♞▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬₭night Øf ₲rief▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬♞ Ønce a ₭night... Ⱥlways a ₭night. Ønce a ₦ightmare... Ⱥlways a ₦ightmare.
 ♞▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Ðarragh Ø'฿reian▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬♞ Grief lifted his head slowly as he was summoned to Thought, and he looked over to the other from Airbrón's back. He didn't seem to respond immediately, as he sat there and cried further, his totem shifting her wings a little and examining Thought without even seemingly looking at him. After that moment's pause, it was a small shift in atmosphere.
Grief shifted off of his mount, giving Airbrón a small glance as if asking her if it would be safe to approach. Using his handkerchief, he blew his nose some more as he approached Thought. When he was close enough, the Knightmare knelt in front of the one who beckoned for him, bowing his head.
"Sorrow, and Hopelessness... I am Grief. May any tears you shed be brought upon by something painful in your heart, as opposed to Happiness, which can so easily be taken away... What do you need of me, Newer master of Thought?" As he spoke, he kept his head bowed, and Airbrón stepped up behind and to the side of him, just in range if her Ex-Knight needed her. The sadness hung around both of them, and had only grown stronger as they had gotten closer, almost like an invisible heavy fog around them.

((whoo!)) Glo heard her visitor coming long before she could see them. She continued to groom, waiting for them to appear and was delighted by their timing because she'd just finished up when they came into view. She peered down and as soon as she got a good whif of them, her interest was further perked. So this was one of the Knights that The Nightmare was fighting against. The ones who had been charged with protecting Thought and Memory. How odd that they had failed so completely. She was curious, though, as most cats were and continued to watch. Was that a snake? How wonderful! Generally, she kept her forms towards the feline side, but dreamers were afraid of snakes too, weren't they? What an intriguing thought....she'd have to practice. Glo took her time studying the Knight's companion, fascinated, despite the distant thought that if she were discovered, she'd have to move quickly. As it was, she remained undiscovered and the Knight and her companion disappeared leaving Glo alone. She purred loudly, oh what fun, fun, what fun!
~~~
Her prey awoke below her, disappearing, leaving behind a lovely gift. She'd been fortunate, two dreamers in one night! By the time she'd finished feeding, she was stuffed to the rafters! She gurgled a laugh, Rafters, she thought, guffawing. What followed was her customary search for a secure location to groom. It was during that time that someone spoke in her head. Her ears perked and she lifted and then tilted her head. She knew that voice, though she didn't hear it often, in fact, she rarely if ever heard it at all! How interesting! Standing, she jumped down from her perch and was moving just as soon as her paws touched the ground.
Despite being full and feeling no real nead to shift into her larger form, she did so anyway; she'd get to her destination faster.
As predicted, it didn't take long and she shrank down into her small, black feline form and minced her way onward. She wasn't the first to arrive, but she didn't really care. She wasn't chasing anyone so being first didn't fall into one of her top priorities. For now, she was very curious, very fascinated. She caught sight of him and lout a delighted chirping noise, breaking into a leaping run. She ignored the others for now and went straight to Thought, threading her sleek body around his legs, chirping and purring happily.
(( If Knights are wondering what to do, I bet Giyari's Knight would like someone to hang out with. ^_~ ))
Thought hm'd non-committally at Mizu's comment, his attentions focused towards the bleak stranger.
It took the other nightmare a moment or two, but he approached slowly, sniffling and blowing his nose. Thought took the time to dismount from his wolf, to face this new being face-to-face.
"Sorrow, and Hopelessness... I am Grief. May any tears you shed be brought upon by something painful in your heart, as opposed to Happiness, which can so easily be taken away... What do you need of me, Newer master of Thought?" Grief said as he knelt before him.
"Well that would explains his mood and mine," Thought mused, as Grief's presence had a way to depress his mood. "And newer master? I wonder what that means..."
Putting those thoughts aside, he addressed the newcomer. "Rise, Grief. There is no need to kneel before anyone except our master of nightmares."
About to open his mouth to speak, a chirping noise interrupted him. A small black feline-esque form came running toward him and started to rub against his legs. He smiled.
"Ah, another has come. And you are...?" he asked. He could take a guess, but it was much more polite to ask.
"But -" he continued, suddenly remembering he was still addressing Grief, " - I do ask of you to ride with me. To seek the master, and then to continue his plan to assault the waking world." Thought grinned again, but this time it was a less pleasant smile.
 ~Mizu~ The Drowning Nightmare Whats wrong? You can't breathe? Mizu cleared his throat "Speaking of that plan..." he said "When are we going to get on with it?" Mizu had been waiting a very long time for the assault and was itching to get on real world soil again. Oh that's right, you're drowning. Have fun!
Lifting his head slowly, Grief's eyes examined the feline-Nightmare at Thought's feet, before he looked up to Thought himself. Nodding slightly, he slowly stood, doing as told. He stood at attention, as much as he could at the very least, as he felt the cold trickle of tears starting up again, though he made no move to wipe at them.
Airbrón shifted her feathers where she stood, leaning over her master slightly, her large head nearly resting atop his. Grief nodded again, before gesturing to his totem. "Airbrón and I shall accompany you, as you request." He took a moment's pause to look over to Mizu as the other nightmare spoke.
"I do believe we need to speak with Master Nightmare to gain that knowledge... I am sure the wait will be no longer an issue."
It was difficult to see the fur she'd left behind at the bottom of his pant legs, but once she'd sufficiently claimed Thought with the scent glands behind her whiskers her form blurred before zooming upwards to solidify sitting across his shoulders. She was slender in form and fit nicely on her chosen perch. The tip of her tail flipped back and forth near his shoulder, purring, eyes half closed in contentment. There was a quick moment while she licked at her paw before settling again.
Thought nodded in agreement at Grief. "After we speak with our Master, we will 'get on with it', so to speak."
Suddenly, there was a light weight upon his shoulders. A glance to the side confirmed it was the cat-like creature, who he smiled at before petting lightly. His wolf-totem gently sniffed in the cat's direction, and then snorted.
"Let us go. The Master should be deeper into the Nightmare territory," Thought said. He mounted onto his totem again (with the cat still on his shoulder, unless she jumped down and he didn't notice).
"Will either of you be requiring a ride to keep up?" he asked, looking at Grief and then Mizu. "My ride has room for more."
 ♞▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Ðarragh Ø'฿reian▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬♞ Grief gave another bow of his head, though he did not kneel in respect of Thought's words. "I have Airbrón as my companion... I will ride with you from above." He glanced up as he said this, almost a sigh leaving him after. "The clouds are looking rather joyful up there... But soon they will well up with tears as arguments occur... Bringing dreadful rain, lightning, and thunder..."
Turning away, he approached his totem and climbed onto her back as she shifted a wing and leaned down for him. He settled and waited on her back for Thought to get ready, watching Mizu surf off into the distance, ahead of them. His shoulders gave a little shake as he gave off a small sob, the feeling of sorrow seeping more out of him again.
In the air, he might produce his own gloomy cloud if he cried enough. Airbrón looked over to Thought expectantly, as if waiting for him to mount and begin their travels.
Glo did indeed stay on her perch. She'd ignored the wolf, but when she'd heard it sniffing at her, her ears had cocked, but otherwise she kept her eyes closed and her purring continued unabated. She slit them open as he'd moved to mount his totem, taking stock of what was going on before closing her eyes again, the slits effectively camouflaged by her dark fur. And then Grief started waxing poetic about some misery or another. She would have rolled her eyes but that would require that she open them so she didn't bother. Going to see the Master. It had been a little while since she'd seen him. Maybe he'd give her a little taste, a little dessert. She didn't mind one way or the other, though one way would have been nice; she was full and sipping at Nightie would be like dessert....or a cocktail.
Through the aether of the world of dreams, a single person strides without fear at all times. Nightmares often are just as often hunted as hunting, creations bent on making others fearful must realize that there will always be something bigger hunting them. Dreams often rally together for some form of security against their oppressors and nemeses. The creators of this world seemed either unwilling or unable to stop the nightmares from preying upon the dreams. Some would say this was why the Knights were created. A team of wildly different individuals, each with personalities reflected by their abilities. This was where one particular knight fell into confusion.
The Indigo Knight was empowered with the ability of void, the unique ability to force a place to have absolutely nothing in it, and the reverse- crushing matter into a ball of gravity. What did that say of her? Her personality was exemplified by shoving all away, or destroying in a crushing embrace? Once upon a time, she may have wondered that. Now, she was totally engrossed in the idea of being a servant of her Lord and Lady. Nothing mattered, nor had anything but that duty mattered for as long as she could remember. Indigo was not like the others. She never woke up. Half the time or more, the other knights would fade out of this world to the waking world, a place that Indigo had no drive to visit. She assumed that she was the only dream made a Knight, and had no reason to think otherwise. Her entire body encased in Indigo-themed armor and a cape to match, she adopted that role without hesitation or reservation.
Whenever she felt or knew of either her Lord or Lady being in this world, she would always race to their side. So it was now, she felt the presence of Lord Thought, and she enacted her power. A void of blackness opened beneath her, and she slowly sank unmoving into the inky hole in this 'reality.' Not far from where Thought was, a second portal opened on the ground, and the form of the Indigo knight slowly rose out of the blackness. The transition was completely silent, noise needing matter to transmit. The portal voids were devoid of such matter, and thus even an owl's flight was louder by far. Close to her Lord, Indigo slowly moved into view, passive and ready for her Lord to give her an order, any order. Until such time, she would remain silent and at his side.
(( *cough cough* Sorry for the delay. ))
Thought nodded to both Mizu and Grief, both needing no ride. He was about to leave himself on his wolf, Snow (he had named her Snowy when he first came to Ethera, and it sorta stuck around), when he picked up on a familiar mind. Indigo, he and his sister's loyal servant.
"She's as silent as always," Thought mused to himself. Her presence grew closer, even though there was no sound.
He addressed the knight, without turning to face her - he would only see his own face in her reflective helm, after all. "Indigo - please come with us."
He then urged Snow into motion, slowly at first and then gaining speed. He was quite sure that Indigo could keep up.
---
The landscape's mood changed gradually as Thought rode towards the Nightmare's territory. Most of the dreamscape was fairly cheery; random fields or plants or nothingness, a few cities, a patchwork of rooms of an endless house. Sometimes it would switch rapidly between those, and sometimes a forest would seem to go on forever.
But as influence from nightmares increased, the pleasantness of the locations decreased. Edges became harder, gnarled and crooked. Colors became muted, contrasting, and fierce. And the screams of the dreamers caught in their nightmares filled the air.
Thought did not stop riding until he reached one of the darkest places, where Lord Nightmare usually stayed.
"We're here," he said quietly to his ride companion. He waited for a moment for the others to group up, and to see if the Master would call them forth for an audience.
Indigo was not the least bit surprised as her approach was detected. She came to respect both her Lord and Lady completely, and as such knew that they were the fabric from which this world was formed. The method was not nearly as important as the result. As such, she never cared if they were 'moral' or 'right.' All that mattered to her was their approval. Indigo had sacrificed more than she could comprehend to remain as she was, and devoted her very existence to the service of the Lord and Lady. Now, in the presence of her Lord, she was passive until he spoke. He bid her join him, and on her body, the mural of etchings again twitched. Under the cover of her cloak, the decoration on her back faded, and from the woods beside her the large spider strode forward. "As-As-As you wish of me, my Lord-ord-ord . . ."
It was entirely possible that the Lord and Lady are the only individuals that have a different reaction to Indigo's 'voice.' To most, she would reflect whomsoever was in her polished sheet of metal that completely covered her face. In the case of Thought and Memory, there was a different reaction. Her words were still unique and spoken with a similar cadence, but the voice was not that of Thought. Instead, her voice was a chorus of male voices. Volume was not inappropriate, nor was the voice that of song. Instead, it was what could be imagined to be thousands of male voices speaking in unison, in perfect mirror to each other. At best, Thought could be seen as one half of the source of all dreams, and thus speaking with the voice of all male constructs could be understood. Thought made them all to an extent, thus was all of them. He was all of them, so speaking with all their voices was appropriate.
With a gesture, the familiar spider Anansi began to darken the area around him. A inky black wave of darkness enveloped him as Indigo used her abilities to warp space around the spider. Without hesitation, she stepped atop him, and laid flat upon his back. Empowered as he was, the spider was able to move without any resistance, his run an effortless glide across the ground. The entire way past ages and landscapes, Indigo remained at her Lord's side, always remaining about 7 o'clock relative to him. The ride was long, but she did not care. She was given an order, and did so without any thought of argument. Upon their arrival, the spider leapt up into the air where the black enveloped the form, and only Indigo herself exited. A graceful landing, and one would never knew her steed was a spider. The orb of black gone, her ride gone, and her power calmed, Indigo resumed her stance at Thought's side.
This place seemed odd to visit, the home of the nightmares. Still, the Indigo knight did not question her orders, and Thought had seen fit to include her. At his side, all was right with this- and any other world.
Grief looked to where a Knight arrived, before their departure. Of course, her appearance sprung more tears from him, as he began to remember the older days of when he had been a knight. He remembered them, despite his accident, his change into a Nightmare, and his work under his Master. It was one of the reasonings of his frequent showers of gloom. The human side of him would keep him sorrowed, feeling hopeless, because there was nothing to undo what he'd become, as far as anyone knew.
The Knightmare listened to Thought speak to Indigo, before watching him take off to start the pace of their travel. Airbrón needed no guiding to spread out her massive wings, and soon they were flapped, and they were being lifted into the sky to travel directly above Thought. To see the former Roc in the sky was like painting a raven on a surface, and then smudging it with a thumb... There was not much but a massive black smear to focus on.
Grief hardly spared a glance at the passing scenery, even as they began to approach their destination. Everything was hopeless to him, though he'd react to them regardless... Trying to meet with their Master felt hopeless, as he probably would get dismissed anyways... The whole invasion seemed hopeless, as it had taken so long to accomplish it as it was, that of course the Knights had probably grown to demolish it... Even this whole management of travel felt hopeless, as there were surely probably others who wanted to attack, or someone might want to break formation, perhaps they could even just get lost... What was the point?
His mournings over the subjects were almost proven right as Airbrón dipped slightly, before she began to circle left, and then around. Only when he lifted his head did he realize they had arrived, and a sigh left his darkened lips. His mount circled around once more, before dropping down for a soft landing. With a breath, she began to dissipate and fade, leaving Grief on his own to stand nearby Thought and Indigo, proving that the massive bird was an attachment of his, and not simply a nightmare on her own.
Turning towards where it was wondered if they would get invited into, by the Master, Grief sank to his knees and buried his face in his hands. Being in that place seemed to make him even more distraught than ever before. "Oh... Why are we even here...?" He moaned, in tears.
(( Pointing out: Though it may seem like it, he's not -always- crying... He's just having a good day. I mean... bad? Good? Grief day? ))
(( Sorry for not posting sooner. I was hoping the Lord Nightmare would post but I forgot to like... PM him. Also I'm having a little trouble thinking of a good reason why Thought would be needed to open portals to the human world. XD And I'm going on vacation this week, so sorry for the short post! Hopefully I can post on the road when I get a better idea, eh?
Also, you're description of Grief amuses me.))
"We're here to see the Master, of course. Why else would we be here?" Thought said briskly. "As for why we need to see him... well, that is all part of his plan with the waking world."
Thought did not dismount, however. Instead, he closed his eyes. He could pick up on other's thoughts better when he did. If the master would bade them into his lair they would go; otherwise, he would get the instructions he needed from their current location.
