To answer your questions, whenever you are calculating for attack for the heatmor, the fumble or -1 will be applied to his accuracy roll. So say you rolled a 11, he rolled a 13 for his attack (we'll use incinerate as an example), the calculation would be [13-1]-11 + [12-7] = 6 DMG When two people roll the same number, the defense will always win. Because attacks only land as long as you roll above the number that your opponent rolled. And right now the Heatmor's capture rate is 20.
The Heatmor had somehow managed to avoid the attack despite his lack of effort. That was... odd. Shaking his head, he then closed his eyes and charged trying to hit the Froakie with a Tackle attack!
The Cubone let out a groan. Were the young'ns getting more stupid by the generation or what? He had made it very obvious to the kid. Now he had to sit down on the ground and look at him? Great. ">Stupid whippersnapper. Now I gotta teach you a lesson.<" The Cubone raised his bone to try and whack the boy sharply on the head with it. If this wasn't a show of aggression, he didn't know what else to possibly do to get through this kid's thick skull! It was an obvious show of fight or flee.
The Surskit had been trudging along the bog frustrated when a smile lit up his face. It was the kid who had kicked him. Revenge would be sweet. The pokemon stepped into the path blocking it. This was going to be another battle he wouldn't forget anytime soon!

Tao watched as the club was raised. He sighed stressfully almost sounding like he was in pain. He slowly began to move his body out of he way of the attack, not showing any intention of leaving. He looked at the cubone grimly. He was not leaving, and that was that, and he'd be more than happy to wait until the cubone got tired of trying to convince him otherwise.
The Cubone actually looked mad and surprised he had missed. But the anger won out. This kid was making a fool of him! The Cubone once again charged to slam into him with his bone club, letting out an enraged cry! This was his home, his cave and no way was he letting a little kid show him up!
Capture rate is 17+ for the Cubone! +1 Injury to Tao!
Rage won out over the stubborn human as he landed a loud cracking blow to the kid. The Cubone still looked furious. Did the kid learn his lesson and was he going to leave or would this fight continue?
Tao felt the blow connect with his brain. He stiffened at the blow as blood began to drip down his face. He made a feeble attempt to get up but dropped to his knees with dizzyness. His breath became raggedy with the effort. He looked down at his dripping blood and curled into a ball holding his head. He had nowhere to go to get home...
Alright, so since you seem a bit stuck let me explain about retreating. You know that you can gain injuries from pokemon. At this rate and if you continue to get hit and suffer 5/5, your character will be knocked out, kicked off the island and lose something from them. Now retreating wise, you will start counting backwards. If you reach the shore of the first ring where you landed, there will be the boat that originally took you from the pokemon center to the island waiting to take you back.
The Cubone looked more irritated then ever. He didn't feel sorry for the kid. He had warned the kid to leave before attacking. It wasn't his fault the human was being stubborn. He held his bone threateningly trying to get the kid to either retreat or fight!
Tao remained penitent and unmoving. He was in no position to move forward or back. He would certainly not put an injured pokemon on the front line, especially, it being his last one. "I can't fight you...I can't turn back... I've come too far from home..." Tao clenched his fist. He looked at the cubone, "I'll leave if you escort me. I'm not strong enough to make it to where I need to go." He hope the pokemon would understand. It was his only real chance to get out of this place.
The Cubone looked at the human. Pitiful. He had heard the kid's words but aimed to hit him one more time with the bone club! It seems his words hadn't affected the Cubone at all.
Tao attempted to roll out of the way of the club. This was getting him nowhere. He wondered why it wouldn't listen. The pokemon would no doubt chase him off if it could. But where to go...? He had to think about that.
The Cubone sighed after hitting the kid again with his club. The boy hadn't been able to manage to avoid. A shame really. It meant he wasn't worthy. He pointed to the entrance of the cave for the kid to leave and would've pushed him that way when he froze. A noise far off echoed and he looked confused. Great. Time for him to leave. The Cubone ran off, disappearing into the distance. It would look like Tao was free to move forward or go back the way he came!
I know that I'm supposed to get back to shore to retreat but isn't the ferry ride all the way at the foggy forest? Wouldn't that need some effort to be traveled to?
Tao staggered to his feet. He wandered aimlessly back toward the cave entrance. He doubt he'd make it back to where he could seek medical attention. Perhaps, he'd meet the cubone again sometime...Hopefully, he'd be stronger then. It didn't matter. He was tired. And shambled toward the mouth of the cave. [1/20] inj:[3/5]
This time Alexander would see a Lotad. But the pokemon simply waved and then wandered off. If Alexander looked closely, he would see he had reached the shore! There waiting by the docks was the boat and pokemon that had brought him over here. He was free to leave the island and the boat would take him to the pokemon center!
