you need to visit other area's of the guild and talk with people there, let the "student" get to know you outside of class. Me I had a easier time with this since my OC was a student when he joined, and later become a Professor after "graduating."
Also try not to have assignments go on for too long, people will start to get bored and uninterested. I know its hard to figure out the time table between assignments, so I normally judge mine on how many people in the class have posted. Use the Harry Potter wiki for ideas, I know that some class's have more information that others, and you may have to "invent" spells.

Well, I have been looking around, and there are a lot of transfiguration spells, and enough information so far (Don't worry... When I run out of things to teach, I'm not afraid to make a few spells up...), but a lot of them came from the HP games... But, it's not a big deal. I was looking for a color-changing spell, and I thought I would have to make one up. But, there is a color changing spell that came from one of the games, "Colovaria," which I will be using as my first official lesson for all my students. Only, the first and second years will be changing like... a feather quill or something, the third through fifth will probably change like... I don't know, a water-goblet or a rat, and the sixth and seventh years will be changing their own hair color probably.
The only thing is... I don't know how I should approach the other students. I mean, I guess I could ask the other students to talk up the class once I get started, or I could actually go talk to some of the students that are in the class but not showing up yet... I mean, I have about six students that are actually doing work, and that is fine with me. I just figured that after that announcement, I would have a few more. But... no. ^^;
I did put up a list of students in my class room, so hopefully, I'll be more prepared when I do actually go out and meet some students. I'll probably go do something stupid in the great hall just to get people to know me better, then I can really get people interested in transfiguration (hopefully).
I bet this will be easier next year. Hopefully it will, anyway. I'll be able to start fresh, there'll be new schedules, and everyone who's still enrolled will be able to come to the class and start out fresh. I just wish it would happen now.

Haha, that was rather stalker-esque of you.
Anyway, I find that you cannot really force a student to come to class, as they will not even receive the message if they are taking a break from Gaia, as Nerevar said. Plus, I find that if I try to force a student to come to class that does not want to, I get posts like '___ sat down', which are rather pointless. I will try to encourage students to come to class by hinting at an interesting lesson, but I have learned forcing students to come to lessons almost always backfires.
I would suggest you think of lessons that are as interesting and immersive as physically possible. If you stir up some drama in your class every once in a while, it can also keep students interested and inspire them to keep up-to-date in case something else interesting happens. And try to be aware of students vibes toward the lesson. For example, when I see that the posts are becoming rather short, I begin to lean toward a new topic. The reason I say 'when the posts are becoming short' is because at the beginning of a lesson, there is so much for them to write about, and if a lesson begins to get too long, there becomes less and less new and interesting information to respond to.
And I completely understand your desire to have a fresh start, and I assure you that will come in due time. Just try and use your current time with the students to get your roleplaying skills up, create a style for your class, and get as much feedback as possible from the people you are actually teaching. Who better to give you suggestions, right? That way, when you do get a fresh start next year, you will be fully prepared for what's ahead of you.
And thank you!

Hey! I have a few things to ask you!
First, I was going to ask you what you think about my next lesson, which is about Animagi (Is that the plural form?)
I am going to have them read an article about it, and answer some questions. I know, boring, and then we are going to start transfiguring animals into objects, which should be fun.
Number two, I wanted to know if you were going to cover Werewolves, or if I should? I know that in POA that Snape comes in to the D.A.D.A class and starts to teach them about Werewolves (only to be a total douche about it), but I thought that it may be another good subject for me to teach? Simply because it is a human changing into another creature, which is transfiguration first of all. And second of all, I really would like them to know the difference between a werewolf, an Animagus and a Metamorphmagus. But, you tell me, because I do not want to step into your territory with teaching. You do have more student involvment and your class seems to be in higher of demand.

Yeap that's the plural form. I think its okay, it's basically just a lecture lesson, your not having them actually transform so it wouldn't break the canon.
I've covered Werewolves already, but that was a LONG TIME AGO and that was during the time I was coming up with seven different lessons, one for each year. So only a very people like 3 at the max got to learn it. So No I don't mind if you each them about them, after all sometimes our subjects merge with one another.

Okay, cool. I think this will be a good lesson for the kids, and for me, since my character is 'Supposedly' a registered Animagus, so she'll actually get to show them how it works. Thanks!

Hey some time over the summer, once the "school year" is over we should go though all the lists the guild has and update to make sure that these people are still in the guild. If not remove them from all the lists.

Sure thing, sounds like a plan. Although I will be rather busy throughout the summer, so be sure to notify me if we are planning on setting a date for it.

If we hadn't had a quote tower going I would have freaked out a bit trying to figure out who Kalle Doodle was. O.o lol
