Our Witch of the Month

This is where we post the Witch or Wizard of the Month! Their Avatar and interview will be posted. The Witch/Wizard is chosen by their activeness in the school, their personality, and any other redeeming qualities they posses. Here's this month's choice!

She is our newest addition to the School Staff, she puts the "grr" in Gryffindor, she's...

My interview with Celestial:

Q: What, if you are willing to disclose, is your name?
A: Sarah.

Q: How did you discover Gaia and , eventually, our lovely guild?
A: Well I discovered gaia through some friends, I was in class and told them I was bored. They told me I should check the site out. I did and here I am. As for the guild I believe I was just browsing the guild types and found The Harry Potter Guild of Gaia. I took a look and applied; I'm pretty sure everyone else knows the rest wink

Q: How have you liked being the new Head of Gryffindor House? Do you ever worry about being so new to the guild compared to you predicessor?
A: I am really enjoying being the new Head of Gryffindor and all my friends were really supportive when I was made the new head. I don't really worry about being so new, we are two different people and brought what we have to Gryffindor house. That said I'd hope no one would compare me to the past head.

Q: What has been the best part about being a moderator? What about the worst part?
A: The best part for me would have to be that I can help the guild more then I could when I was just a member. As of right now I don't have a worst part.

Q: How do you feel about the new term? Worried? Excited?
A: Excited.

Q: What is your favorite thread within the guild?
A: I don't really know, there are a lot of threads I like, I wouldn't feel right just picking one.

Q: What has been your, so far, favorite memory of the guild?
A: When I got the PM saying I was promoted...lol. I still have that PM too. biggrin

Q: What about worst?
A: That so many of our previous members have left. I may not have known them really well, but it is still sad to lost people for whatever reason.

Q: What is your favorite book/author outside of Harry Potter/J.K. Rowling?
A: At the moment my favorite book is The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.

Q: I?m assuming that you have read the sixth book, being a mod and all, what did you think?
A: Yes I have read the sixth book. I enjoyed it over all. I really liked that it showed that there were things Harry thought he understood but in all actuality he only partly understood. I didn't like that Snape killed Dumbledore; I figured it was going to happen but I still didn't want it too. Sorry if I spoiled it for anyone. sweatdrop

Q: Which is your favorite character from J.K.'s books? Which do you think you are most like?
A: May all time favorite character would have to be Sirius Black. I've never really tought about which character I'm most like. My friends who know me really well would probably say I'm a female version of Harry. confused

Q: You are walking down the street in London and you see J.K. herself! If you could ask J.K. any question about anything (like the books) what would it be?
A: If I could ask one thing I'd probably ask about nothing related to the books but about her past, like what she wore to her prom if she went. sweatdrop

Q: What do you think about being chosen as the Witch of the Month?
A: I'm honoured, I'd never think I would be picked as Witch of the Month. So thank you heart

Q: Finally, once again, is there anything else you want to tell the readers?
A: I'm glad that the Hogwarts Monthly is back up and running. Also I really am enjoying teaching and I hope my students are enjoying my class.

House Discrimination at Hogwarts

By BabyShady
-----As I walked up and down the corridors of Hogwarts, a strange thought crossed my mind. Of course there were many people lurking around our school, each with their own personality, but the changes in them were so different.
-----For instance, on my way out of my Transfiguration class, I was one of many to witness a scene, involving an upset Gryffindor boy ,who was walking beside many of his friends. A girl accidentally ran into him from behind, causing him to turn in fury. He opened his mouth to shout at her, but, even though he, obviously, did not know the girl, he saw that she shared the same house. She was a Gryffindor first year, so he let her off the hook.
-----Now, at first, I continued on, clutching my large books and careful not to let my pencil escape my grip, yet as I neared my dormitory, I released that if it was I who had bumped into the boy, he would have surely not kept on walking as he had done with the first year. Just because I was not in Gryffindor, the boy would have shouted at me, accusing me of things that I truly did not do.
-----So, as I dropped my supplies onto my bed and rested a bit before my next class, I finally realized the truth behind the four houses of Hogwarts. They separate us more than anything else, and although that could be a wonderful thing for many, is it really the best decision?
-----Of course, as I said earlier, everyone has different personalities. For example, a young girl many days ago tripped on her long robes, dropping all her belongings around the floor. I did not know exactly what house she belonged to, but I knew she did not share it with the young gentleman who helped her collect the supplies. They were in two different houses, and surely they knew, yet they worked together, and even for the simplest things, it could mean something special. Not everyone secluded themselves from the outside world. Some were open to meeting those who at first did appear to be of their kind. They look deeper inside their personality, not fooled by the color of the patch on their robes, or the bed in which they sleep.
-----So I went into deeper thought. What is the purpose of our four houses? Sure, they each teach our students what they need to learn. One separates the brave, while another holds the clever. Those who desire power have their place, and the loyal have theirs, as well. But is there more to these houses than what we truly know?

-----Most fans of J.K. Rowling?s books have checked out her site and all those other biggies, like Mugglenet, The Leaky Cauldron, and the site get your hard facts, Lexicon; these are just a few of the popular ones. But many don't go too far beyond that. Sure we all like to read a fanfic every now and then; and most wont say no to looking at some fanart. There are sites out there that are amazing, but most just don't bother to look for them. So I'm here to give you the scoop. Each month, from now, onward, I'll be showing the readers a site that I've found in my wondering about the internet.

User Image

-----While, unfortunately, the site is currently under construction, which means it might disappear, it was still home to many great Harry Potter-related goodness. I have all the graphics from the site saved onto my computer and I'll give you some of them, so you can enjoy it as much as I did. I?ll even try to make a thread in the guild for the site if it comes back up and we find the creator has decided to bin the thing.
-----I think people will enjoy everything from the wonderful and humorous comics to the highly entertain F&Q page that entails such things as Sirius?s favorite flavor of ice cream. Well, I?ll let it speak for itself...(Sorry about the amount of images, and, obviously, it?s a page stretcher?)

-----Harry and Ron were invisible in McGonagall's office. She made sure the door was shut, and then sat at her desk, opened a drawer and pulled out a pensive.
----- " Ron, do you think she will mind if we sneak a peak at her thoughts..." Harry whispered, winking at Ron as they gathered closer to the desk...
***
----- As soon at they were sucked into the pensive Professor Snape ran into the room of the pensive, " Where do you suspect we are?" Questioned Ron.
----- Harry looked around and immediately took notice of the spinning gears and cogs as well as the snoozing portraits.
----- "Must be Dumbledore's office..." Harry concluded. "Well, looks like we went pretty far back in time, that calendar on the wall says it's the 19 of January, 1982!" Stammered Ron as his eyes grew as big as the grandfather clocks face.
----- "Do you suspect we are in here alone? It looks pretty quiet..." said Harry.
----- " McGonagall must be here, I mean this is her memory..." Answered Ron rolling his eyes.
----- "Oh right redface " said Harry. Just then, Mcgonagall herself walked into the room.
----- "Speak of the devil", said Ron grinning. However this professor was not the that the boys had known all their years at Hogwarts. There was no trace of grey hairs in that tight bun that somehow looked more ladylike than they remembered. Her skin and face looked younger as well, although she did look quite distraught. She had a letter in her hand. Harry was about to try to see who it was from, or better yet, read it, when Dumbledore walked into the office from his study.
----- "Hello, Minerva, what seems to be the problem?" Questioned a slightly younger Dumbledore; he seemed to be in his late 50's and Minerva her late 20's.
----- "Albus it seems some student has made a large ruckus down in Muggle Studies..," she replied, rolling her eyes. Ron tried holding his breath to keep from laughing, as he saw a strange student who walked in resembling a young Sirius.
----- " Well, I guess I shouldn't be to surprised. I mean he was friends with a group of trouble makers." Answered Ron, nodding and rolling his eyes," anyway, let's get back to McGonagall."
----- Harry and Ron listened inventively as they saw McGonagall start to open the mysterious letter.
----- "Head Master, as I was on my way to the Owlery I was struck by this letter on the grand stair case, straight on the forehead." Sirius looked around, looking for a way to get away. As he did this, Dumbledore noticed him and winked.
----- "Minerva, hand that letter over to me, it seems to be addressed to young Mr. Black here."
***
----- Just then, the room seemed to have melted away from them and a new one began to refocus. Only Harry didn't recognize this room. The walls and furniture were obviously old and seemed to have been worn and un-noticed but recently cleaned; as if they had been there for ages and were just found and cared for.
----- Then Ron let out the smallest gasps of understanding and said, "This a room at #12Grimmauld Place. It was that room that leads out of the bedroom where Buckbeak was. You never saw it because mum went up there first to see what needed to be done to it and thought she saw an Erkling or something so she locked it up and wouldn't let us go up there. I guess they cleaned it after Christmas and found whatever it was."
----- Then they realized that McGonagall was already in there, sitting in one of the dilapidated chairs and Harry noticed a cane was near by.
----- "This can't have been too long ago; she must have just been out of St. Mungos."
----- It seemed like she was waiting for someone. Harry and Ron didn't have too long to wait around thinking of who she could be waiting for, however, because just then the door opened and in came Mad Eye Moody.
----- Moody looked around and the spotted Mcgonagoll.
----- "You wanted to speak to me?" he asked.
----- "No, but a friend of mine did." McGonagall replied and turned towards the door, letting in Snape.
----- "I have received information that Sirius Black is to be used as a decoy to bring Harry Potter to the Ministry of Magic." he said very quickly and quietly.
----- "What does this have to do with me?" Moody said in a low growl.
----- "You're distant enough from Sirius to not let your emotions get in your way. Lupin would not understand; he would want to keep Sirius safe."
----- "Alright, I still don't understand." Moody said, his normal eye staring at Snape, Magical resting on McGonagall.
----- "Well, he wont be used directly, but this is our chance to alert the rest of the wizarding world of the Dark Lord's return. So Harry may be lured. That is, if he hasn't been practicing Occlumency, which I doubt he has."
----- "What?"
----- Mcgonagall broke in, "Don't you understand Alastor? This is our chance, our chance to even the odds."
----- "But what if Voldemort hears the prophecy?"
----- "There's no important information in there. We can sacrifice it." Snape said.
----- "But what does Sirius have to do with this?"
----- "He may want to go to help Potter, of course."
----- "Alright" growled Moody
----- "Well, I also have information that Bellatrix Lestrange poses a serious threat to Potter. She also poses a threat to Sirius."
----- "So you want to use him as a decoy?" Moody growled in disbelief.
----- "Harry doesn't have a chance against Bellatrix" McGonagall broke in.
----- "And Black is an equal to her, much more likely to survive. He will understand. He would give his life for Potter any day, as would all of us, I'm sure." Snape said with a slight sneer.
----- " I'm sure I would understand," interrupted Lupin as he rushed in the door.
-----"I am glad you are here. I am sure we can use your help" Replied McGonagall sternly.
-----The story turns back to Ron and Harry as they watch something obviously confusing them.
-----"What do you suspect this means?" Asked Harry, obviously confused, "I know this is important, but I don't even know what to think of this. For one thing, I don't know when this is happening, this could be from when I first met Voldemort... or, they could be saying that I will meet him again..."
----- "Well, it sounds to me that this has to be just before we all went to the Department of Mysteries." Ron said, although more to himself than to Harry, "they're talking as if Sirius hasn't died yet. But I don't get it; did they know that Sirius was going to die? Or did they just know that Voldemort was going to trick us into going down there?"
----- "Shh" Harry said, as Lupin began to talk again.
----- "Thank you, Minerva. Anyways, I know Sirius would be willing to protect Harry, as would we all, but I don't see why you aren't talking to him about this."
----- Snape, who didn't look happy that Lupin had entered this conversation, checked what looked like a watch from inside a pocket in his robes as McGonagall said...
***
----- The walls faded away once again and the reappearing ones were worn wood, covered with pictures of old and famous wizards like Nicolas Flamel.
----- "Whoa, where are we now?" Asked Harry.
----- "This place looks familiar like I see it everyday but something about it is different..." Answered Ron puzzled.
----- It seemed to be a den. There must have been a kitchen near by because they heard someone washing dishes in the next room.
----- Suddenly, a little girl (who looked remarkably like Ginny) came down a set of stairs to their left. She was wearing an old jumper that seemed to be fashioned to the styles of the 50's.
----- She looked annoyed and cried, "MUM!? They put Doxy droppings in my jumper again! If they do it one more time, I swear I'll pull the twigs out of their Silver Arrows!"
----- A voice came out of the room they supposed was the kitchen, "Molly, just put it in the wash and I'll take care of it as soon as I'm done."
----- Harry looked at Ron, dumbfounded, "Molly!? That's not, that can't be..."
----- Ron looked in wide-eyed amazement at the fiery little girl, "mum???"
----- Harry Started laughing uncontrollably, " Mrs. Weasley, wow, Ginny definitely looks like her mum."
----- "Weird, I guess her brothers were just like Fred and George..." Laughed Ron.
----- Harry murmured," I wonder what would have happened if they meat their uncles more before they died."
----- "I know" Harry said, watching a young (she couldn't have been more than 11 or 12) Molly stamp back up stairs.
----- "All right", she yelled back at Ron's grandmother, "but if Gideon and Fabian pull one more prank on me! I swear there'll be bonfires with broomsticks!"
----- "You wont touch our broomsticks" said a voice entering the room.
----- "Not unless you want Bobadaux powder in your knickers next, that is" said a very similar voice coming from the same direction.
----- Harry and Ron whipped around and saw them.

----- It was amazing, they were both half expecting replicas of Fred and George themselves, and they were identical to very last freckle. But instead of the broad shape of Fred and George, they were looking at sort of hybrids of Ron, Bill, and Percy but with features that couldn't have belonged to any of them. For instance they definitely had Ron's long nose, and wore horn-rimmed glasses like Percy's, and were both built in the tall stature that Ron, Percy and Bill have, but there were definitely mistakes. For instance their hair was much darker than any of the Weasley's hair, it was red, but didn't come off with the flaming quality that Ron's had. They seemed to have fewer Freckles as well. And yet they definitely gave off the same element of "cool" that Bill emulated with such ease.
----- Ron stared at them, open mouthed. "Amazing, just think of what I missed in those uncles!" Exclaimed Ron.
----- "What?" replied Harry as he looked the direction Ron was, confused.
----- "No, Harry, those are my uncles, I never met them because... you know, they died..." said Ron with a small crack in his voice.
----- "Yeah, well... I'm not glad I got to meet my uncle..." said Harry rolling his eyes.
----- "Harry, lets just watch, this is starting to get interesting." Ron implied with a smirk.
----- The woman's voice from the other room was heard once again, "Boys, if you two don't leave your little sister alone, I'll have your father hang you up by your ankles in the attic!" Her voice sounded as if this was an upstanding joke threat.
----- "Right mum", Fabian said in a buoyant sort of way.
----- "But then who would de-gnome the garden?" said Gideon.
----- "We've just finished, by the way" added Fabian.
----- "I would!" said the young Molly as she came back down the stairs.
----- The twins laughed at this.
----- "Please, Mol! You're killing us..." Fabian said when his laugher subsided.
----- "You've been scared of gnomes since you were five." Gideon teased.
----- "Well, you would be too if one had snuck in the house and hidden in your shoe..." Molly said, puffed up with furry, but still now slightly deflated.
----- "I know, it was pretty funny that it bit your toe though..." Fabian said, holding back more laughs.
----- "And even funnier that it swelled up to the size of a golf ball..." Gideon added while attempting to keep a straight face.
----- "The point is that if I find doxy droppings in any of my garments one more time, I'll curse you myself!" Molly said in a temper.
----- "Now, calm down Mol!" Came the woman's voice again. "Boys, leave her alone." The boys went upstairs. Most likely plotting in the same way that the twins do.
----- "Harry, why do you think the pensive brought us here, I mean what does this have to do with Professor McGonagall?" Asked Ron looking around for another sign of a young Minerva.
----- "Ron, look over there!" Said Harry in an excited whisper, "who do you suspect that is?" A young figure who looked like a teenager came in the room. She had long brown hair and a strict voice.
----- "So, where is Molly?" The woman asked as Molly walked excitedly inside the room. "Minerva!" The woman voice yelled back from the room. "Welcome to our humble home. Settle in an...."
***
----- The voice melted away as Harry and Ron got an odd sensation. There head were pulled from the Pensive.
----- "Potter, Weasley. What are you doing?!" Asked a strict voice. They were speechless as McGonagall looked at them sternly.
----- "Err..." Replied Harry as he looked at Ron.
----- "There is no excuse, now come this way." She added as she pointed a finger at her door and continued out. She dragged them down to Dumbledore's Office.
----- "I caught these two spying in my pensive." She reported to Dumbledore as she he stood up.

Tracy and the Match

By BabyShady

-----Tracy walked into the detention she had received for being late for Potions. She tared blankly as her professor handed her a mop and a dirty bucket filled with soapy water.
-----"You will clean the entire floor of my classroom, the muggle way. I don't want to see any spots left on my floor, or you will stay longer. I shall not dismiss you until you have finished- to my liking. Begin."
-----Tracy held on to the large stick she had been given. She couldn't believe it. Tracy Alban, feared by many due to the house in which she belonged, was cleaning the Potion's floor with a stick!
-----It took a while for her to learn how to use the old fashioned item, but she worked as quickly as possible. There was a quidditch game occurring at the moment, and although she had been replaced for her chaser position, Tracy still wanted to see the outcome. Slytherin was playing against Gryffindor, what better game to miss!
----- Great, now everyone's jumping up and down watching the game and guess whose cleaning floors... she thought to herself.
-----Tracy checked her magical watch as often as she could, yet it seemed time has frozen. Probably another trick of his she thought, throwing a harsh glare toward her professor. But she was wrong, the clock was working perfectly. Hours passed and the large floor finally began to shine. Sure it wasn't as good as magic could have made it, yet it was fine, and even Tracy had to admit it. She walked back over to her professor, who held a glowing smile.
-----"Finished already?" he asked thoughtfully.
-----Tracy only nodded.
-----"Well then, let's have a look, shall we?" He lifted himself from the comfortable armchair that Tracy could only dream of sitting upon, and walked over to examine the floor.
-----"Not bad, not bad," he said. "Same time next week."
-----"What?!" Tracy shouted. She had tried to control herself, but again next week!
-----"You are dismissed," said the professor, still smiling.
-----"Yes sir..." She stomped out of the large classroom and ran as fast as she could to the Quidditch field. But as she continued on, she was so luck as to run into Junior, who seems to be something of a son of Peeves, as if one poltergeist in Hogwarts wasn't enough.
-----"Tracy!" he shouted.
-----"Shut up Junior," she yelled back, desperately trying to avoid him.
-----"That isn't very nice," he said, cackling as he soared beside her.
-----"I don't care!"
-----"I see you just got out of detention; I don't think you'll be wanting to go back, especially now with the quidditch game almost done. I bet you just want to see it, don't you? Well, I could see the whole game from the window in Madam Hooches' room, if only you where there to see your beloved team losing!"
-----Tracy ignored him. For once he was right, she didn't want to go back to detention, at least not now, so the best action would be to leave him alone, and not be blamed for any of his rule-breaking actions.
-----"Ah...you seem too kind to belong in your house, Slytherin isn't for the good-natured."
-----"That's what most seem to think, now junior leave me alone!"
-----It seemed junior had gotten a bit angry with her, he had hoped she would shout back and eventually get herself in trouble. But he wouldn't give up; the poltergeist ran down beside Tracy and dropped a small glass filled with yellow liquid beside her.
-----"What's this?" she asked miserably.
-----"For you," he replied.
-----Unwillingly Tracy leaned over and picked up the glass. "What the-"
-----"Tracy Alban!" Tracy jumped and turned around. Her potions' professor stormed down the long corridor. "What are you doing with that?"
-----Tracy looked at the glass in her hand, then turned up and noticed Junior had suddenly disappeared. "Junior...he was..."
-----"That's the potion I was supposed to use to teach today's first year class. But thanks to you, I was left teaching them about Bezoars, which was scheduled for next class. Come to my office, I suspect another detention coming your way," said the professor.
-----"But, the game..."
-----And there it was...she was to miss all of the quidditch game, the most important one of the year. It turns out Junior wasn't much different from the Peeves we know.

The Truth Figured Out: Part II

By Christen Wilson
-----"I'm so sorry!" Gino said, trying to get up from where he had fallen down but he felt a little dizzy.
-----"Here" said two of the girls that were standing, helping him up by both his arms. One had light brown hair that went down to the middle of her back and storm grey eyes. The other had the same length of hair, except it was red, though she had the same color of eyes as well. Gino shook his head and rubbed his eyes, clearing his vision, then he looked around at the two girls then, at the one on the floor. This one had dark brown hair and blue eyes; she just sat there, watching him.
-----"I'm sorry I ran into you, Miss" said Gino, which caused her to snap back into reality.
-----"It's ok, really. I was just wondering why you looked so scared?" She said.
-----"Well, I wish I could tell you but it would just cause panic" Gino replied, walking, over to her and helping her up.
-----"Oh, My name is Ruby, just for the sake of it." Ruby said, smiling.
-----"Well, I guess you might know me" Gino replied, almost darkly, rolling his eyes at the popularity he has gotten over the year.
-----"You are popular, Gino Gambino" replied the red head behind him. She, then, added, "I'm Christen."
-----Gino nodded and said. "It's nice to meet you. Ruby and Christen. What about....?" He added, looking at the light brown haired girl.
-----"Oh, I'm Dra! Sorry about that, I kind of zoned out there." She said smiling at him.
-----"Well, if you three really want to know why I'm running away, I'll tell you once we get to a safe place." Gino said, seeing the curious looks on all three faces.

***

----- Outside, Ian had gotten up from trying to tackle Gino and dusted the dirt he had gotten on his coat off, then straightened his hat.
-----"So, he goes into the casino, how nice." He muttered, looking at the doors to the big yellow building thinking.
-----"I think I will go in there to ask Lex if he's seen a blonde boy" Ian said, beginning to walk toward the casino doors.

***

-----In the back rooms of the casino, Gino had explained everything that went on in Sasha's house and how he had gotten away.
-----"You mean Ian is looking for you right at this moment?" Dra asked, trying to pry some more out of him, without going to far.
-----"Yes, he is, and he has a knife with him too." Gino continued.
-----"We'll be here for you, we don't want you hurt. Well, actually, there are tons more that would kill Ian if they got to him" Christen said, applying to Gino's harem, but he didn't know about it yet.
-----Ruby giggled and Dra rolled her eyes. "Excuse Ruby, she's been wanting to meet you forever" She said, receiving a glare from Dra.
-----"Don't tell me, you two are sisters?" Gino asked and Christen butted in.
-----"Yes, they're sisters and they do this a lot. I swear, sometimes I want to run away and forget them but they're my friends" She said and he just nodded.
-----"Well, that was nice" Dra replied, looking at Christen with an upset look.
-----"Hey, I'm sorry" Christen said, shrugging.
-----"Ok, you two, stop talking. I hear Ian outside" Ruby suddenly said, pressing her head to the door to listen to the conversation outside.
-----It was surely Ian and Lex talking.
-----"Gino Gambino? I have never seen him in the casino. I'm sure he doesn't even know this exists, Ian calm down!" Lex said and then Ruby heard Ian.
-----"Sasha is going to fret if she knew Gino was gone. Lex, I need to find him!" He said.
-----"Fine, let's check the bathroom" Lex muttered, sounding half annoyed now.

***

-----Just then, the door knob begin to turn to the room the four were in.
-----"Crap, what are we going to do!?" Ruby whispered, backing away from the door.
-----"Ruby, hold the door. We'll get Gino out of here, then follow us, ok?" Christen quickly whispered, opening the window she was near and signaled for Dra and Gino to climb out.
