This elf was smarter than Luca had suggested! He seemed to know a lot about everything. At least about nymphs. She held out a noodle for Rosie when she sat on the couch next to Lori.
"Oh, I see," she nodded in understanding. "So you guys protect people who couldn't survive on their own. That's really nice. When do you want to do the interview? Not today."

Rosie took the noodle with a happy smacking of her jaws as she slurped it in.
"Yeah. Sort of." Lori nodded. "Oh, no. There's papers and things, some other day. We can plan ahead of time."

Toby came to Kevin's door with the sort of carelessness a man did while planning a vacation. They were a bit early to consider New England this year, but why not? It should be special. Lori had politely declined and Toby wasn't entirely sure Kevin would want to come, but it would be good to inform him anyway, right? He knocked and rocked back and forth from his toes to his heels while he waited.

Kevin answered the door with a smile. It broadened when he saw who it was. "Toby! Hey!" He greeted happily. "Do you want to come in? I was going to see if Michael wanted to come play video games, but we should instead! Want to play Pac man?"

"Sure," Toby said and stepped inside. He smiled to Kevin. "I'll still stay and play, but I wanted to ask you a question." He invited himself to sit on the couch. "Would you want to go on vacation with Maia and me? Dari and Cody too."

Kevin sat next to him and offered him a controller. He listened to the question before grinning. "Yeah, I'd like to go!" He said. "I've never been on vacation before." He turned the console on.
"Where are we going?" He asked.

Well, that had been easy. Of course Kevin was bound to agree to pretty much anything if a friend asked it, and on paper Toby was his guardian. Maybe he shouldn't have expected the worst.
"New England. We go to see the snow every year, and we thought we might spend Christmas this time." He toed off his shoes and took the controller before pulling his legs up into a crossed position on the couch.

"New England?" The kelpie echoed, looking thoughtful. "That's pretty far away from here, isn't it?" He asked. His eyes lit up. "I've never seen snow!" He revealed. "What's it like?"
"Have you gotten any better at avoiding the ghosts?" He asked. "Blinky always gets me!"

"Cold and white and... it really doesn't sound all that great to describe, but it's nice. I grew up with snow and we don't get so much out here."
The game started up and the conversation flipped again. "I used to be pretty good. I haven't played in a long time, though. Is it always the red one? I don't think they're actually any different. Are you sure it's not Michael?" He knew the ghost liked to spend time with the kelpie. It was his only real interaction with youth nowadays.

Cold and white? That didn't sound very fun! ...But maybe Toby was bad at describing things. "Kind of like icecream?" He guessed. He liked icecream.
He gasped. "It might be!" He said. "I don't know... it's always Blinky. It follows me really close and then when I'm almost to the pill it gets me!"

"Sort of," Toby said with a shrug, "Just not creamy. Have you ever had a Sno Cone? It's sort of like that, without the syrup." If he hadn't, they were definitely going to the fair in the upcoming year and getting the kelpie one.
He whipped out his phone, putting the controller on the couch between them, and started Googling the ghosts. After a few moments, he said "Huh! It looks like they are programmed with different strategies! Imagine that."

A sno cone without the syrup? He couldn't say he'd ever tried one. He shook his head. "I'll have to try one," he said. "We'll see when we get there!" He smiled and picked up the controller, selecting the game.
"Really?" He asked. "That must be why they spread out! I guess it's not Michael, after all. Sometimes Michael plays video games with me though. I think he likes them."

"Does he?" Toby asked. It made sense, of course.
"He doesn't have many real friends. Most people are afraid of him, or treat him as an It and not a He. He loses himself sometimes, but he's not a bad guy. I've gotten to know him better lately and I imagine he must be pretty lonely."

"He goes inside them and plays them with me. Sometimes he's a boss. Sometimes he's an npc. Sometimes he turns the game all around! It's cool! We should play with him sometime."
The kelpie paused. He set the controller down. "You and Michael are the only people I really talk to. I hope he knows I'm his friend. I don't really know how to be a good friend yet, but I'm trying." Being friendly was hard, sometimes!

"That sounds pretty cool. We'll have to do that." it sounded like something Dari might have fun with too, really. He could only play the same game or level so many times.
"He does know, and I think you're a pretty good friend already."
