The dancer thief tried to prevent herself from scowling at the witch. If she had still been a feline, she might have tried to chance it to tear into her throat. As it was, the idea was forgotten when the beasts begin to pour into the building. She doesn't risk taking a moment to think. She can't. Instead she lashes out at the massing horde and strikes true.

Perhaps, for a moment, Zebulon actually felt bad that he was technically hitting a bunch of rabid teenagers, and so he pulled back and didn't quite manage to hit the animal with his shield.

He could almost hear Diryas' voice in his head telling him to perhaps not be so ... harsh.

They were actually being attacked, though, so Zebulon had to shake his head and steel himself. Preservation of the self is more important. The teenagers had gotten themselves into this mess anyway.

Current Form: Human
Character HP: 56/56
Damage: 0
Total Damage: 95

Character Name: Zebulon Castaneda
Brief description of character: Zebulon accompanies his even temper and clear mind with an oft-frustrating tendency to be snarky even in the most serious moments, needling people far past the point he should. Tagging along is a need for control, tempered by the fact that he does usually know what he's talking about. His normal ease seems lessened at current, though his control over himself is back now that he's removed enough from the conflict with the metal vulture.

Beth blinked at the other fox. Two of them? She would have pet the newcomer, but was reminded of the fact that it was a fox who initially caused her to turn and stayed her hand. She didn't know which Chosen this was, as she hadn't seen his transformation. She gave him a wary smile, eyes diverting to Ernst's face as he spoke.

"The cures are all Sylvia's, honestly." She admitted, smiling up at Ernst and straightening her legs to stand. Her expression changed to grave and concerned as Ernst mentioned how he had lost his senses as an animal. She would have offered some words of sympathy and companionship--she too, knew how powerful the animal instinct had been--but that was when the sorceress herself appeared in the flesh.

Beth gaped up, more than a little enraptured. It didn't matter that she was monologuing, that she had caused so many of them to shed their human forms, that she had intentionally hurt the people of the town in the name of natural majesty. She herself was quite taken with the ideas of her speech. Who didn't want to surround themselves with devoted servants in a manor hidden deep in the woods, away from the prying eyes and attacks of others? There was something to be said about having goals and desires, no matter the cost. As Asher had observed, it was easy to be what others wanted, provided you had no wants yourself. Far more difficult was it to stake out a land and an objective of one's own. And she hadn't exactly minded her time as a mouse....

She heard Ernst say something about moving Sylvia's shield, and it was then that she realized that Circe had set what remained of her goth sycophants on them. Instinct made her draw her whip from her pocket and she blinked at her hand moving on its own accord. Perhaps she would be a warrior yet.

It was instinct that carried her through her first attack, focusing on the boar Ernst had first hit. Despite her sympathetic leanings, her whip cracked with force against the boar's hide.

She hoped Misha, Brian, and Lex were having good luck in the battle; there was too much commotion for her to search them out, and taking her eyes from her opponent would have been disastrous.

Lex swiveled and twisted, giving happy sharp noises as they got the beast to chase them. They gave a sharp noise and twisted onto their back, raking their claws over the wolf’s belly. Another twist and they bolted through the mess, glancing around to see if everyone was alright.

Rooms were not ideal for ranged weapons, she found, again. The more the beasts clamored and the chosen retaliated, the less room she had to manuever. Even bending her wrist back to flick was becoming a challenge and it was no surprise when her next attack went wide, resulting in what was probably little more than a sting. She hoped Rose was having more luck than she was.

"s**t..." Sidney swore as they emerged from the kitchen... to come face to face with the witch herself. Arms full of Rob's things, including his big a**, ridiculous and useless (to her) sword, she was slow in getting her bow out.

The sword clanged as she dropped it and all of his things in a heap at her feet, fumbling through unslinging her bow and getting an arrow notched into it. A wolf lunged at her and Sidney yelped as she shot it, barely grazing it with her arrow as she went stumbling back.

((Ignore the roll! I'm a dum dum!))

When the animals appeared Tom was ready for them. At this point he didn't really care what they had to do to get through to Circe, he only hoped that these animals hadn't once been humans too. But they needed to get through them and it seemed that they wouldn't have enough cures to even see if the animals were really humans so fight it was! He swooped down at them, talons out, ready to scratch!

Beth pet her head again, attempting to sooth Sylvia’s upset over the shield, and oddly enough it worked. Sylvia hardly had to shake the thought off, as each stroke against her fur seemed to wipe away her anxiety. She took a steadying breath and reminded herself from the calm that she would be fine.

Then she saw the recognition on Ernst’s face when he found out that whatever tiny thing she was now, she was Sylvia. Her eyes were a little sad, but she appreciated the scratches from Ernst as much as she’d appreciated them from Beth. She was interested in what else he had to say before he trailed off, looking to the animal she’d heard approaching, who’d apparently stopped behind her – very pretty fox, who gave a small hop of a hello~ Sylvia sniffed at them instinctively and watched for any sign of recognition. She had no idea who it was, but she felt an affinity for the other animal – whether because they were familiar to her as a person, or because something in her small animal form was recognizing what she did not yet know (that they were both foxes), who knew. Either way, it was comforting to have another furry friend. She sat back a bit and offered what she hoped came across as the kind and curious face she was trying to convey.

When the question of the shield came up, Sylvia looked back to Ernst, scanning from foot to head. He was a tall man, but a wiry one, and she wondered how much strength was in his lean muscles. His shield was slung across his back – very handy, Sylvia was a bit jealous he had the height to do so – and which left his arms open to possibly carry other things. But other heavy things? Would that be too much? Luckily, he seemed confident in his ability to hold onto it for a while. Sylvia observed the offered hand and put a paw up on it, but did nothing more. She was hesitating. She was fairly sure he would lift her if she let him, and something about that seemed a little odd… oh well. She inwardly shrugged and leaned onto his hand. She was swiftly lifted to his shoulder, settling in against his neck and leaning her head against him for a moment when he hinted at, and seemed embarrassed by, his own transformation. He was right – they were lucky to still be thinking like themselves.

Circe entered before Sylvia could contemplate much more about it. She was gorgeous, and she looked quite impressive on her perch above, but wow was she a pain in the a**. The more she talked, the less attractive she became. What a presumptuous b***h. Sylvia decided she was going to have no problem trying to take her down a peg or two, even if she was a tiny thing – maybe it would give her the advantage of a sneak-attack.

The woman was a pain, but damn did her minions have good timing. The slew of turned goth-wannabes hurled themselves out at the Chosen with impressive determination, and Sylvia had to wonder if they were themselves, or if she was manipulating them somehow. She couldn’t imagine that they’d all wanted to be animals, but she supposed she could be wrong.

She didn’t have a lot of time to think these things through, though, as Ernst swiftly stood – man was he tall. The view was amazing and would have been great if the situation were different. Sylvia ducked when she felt him go for his shield behind her, and braced herself as he rushed forward into a boar. Damn. He was good with his shield. But this was a terrible place for her to be, and she knew it – it was only a matter of time before she fell, or was squished, or somehow got Ernst in trouble. So when a large cat was making its way past, Sylvia launched herself off of Ernst’s shoulder. She tried not to scrape him on the way to attempting to shred the large cat, jaws open as she landed on its back and unleashed her claws.

Ah - there was an opening there, and there was Sylvia, along with another tiny creature who he didn't know.

He was a little afraid he'd attack one of his allies, but the problem was quickly solved by waiting a little bit, for one of them to attack him. Even if it wasn't wearing eyeliner, a Chosen would never attack another Chosen - right? It was a tiny, glaring prairie dog - and Ernst slammed it with a tower shield to the face.

It...definitely wasn't gonna be coming for him. With any luck it wasn't dead, but he had more to worry about for now.

Lex padded through the carnage, and there was a lot of carnage. They chattered at the goth youth changed into an animal? This was a tad bit sad really, before continuing forward. They perked slightly and ran, jumping up and bit down on the tail of a large cat that had a tiny fox ontop to distract the larger animal from shredding one of their friends?

Lex was rather sure the fox was a chosen. No makeup and wasn’t Zan…. But they were so fluffy and cute.

The Chosen have done some damage to Circe's ranks -- some of the animals looking stunned, confused, upset or alarmed. Some, in contrast, seem enraged, fighting all the harder against the onslaught.

They are the immediate danger, but not the only danger. Focused on the battle, it seems, no one has had the wits to look up -- where vines lace in around beams, leaves hanging loose, their ends twitching just faintly. And now, finally, they unwind, three reaching down to each grab at one Chosen and hoist them up off the ground, into the air, thorns raking against their skin [or fur] in the process.

The first grabs Ernst, those angry thorns dealing 15 damage, and ruining his pants.

The second grabs Ed, dealing 18 damage that is only somewhat absorbed by his thick fur.

The final one grabs Lex, hoisting the creature aloft and dealing 16 damage.

They do not let go. Instead they hold the three aloft, swaying faintly in the breeze.

____________________________

OOC:

Battle can now continue as per usual! However, Ernst, Ed and Lex can't escape until each of them has done 10 damage to the vines holding them aloft.

Yeah, even despite Ernst's height he hadn't been looking up. And he definitely should have been, because it was too late when he finally did see the long, thick vine fall into sight, blocking the prairie dog he'd been engaged with from view. He'd have run but no one expected prehensile vines, and no one especially expected them to curl around Ernst and lift him up.

Well, he hadn't expected that, anyway. They were thick and thorny and basically shredded the remnants of his pants - which had been fairly expensive, thank you! He was left with a pair of black silken briefs with their own floral motif, which looked surprisingly intact, because they'd come from his backpack. He'd had the foresight to bring at least a few extra pairs of underwear on the journey, after the poop inundation of their previous trip.

He was too high up to do much of anything to the crowd of animals below, so he began hacking at the vines with his shield in determination. He needed to get back down there and help his allies.

Despite her strong start, Beth was feeling a bit sluggish and wasn't able to attack again before Circe's ill will showed itself again. Suddenly, Ernst, a bear, and--her heart leapt into her throat--Lex were picked up by vines which wrapped around them, pricking and holding them suspended, helpless. "Lex! Ernst! Hang on!" She called out, taking a few steps towards them. But her way was blocked by another animal. She wasn't able to see much before her whip flicked out to attack. It would seem her friends would have to deal with their binds on their own.
