In memory of John James Oravec: 1/24/1918 - 10/29/2010. May he rest in peace.

[Ölüm]

(Unfortunately, there is not a fleck of remorse within me.)

Her beautiful hair flowed in the wind. Her memory lingered within him. Somewhere within those depths of hatred and disgrace, there was a glimmer of hope that something human still existed in that decrepit and tainted soul of his. There were certain things that he would remember about her:

The way she smiled at him in the moonlight.

The way her eyes glistened with every moment.

The way her soft hand touched his cheek...

Death was one thing that he could never come to terms with. He understood that it too, would encompass him, no matter how cursed he was to have the ability to regenerate. He wanted to escape to her; to finally be able to walk side by side with her in heavenly bliss... and somewhere within him, another man existed with the hope that that bliss would someday come true.

...death, however, could not heal wounds that had been already made in life. If a person died in vain for a reason that was cruel and unjust, then the fire of that person's passion still burned fiercely in those that were close...

---

If a person left conflicts unresolved, then after the mourning... those conflicts would arise again. Twisting into a new head, a new idea... these ideas would fuel rage and hatred. A person's death can either permanently heal or permanently divide those in a conflict...

Often, division is the easier road taken.

Without her in Ölum's life, there was nothing stopping him from completely exiling himself from the society that killed her, and creating his own version of paradise where he could be accepted as a great prophet and conqueror.

{A heart shed for power is the only heart of worth.}

[Castle Oblivion : Kitchen]

Vereor nodded in thanks to Aiko and Aria, a brief smile curling his lips upward as he did so. Tea was one of the few things about home he missed- or, rather, one of the few things he would miss, if such a humane thing were to occur. It was a tradition of his family's that he'd upheld even during his travels as a human.

Only now, it served multiple purposes.

"Soon enough, Ölüm, I assure you," Vereor said, placing his cup down gently. His golden eyes scanned the room as yet more members entered- Revelin, Zigmund, and Tsurumi, soon followed by her new 'pet', the 'man' named Shade with his mutt, followed closely by Saito. There were only two missing- Fal'Navi and Zekvyr.

"Someone here will teach you- likely whoever isn't being sent off today," Vereor responded, though his eyes were now on the table instead of facing Saito, as if he was focused on something. An onyx gem on his collar seemed to gleam for a split second, almost unnoticeable as he closed his right eye simultaneously and kept it closed.

Ah, there you are.

"Which, of course, brings me to today's business," Vereor said as he gave his message to Zekvyr, his single golden eye now on the group. "First and foremost, since yesterday's assault, Wonderland is now crippled and will shortly fall to the Darkness. A number of travelers will be making their way to Wonderland shortly, and as such, we will be using it as a platform to announce ourselves from."

"For some of you, this will be your first opportunity to meet our Superior, Kyozuto," he said, finally opening his other eye as he finished his transmission. "Though it is not required to be there, we of course invite all of you along for the show. I believe Saito is familiar with what will be going on, but don't ruin the surprise."

"After that, there are a few other things that need tending to, but," he said, once more taking his tea cup in hand, blowing some of the steam away from the liquid. "Those can be addressed later."

---

Zekvyr. Not to interrupt a distant-family reunion, but I'd hoped to ask something of you- just a tid bit to keep in mind, since you are the most suited to such an endeavor.

The girl who you captured yesterday- Alice? You remember the light her heart gave out, I'm assuming. If you find any other women with such a heart, report to me their names and the worlds they are on.

Have fun with the elf. She has potential.

{Ignorance is bliss... until reality throws a Heartless siege at you.}

[Traverse Town : Inn ~ Green Room -> Lobby]

"He was a soldier, yes, quite a few ranks ahead of me, but he was also 5 years my senior," he explained, grabbing the Divine Fang and latching it onto his back before reaching for his belt pouch. "I'd like to think we were close, but if what everyone keeps saying is true... maybe we weren't."

"I won't lie- I'm not sure I could strike my brother down," Soryuju admitted, heading for the door, stopping as he reached for the handle. "But if Vereor is now in league with those dark-walkers, then he's no longer the man I once called 'brother'."

With those words, he opened the door and exited the room, heading toward the Lobby. Hopefully, the others would already be awake. The sooner they started off, the better.

[Third District : The Survivors' Apartment]

"Yes, I'm here," Aerith called back to Youni, working at the stove and oven to prepare breakfast- eggs and biscuits this morning. "Yuffie and Leon have already gone out, so it's just the two of us this morning."

The four of them, with the addition of Cid, stayed in an old, abandoned apartment in the Third District, just near the Second District entrance and over-looking the small square below. It was, of course, enchanted by Merlin's magics to be protected from any outside invasion.

This had been their home for the past 4 years, since their true home had fallen to the Heartless. They'd spruced up the place, of course, so it wasn't run down or decrepit. It was a bit cramped, with Cid and Leon sharing one room and the girls sharing the other, but they made do with what they could. They couldn't very well all claim a place for themselves- with each new, fallen world, Traverse Town became more populated. Sure, every now and then a new fragment of a world would make its way here, adding more space, but the influx of survivors was always higher.

"It was so nice to meet all of those new people last night, wasn't it?" Aerith asked, taking out the finished biscuits and placing them in a basket for breakfast. She'd only taken a side-long glance at Youni, so if something was bothering the girl, she hadn't noticed.

{Don't fear the dark... fear what's in it.}

[Maleficent's Castle : Courtyard]

If I wanted to come after you, you'd be dead already. Zekvyr thought. Condescending attitudes aimed at him were never taken well. He swallowed his pride, and any retort, and simply nodded, by all appearances deferring to her will. It was a rather anti-climatic attitude for a drow when meeting a surface elf. They were supposed to kill each other, or fight, or something; certainly not meet up and come to an understanding. He turned to go, giving the gorgeous fairy not another glance or thought. Now where was it–

The drow paused, cocked his head to the side.

Understood.

He considered the blood-red crystal that connected him to Vereor, the device that allowed all of his movements to be monitored, an object of control, and turned to the fairy again, viewing her in a new light. Both blood red. Potential indeed.

He thought of calling out to her before she had a chance to leave, but decided against it for the moment. No, she was already condescending enough. He smiled wryly; she was probably used to males calling out to her. He left the room and proceeded onward, totally ignoring her.

[Nymira]

{Life, death, it does not matter. All that matters is that they are mine.}

[Enchanted Dominion: Maleficent's Castle]

Little did the drow realize, but Nymira had already left, heels clicking once more as she headed back to the bookshelf she had found.

After a moment, the elf frowned. One book in hand, the rest scattered on the floor. The dark fae that lived here had a vast amount of knowledge in the dark arts, supposedly...and yet only one tome? Something was not right with this scenario.

Using her magic, she cast some necromancy around, letting the energy feel around for not only death, but also life. Of course, while she felt nothing around her, it was numb behind the the bookshelf, like something was blocking it....

Grabbing her whip, she uncoiled it and cast it at the bookshelf, the barb at the end snagging the wood, latching on. With a swift, hard tug, the bookshelf toppled over, and Nymira clicked her tongue.

Behind the bookshelf was a hole, a swirling black darkness blocking access to what appeared to be a room. Blocking Nymira's path for power and knowledge. And the necromancer did not like it in the least. Her magic dealt with life forces, with death, not darkness. Darkness was not her specialty.

"I do believe I now dislike this dark fae."

{Don't fear the dark... fear what's in it.}

[Maleficent's Castle : Courtyard]

He did not like leaving his sword. Zekvyr shouldered through another crowd of zombies, the dumb slow monsters lumbering around with no sense of direction or purpose. While, no, he didn't exactly enjoy touch them, he didn't really have much of a choice; he was, quite literally, surrounded by them. The next room was no less crowded, but the room after that started thinning them out. He only stopped to soak in his bearings when he was free of the undead.

This room was large, foyer like, with two sets of staircases leading up to a platform in the middle of the room. There they branched off, leading to different doors above. The dark pull he had felt earlier was enough to lead him to the castle, but now that he was inside, it was difficult to tell which passages he ought to take.

The familiarity of the weight of his sword on his back had him on edge. The fairy was not the mistress of this castle, a fae was, and there still existed in the cautious drow's mind the possibility of there being safeguards the true owner had put in place. They simply hadn't triggered them yet. It was not a good situation to be swordless in.

He cautiously took the right staircase.

[Nymira]

{Life, death, it does not matter. All that matters is that they are mine.}

[Enchanted Dominion: Maleficent's Castle]

Nymira had thrown books, snapped her whip, and even had a zombie shuffle towards the darkness, but all of it just bounced off the darkness barrier.

Pointing a finger, a bolt of red lighting shot out of the end of it, zapping the darkness, but still doing nothing to remove it. This really wasn't going well for the elf.

"All this way, and stopped by the darkness. Wonderful. Damn that fae."

{Don't fear the dark... fear what's in it.}

[Maleficent's Castle : Courtyard]

The room was barren and decayed. The window to the outside world showed a view of the other parts of the castle yet to be explored. Zombies clogged up most of the entrances. Zekvyr frowned. How many of those things did she need?

He doubled back, taking the other set of stairs and finding a similar sight. Centuries of living had taught him patience, and he diligently continued his search. He considered the time frame, and the possibility of the owner returning before he was done... this really wasn't the best position to be in.

[Enchanted Dominion: Maleficent's Castle]

Pouting. That was the only way to describe what Nymira was doing as she sat on the bookshelf, legs crossed, and watched her ghostly minions enter and exit the room, only to wail one word at her.

Room.

Be it something in the room, or the darkness itself, something was causing the ghosts to become muddled, unable to tell her more than that it was a room beyond the darkness barrier.

"If I ever get near that damn dark fae, my whip is going to have a lot of fun paying with her."

{Don't fear the dark... fear what's in it.}

[Enchanted Dominion: Maleficent's Castle]

The way forward was, simply put, up. Up stairs, up into the rooms above, up into another labyrinth of stone. He didn't have time for this. What possible options were there now? Wait for the fae to return? Beat it out of her? He didn't relish the idea... although there was no telling if she would ever return. The castle appeared abandoned.

It wasn't abandoned, though. No. There was someone else who had been here longer than he had, someone who knew it better than he did. He turned back, following his own steps, room, room, room, stairs, room, courtyard. Now to get to the balcony, and the fairy...

He found her sitting on a bookshelf with a look of dissatisfaction on her face. It didn't take him long to figure out what the trouble was; a dark portal, a barrier he assumed, was where the bookshelf had once been. Personally, he would have found the secret lever to open it without making a mess, but that obviously wasn't this fairy's style.

He leaned against the door frame and folded his hands over his chest, fighting the urge to smile at the less than fearsome position he found her in: fearsome necromancer pouting on a bookshelf.

"Having trouble?"

{Life, death, it does not matter. All that matters is that they are mine.}

[Enchanted Dominion: Maleficent's Castle]

Nymira straightened up, eyes shifting to the side without turning around. "One could say that, yes." Her foot started tapping before she stood, turning to face the drow. "Darkness is not in my...repertoire. You could make yourself useful and figure out a way through it, though. I'm sure whatever your looking for would be in there, considering this castle is pretty much empty from my own searching." Yes, she would be willing to have him help her out. After all, if you can't do something yourself, find someone else who can.

"Of course, that's if you can do it, technically. I do not know what your powers are beyond physical prowess."

[Traverse Town :: Inn :: Red Room ≫ Lobby ]

The geomancer smiled at the moogle, patting Moggie's head before carefully picking herself up off the bed. "Good morning Moggie. Sleep well?" Suzu asked as she turned on the small light by the bed.

It didn't take long for Suzu to get ready; she brushed the wrinkles out of her altered kimono and ran her fingers through her slightly disheveled hair. She grabbed her scythe as she opened the door, ushering out her brother and the moogle. She could already see Sory and their guardian in the lobby. "Oh, so you guys were up!"

~.~Thales~.~

”You can bend it and twist it… You can misuse and abuse it…
But even the gods cannot change the Truth.”

[Traverse Town ~.~ Traverse Town Inn ~.~ Blue Room]

"There's that word again... 'Heartless.' I wonder if these two know the group from last night," Thales thought as he eavesdropped on the conversation next door. Most of it was muffled and distorted, making some things incomprehensible. For the most part though, the Hellen was able to understand the gist of their conversation.

After a short while of the two going back and forth, Thales heard footsteps, then a door squeaking open and slamming shut. He hurried to the door to his room and cracked it open just enough to peek at whomever it was that came out of the room beside his.

A lean, lengthy man, about three inches taller than Thales, came into view as he walked down the hall. Just then, another door opened and closed as the group from last night also stepped into the hallway. Over joyous, the boy ran out of his room, forgetting all he had on was the sheet wrapped around his waist, pointed three fingers--thumb, index, and middle--at the group and shouted, "It's you guys again! I've been looking for you three all night!"

[Third District : Merlin's House]

"We'll get you a drink before we leave for the Gummi Hangar, then," he said, giving Nalo a smile. Everyone was beginning to stir at this point, with even Artemis speaking up. "Yes, parking a ship there is... possible, but has the potential for a lot of damage. Whoever was irresponsible enough to do that would be wise to avoid Cid for a few days."

"Now, you're all going to the same place, correct? If so, then we can simple head to the First District's restaurant to get you some breakfast," he explained, smiling.
