I beat him the last time without leveling up thoughout the game got my matiria the first time at gold saucer final attack matieria and also got the pheinix matiera paired together and i got omnislash for cloud first time to saucer beat emerald in 15 min =-P and not even that i dident have the under water matiera so i had a 20 min time limit and I dident save the game from the begining (lack of memory card) so if I died had to start over so it was all or nothing and when I beat him I went out and bought a new memory card and saved the game I cloud was kept at minimal life my other charicters I had attacking him so he would limit every round
THAT WAS HARD!!!!!! I kinda cheated with w-item as well (select an item then dont select annother then go back then reselect and you get one for each while game is frozen and Regain and opening my cd lid and after the next magic spell the game freezes but you still get hp to refill my players Health)
so if that counts hahaha

Ive beaten Emerald in 4 attack turns before. Emerald got one strike in against Vincent in my party of Cloud, Vincent, and Cid, and then it died soon after.

Well, I assume it's Magic Counter. Everyone I've talked to calls it Counter, but I find that unlikely as Counter is an Independent materia, so pairing it with something would have no affect. Right? I'll have to try that this time 'round. If I decide to level Barret up, which is unlikely.

(get final attack materias at battle square and equip it with all of your chars. >turbo ether and x-potions are very useful and so as megailixir. you will need tons of megaelixir. (it was fine with me to use all my megaelixir because i dont really need it for the final battle. i can beat final battle with no swet with my 4x9999 each attack) i used hero drikns and other stuffs to max out all i need. - put underwater materia to cloud. or barrette becuase his ungarmax does more damage than omnislash - i got 3 mastered 2xcut materias to i can attack 4X with all of my chars with 9999 damage. - limit breaks are omnislash, ungarmax, and stardust. (my chars are cloud, barrette, and red xiii) - keep your life high and all chars alive. phoenix can be useful. - keep healing, save one char to do healing and 2 attacks. winning this means having the "earth harp" go to Kalm and find the house with the old man who trades rare items for good items that will help you a lot. trade your earth harp to get the three master materias. skill master materia magic master materia summon master materia ::::::::::::::::::::ruby:::::::::::::::::::: -kill your 2 weak characters and let one fight. having 2 or 3 chars on field wil lead to failure. - attack hp absorb materia to summon master materia. - keep using knights of rounds (because hp absorb is attached to summon master materia, you will regain your hp everytime you use it) aprx 9000hp absorbed at least - keep using mimic and you will keep doing this for free mp. now let's do my way. i used no gamefaqs so i got a longer fight but easy -i let my 2 other chars die -master summon materia+hp absorb -keep using knights of rounds and mp turbo. (mp turbo is easy to get by morhing monsters.) sometimes i rather use elixir -keep repeating untill ruby is dead. i used barrette because the ungarmax did great amount of mass damage. (the risk of using limit break is missing your opportunity to heal your self but you an use it if you want = the battle getslonger) - extras > you can use haste fo be faster. >speed is important so try to increase your speed by using speed plus >speed source morph monster for speed is: poodler = found @ sunken ship at the small room behind the save poit yes, this is the best place to find lots of speed source. i hope that i helped you guys ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: if you guys want more help you can send me msgs. i reply to all who needs help who asks. feel free to add me as friend if you want, im a pure ff7 addict so no problemo. So you musta got countered a crapload of times against Ruby, since KotR triggers an auto-counter. the point of hp absorb connected to master summons materia s to heal ur self even when u get hit. using rounds of knight makes ur life easier. wink there are chances the u will also need to use some elixir but u wont b using much. i beat the game with nothing but my own startegies coz i nvr had an internet at that time. XD not even a guide. but this strategy worked well. you may have had other strategies but i was not really that great at my time. still, i beat the game 2x and killed runy and emerald. don't laugh coz my strategies realy take a long time XD but hope i gave a good plan if u guys dont wanna try my long term strategy. XD haha.

Oh! And you reminded me of something. Have Underwater Materia equipped to Barret, and his ultimate weapon, Missing Score. It's power is decided on the the total amount of AP of the materia Barret's carrying, and Underwater materia has no limit. So, you could get about a million AP on it, and every hit done by Ungarmax should hit for maximum damage. I FINALLY won Magic Counter from those darn chocobo races, and I'm currently getting lots of AP on it. Once I kill s'more enemies with Vincent (I'm working on his Death Penalty weapon, and it still bites monkeys -_-), I'm going to start leveling up Barret. Oh! And can someone give me advice? I was thinking about how I need to get as many Magic Counter+Mime pairs as possible. But, I also need an Underwater Materia. I'm not going to bother with Final Attack+Phoenix, as, if this goes well, I won't need it. So, what armor has the most linked slots? Anyone know?

I've beaten both Emerald and Ruby. I didn't like the fight with Ruby because he always kills two of your characters and I found him to be much more difficult then Emerald. Emerald is pretty easy if you have everyone equipped with Mime and one character equipped with W-Summon and Knights of the Round.

Ruby is very easy with the correct materia combination, but I felt for Emerald that you needed some luck. Occasionally while fighting him my timing would be off and he would use emerald beam followed up by his shoulder lasers then air tam stomp. Not very enjoyable.

I found Emerald to be like fighting a Mu when youre level 100. Its not a challenge at all after a while. Ruby though, I still have a bit of trouble every once in a while, but I like to experiment with him more than anything. I always have a save file right at him so I can fight him anytime.

What kind of materia combination do you use when fighting Ruby? I'll try anything to make that fight a little more easier. The best I've found is W-Summon and Hades+KOtR. If he's not stopped when you attack him, he'll do Ultima. And Ultima is not very nice. Dazers stop him as well, but not for as long as Hades (at least, seems like it doesn't). And of course, HP Plus is always lovely. But, BE SURE to kill off 2 of your characters before you get into battle with him. Because he'll happily do it himself, but might also end up killing your third character, too. EDIT: I am currently experimenting with the Ungarmax method. While I haven't gotten Barret's strength up enough to do much damage, I do know that equipping 7 Counter+Mime pairs, and doing Ungarmax first thing, does result in Barret doing 7 Ungarmaxes when he's hit without Ruby being able to interrupt them. And with max strength, that's killing Ruby in one turn. How nice is that?

Regular physical attacks, including Limit Breaks, do very little damage to Ruby. Ive learned that through hours of grueling retardedness with that boss.
