"I thought we were baking?" Michael asked, turning to Maia. He'd been excited at the prospect of helping bake something himself.

"We can do both," Toby said quickly, "I mean we can get sick but we can't get fat, so who cares?"

Michael cocked his head. "Sushi? Isn't that Asian?"

"Japanese, mostly," Toby nodded, "Raw fish, shellfish, veggies, wrapped in rice..."

Michael wrinkled his nose. Toby laughed.

"Okay," the werewolf said, "Maybe next time. Let's bring him to Barclay." He turned to Maia, smiling and silently asking her opinion. Barclay's was basically a steakhouse, though there was seafood as well, and there was no strict dress code to match the sometimes elegant or straight-up fancy food. It was a special-occasions sort of place and predictably rather expensive, but they had a son and Michael had whitelighted, so why not?

"We are," Maia promised, and looked to Toby. She smiled. Sweets couldn't hurt them, besides stomach aches. "We can do anything you'd like," she added. She laughed at Michael's expression and shook her head. She'd felt the same way when Toby had suggested it once they'd gotten to Arizona. "Don't worry," she said. "I won't let him make you eat eel."

Maia nodded at the suggested restaurant. Michael would have more options there, and he'd like it. And! They had plenty to celebrate. They had a son, he'd be coming home soon, and Michael had whitelighted. He was so much happier now, it was beautiful to see. "Ready to go?" She asked.

In a moment Michael's clothing had changed. Though his hair style was still a bit out of the times, he wore a fashionable buttoned shirt and a pair of slack. Toby looked him up and down. "Nice."

"Thank you."

"Do you want to try to drive with us or do you want to possess us real quick?" Toby asked. The idea of walking around with Michael and suddenly having him disappear worried the man. The best they could do was pretend that he had never been there, and while it wasn't dangerous for entities or the bureau exactly, it-- well. Was only mildly embarrassing, he supposed. If the ghost wanted to walk, let him walk. As it turned out, that was what Michael seemed to want to do.

"I'd like to come with you. I can't eat like this, not without upsetting staff. I'll have to jump in at some point, but... do you mind?"

"No, not at all! Come on." Toby nodded out into the open and started off toward the exit.

"You look nice, Michael," Maia complimented the ghost, smiling. She was always impressed with his ability to blend in. She followed Toby towards the exit. "On the weekend, you could stay over again," she invited. She'd be able to take him shopping, he always seemed to like that. "Maybe go to the mall? They have a food court with a lot of food Toby says is terrible. I haven't tried it. The icecream is good too--" she looked to Toby. "We could take Kevin with us, maybe?"

The kelpie had so far avoided any attempt Maia made to take him school shopping. He seemed to hate the very idea of clothes shopping. Maybe if Toby invited him? Or they mentioned Michael was going too?

Maia had a habit of inviting people to do things without Toby's input, this he supposed was just a side effect of her friendly nature. He was well used to it by now, and just smiled and shook his head. It wasn't like guests were a bother.

"It is terrible," he insisted then, "They just don't care. The only thing that tastes the same as anywhere else is McDonalds, and that's because it's McDonalds!"

Michael wrinkled his nose again, then added: "I'd like to see Kevin."

Maia was grinning, taking Toby's hand and leaning up to kiss his cheek. "I know, you told me when we came here the first time." She'd been spoiled with homecooked food, too. Nothing ever seemed to taste as good as it did at home.

"Do you think Kevin would like to stay over for the weekend?" She looked up at Toby. "We can--" wait. Had they introduced Kevin to the baby yet? They'd have to do that tomorrow. "We can take them somewhere fun."

"I'm sure he would," Toby agreed with a nod. Kevin had his own room and everything, and he did seem to like staying over even if they weren't doing anything particularly interesting.

When they reached the elevator that led outside, Michael stayed solid and watched, listened, felt the vibrations. They reached the orchard outside and he stopped. He could smell it. He could smell the oranges. His mouth fell open slightly as he stood still. People eyed him, the unfamiliar face, and then eyed Toby and Maia.

Maia turned when Michael stopped. Was he alright? Maybe it was a bit overwhelming, white lighting and then coming out in the same day. "Now you can stay out longer without getting tired," she said, and smiled at him. He could see anything he wanted now. Go anywhere he wanted, and he wasn't just a passenger.

"I'm glad we're celebrating this."

Michael wasn't entirely paying attention when Maia spoke to him. He comprehended that she'd said something only after she'd said it. Nevertheless, he was smiling as he turned his attention to her. "I can smell them."

Toby smiled. "Come on. The city doesn't smell so great, but we might as well use the senses we have, right?" He reached an arm out behind Michael to guide him on and the ghost followed.

The trip through the city was nice, but Maia was looking forward to the restaurant. She was sure Michael would like it. "Ready?" She asked. Toby had volunteered for possession this time. He seemed so much more solid. So much happier.

"Tomorrow you can surprise Kevin," she said.

"Surprise him?" Michael asked.

He had found the ride rather pleasant. He had been feeling everything with his own ethereal nerves, though how he wasn't sure, and the world seemed somehow brighter. When they came near enough to the restaurant that he had to go (though he could smell cooking meat and roasting vegetables, he noticed) he relented and disappeared into Toby's body.

They approached the hostess' stand.

"How many today?" the hostess asked.

"Three," Toby said, not paying much attention, then waved his hand and shook his head, "Sorry, two."

"Follow me, please?"

The place was dim between tables but well-lit above the clean linen tablecloths. A candle flickered at every table. The silverware was shimmery. The conversation was warm but not obtrusive. Michael thought that they had chosen well.

"He hasn't seen you since you whitelighted, he'll be happy for you."

The rest of the ride was nice. When they got into the restaurant, Maia took Toby's hand, and waited for the hostess to show them to their table. It was a nice place. Really quite beautiful, with the candle lit tables.

Dinner went well, and Michael had been pleased to help Toby over-eat. He had baked in his own ectoplasm, testing how long he could go and how much he could handle without weakening and finding that he had no issue. It seemed like white-lighting had benefits even if you didn't cross over, though he couldn't imagine that many people did as such.

It was during the following work day that he sought Kevin out, and though he was solid enough to handle objects, he passed through the wall to enter the building. The receptionist gaped. Michael smiled and waved and walked to Kevin's room to knock on the door. He was enjoying the sensation of physically walking again!

Kevin answered the door with a smile. Apparently Toby had adopted the baby that'd been staying in the nursery. Maybe he'd come to introduce them? --oh, no it was Michael! "You look different," he observed. "Want to come in?"

Michael looked more solid somehow. What'd happened to him? "Do you want to play video games?" He asked

People had been saying that, even Toby, but Michael wasn't sure himself. He'd looked in the mirror and still seen himself.

"Certainly," the spirit said, and offered a little bow as he entered. Kevin's apartment looked different too, but Michael was beginning to realize that it was probably only he who had changed. "Of course, we can. I'd like to see what I can do." He clasped his hands behind his back and smiled to Kevin. "My white light came back yesterday. Do I really look different?"
