Specifically, it's a mathematical constant that equals about 3.14 (March 14 on the calendar). Though it goes it infinite decimal places. It is used to calculate the area of a circle among other things. Mathematically, Pi is equivalent to the Circumference of the circle divided by the Diameter.

I also heard Facebook has started planning for Pi Day 2015. Big party.
3-14-15, 9:25 am - 9:30 pm (thus encompassing both 3.141592654's that day)
