Reaching the castle Hailey doesn't hesitate as much or as long as she did the last time. Rushing in, she grabbed three algae balls and immediately threw them at the first merperson she saw.

Hailey Redgrave, first year Ravenclaw at Harry Potter Guild of Gaia
Since she didn't knock the merperson out she quickly threw her third and final algae ball at the merperson again hopefully before it can retaliate.
She succeeds and knocks the merperson out before they can do anything! Out of algae balls Hailey quickly heads out of the castle and back toward the campgrounds. Stats:

Helen and the merman were so focused on their battle that they wound up further from the others. There was nowhere to run. The merman and Helen stood staring at each other, just daring for the other to attack first. Suddenly, the merman lunged. With nowhere to hide, the merman was able to break through the weak shield she hastily casted.
