Dampfoot had been listening to the talk of Apprenticeships and Kithood from a safe distance, abandoning her grooming to watch the small crowd through half closed eyes.
She watched as Silvertail approached the rest of the group, studied her affection toward Moonkit, examined Sandpaw's encouraging ways.
Slowly, carefully, Dampfoot stretched out her lithe body so that her limbs were fully extended and her muscles fell lax.
Her stomach hit the damp ground and she instinctively fluffed up her fair against the brisk winds.
Dampfoot's muzzle rested squarely between her outstretched forelimbs and she sighed.
Still vaguely listening to the conversation, Dampfoot shut her eyes, whiskers quivering, allowing herself to fall into distant, cloudy memories of her own Kithood.

"Of course." Silvertail answered matter-o-factly but with a smile. For Moonkit , anything may be too exciting. "Sure. It is understandable to be excited and anxious over things, but i've found that you are respected more if you handle those types of things with patience and thoughtfulness. Always think things through. When you have a mentor, things like that will be more clear." She looked down at Moonkit with bright, caring, eyes.
"Sandpaw it is almost halfway to sunhigh. Should you wake Torrentstar? I heard about your assesment..." She said with a thoughtful glance in Sandpaw's direction.

Sandpaw nodded but didn't get up. An awakened Torrentstar was worse than a Torrentstar you let sleep in.

Moonkit simply sat silently. She understood. After hearing this, she would try to be as patient as possible, but she knew it wouldn't work for long. Moonkit looked up at Sandpaw, then to Torrentstar's den. "Well, if he doesn't wake up soon, you may just have to go on patrol by yourself." Moonkit pointed out.

"Well I'll go wake him up then, no use in everyone letting him sleep and have him cranky later. Don't worry it's ok if he gets mad at me. The big bully'll get over it." Silvertail winked at Sandpaw as she rose to go over to Torrentstar's den. "Can you just keep an eye on her for a moment for me? I don't want her sneaking out of the camp behind our backs." She whispered to Sandpaw before leaving. She glanced over at Moonkit with an amused smile as she watched her curious eyes searching their faces trying to figure out what was said.
"Be patient Moonkit." She deserved some type of excitement. She knew that she was bored of being cooped up in the camp all the time. Maybe they would go for a walk later, just for a change in scenery.

Sandpaw nodded with a smile on his face. He doubted Moonkit would leave, but Silvertail had asked him to.

Moonkit hadn't heard what Silvertail had whispered, but she could take a pretty good guess. Looking up at Sandpaw, she mewed, " She asked you to watch me, didn't she?" She didn't need an answer, because she knew that she must have. Sometimes she felt that Silvertail didn't trust her. Alas, it was only a few days before Moonkit would be, officially, eligible for her apprenticeship.

"Maybe, maybe not," Sandpaw replied. To him it didn't seem that Silvertail didn't trust Moonkit, but that she didn't want her to break the warrior code. Sneaking out of camp would rile Torrentstar's fur almost as much as rouges.

Silvertail sighed as she walked away. Alas more than not trusting Moonkit and more than not wanting to upset Torrentstar, she wanted Moonkit to be safe. She was not looking forward to Moonkit's apprentice ceremony as much as Moonkit did. Apprenticeship meant free rein to leave when she wanted and go pretty much all over the place. Silvertail would not be able to keep a constant eye on her and that thought worried her. But she didn't let that show through. She just wore her usual cheery smile and mewed a warning at the leader's den before entering. She was a bit obnoxious at times but not rude. When there was no answer, she entered the den hesitently and found Torrentstar sleeping soundly. She wondered why he was so tired.
She mewed softly trying to wake him without angering him too much or alarming him. Either one could result in her death...

Moonkit watched as Silvertail hesitantly walked into the den. Silently, she looked from the den, Sandpaw, and the entrance to the camp. After being locked up in camp for a while, she felt the urge to leave. She slowly got up and began to pad towards the entrance. "Don't worry," She called back to Sandpaw. "I'm only going to watch for any... enemies." With that, she sat down by the entrance, her tail flicking as she waited for the chance to pounce on anything that moved.

Moonkit knew she was being watched, but why did she need to be? Although she was only a kit, she would never disobey the Warrior code unless the circumstances called for it. Seeing as this was not one of those circumstances, she wasn't going to leave. Even so, she simply sat there and waited.
