Sarodin gazed at the setting sun, he frowned. The lake moved serenely, shining in the twilight's glory. As Sarodin looked at the scenery, rather than his student's absence, he was returned to peace.

"I wonder what trouble the boy has gotten into..." Sarodin wondered. And while no one was there to hear him, he knew she was listening. His words were soon after met with a soft breeze, that leaned a tall cat tail plant onto his shoulder, a reassuring gesture.

Sarodin smiled, "Yes, You're right, he will be fine on his own."

Joss kept following the animal until he realized that the scenery continued to look the same. He soon realized he became lost and stopped. "Where has that thing gone?" he thought. When he stopped, he began to feel a little light headed. He took a look at the strange plants, and realized that if he continued to remain in that place, he would soon pass out.

Durim coughed up a small amount of blood before her growled in anger "That will cause you the most suffering.." He said as he pushed himself up and glared at them, he then let his anger get the best of him, dashing and punching the man that kicked him on the floor, causing a spurt of blood from an extra piece of metal of his glove, kicking one of the last three into the other before watching them run away.

He ignored the eyes and moved to the door, exiting the city and pulling the small map from his pouch. Making his way to the small lake where Sarodin was laying, he sighed and moved closer but not too close as to alert him, or so he thought.

((sorry for Typos. Most of the post were being posted late at night.))

Sarodin heard Durim's footsteps, but did not turn to face him. He simply stood under the shade of a tree, looking out to the lake. After a few moments of silence, Sarodin finally spoke, "You are too brash, Durim, picking fights with civilians. Do not think being a Gauntleteer gives you immunity from the law... Of course, I suppose I did not summon you here to lecture you."

Sarodin turned to Durim, and removed his helmet. His face was old, worn, and scarred. His hair was a homely gray color, and his eyes were a milky white, and were glazed over, making them seem almost spectral. "Do you know why this lake is known as Lillintha? It is because this is a place where some will often see the spirit of our Matron, St. Lillian. This lake served as a home to me when the city was not. It was here that I trained with my father, it was here where I met face to face with the Saint, it was here that I learned my magical abilities..."

Sarodin paused for a moment, then continued, "It was here that Lillian notified me of my father's death in combat, and my inherent responsibilities to the order."

Sarodin beckoned for Durim to come closer. "And here I intend to teach you magic. You will learn to cast destructive waves, imbue Blackheart with flame, and to disable your enemy handily."

Durim nodded and moved closer to Sarodin, his look softened for the tale Sarodin had shared but returned to his standard look. He hooked his helmet on his belt and set a hand on blackheart, letting it rest. He didn't speak a word the entire time, but remained still and at the ready for any instruction Sarodin would give him.

"Magic was long used recklessly, until Luirkan harnessed it and gave it to his most beloved followers, the inhabitants of an impoverish village by the same name as the holy city. As well, he gave them a paradise to call their own. Magic is still a dangerous tool, and will break the weak minded and those with no willpower both physically and mentally." Sarodin began, his whispering voice growing somewhat hoarse, "It was probably never meant to used by lesser men, and I will not lie to you, when my ancestors discovered the way of harnessing a weak magical essence, we must have crossed some cosmic boundary. While we surely would have gone insane with the power we found, It is fabled that Saint Lillian guided us to the foundation of our order, based on the drive of just vengeance, and it was willpower and resolve that is the spine of out structure as a group. So, we are able to harness destructive magic on a weaker level than that of the true Magisters, in order to aid our combat." Sarodin let began to hunch over, feeling pressure build inside him. "You will learn the same way as those before you, for you have been injected by the very instrument that gives us Lillian's blessing of magic and our Armor of Anguish."

As the old knight finished, he let out a heavy cough that racked his ribcage mercilessly. He was seized by a catch in his throat, and fought difficultly to regain his breath. When the fit ceased, he gestured Durim forward, closer to the lake.

"Let's begin... If you were to choose an element of destructive potential, what would it be?"

Durim nodded and moved closer to sarodin, looking at the water "An element..." He said quietly too himself as he looked at the sky then looking at black heart, the choice seemingly weighing a ton on him as he found it hard to choose

((We doing standard five elements? or we doing like D&D elements? and what were the standard five?))
PostPosted: Wed Mar 24, 2010 5:08 pm

((Alcolyte-Dracolius, do you mean the elements of nature? Then it would be fire, water, earth, and air, with the fifth being aether, the element in which Aristotle stated all celestial objects are comprised of.))

"Very well." Standing, Drexel moved out of his seat before pushing his chair back in. "Well now, what more could be in this town? Perhaps a library is nearby? I haven't read good book in some time, I'm sure there must be many suitable to my likings here." Looking into the distance, Drexel's eyes were almost shadowed by the images he recalled in his mind, his iris changed from the usual transparent blue to opaque and solid.

"There is the grand library inside the university of course, but that is not available to commoners I'm afraid" Cailen answered, "Only scholars, nobles, or scribes may access the tomes. Also, allowing a mercenary to enter would discredit the reputation of the university, so you can understand the exclusiveness. The only way you could get inside would be an invite from a noble."

Cailen clutched his stomach as there was a lurch. He leaned forward slightly, and leaned against a column for support. When the feeling of sickness passed, he regained composure.

"I never could hold my alcohol," Cailen laughed slightly, "I can tolerate most poisons, but when it comes to an otherwise harmless drug I'm useless. Don't mind my rambling, if you really want some reading, we could always 'lift' it from some unwitting scholar as he exists the library."

"Wind.. It seems to be the most appropriate.." He said as he looked from the water to sarodin "It will be what carries me through my battles and keeps my vengeance high.."

Sarodin nodded, "Very well, we shall begin." Sarodin drew his blade and gestured for Durim's attention. He stretched his arm forward and had his blade aiming straight ahead of him, out toward the lake. A ray of dusk sunlight caught the sword and glinted off of it.

"We will start with infusing our weapon with the desired element, the practice known as imbuing. In your case, the added force of the torrent of flowing air surrounding the metal will add reinforcement to your strike," Sarodin described, "Now, to activate the wind, you will say the magical word for wind, which is gustil."

In turn, Sarodin spoke the word and his blade began to tremble slightly. Then, a gust began to jet from his hilt, and flew upward along the blade toward the tip, once there it would disperse.

"And to answer your potential question, while I mainly use the black flame bestowed to me by Lillian, I can also preform the other elements do to a long time of learning to master each in moderation," Sarodin said, then turned around to face a dead tree, sword still raised, "Now allow me to demonstrate it's potential."

Sarodin took a step forward, then in a single fluid motion thrust his blade into the trunk of the tree. The combined force of his strength and the wind drove through the bark and into the wood. Then, the air flowed inside the gash made by the still impaling sword, but could not escape. The pressure built as the torrent increased, then the trunk burst from the force, shattering into chunks and splinters of wood. The rest of the tree then collapsed to to the lack of a strong support. Sarodin swiftly pulled back his blade, and the wind dispersed. He then turned back to Durim, and gave a slight smile.

"Now imagine if that was a human torso," His whispering voice said with a note of joy in it, "Now, do not think that you will be able to right away replicate that. You are a skilled swordsmen, but the added force of the blade will throw you off at first. Also, Blackheart will require some adjusting to imbuing, the weapon's spirit must learn to master it as well as you."

Durim nodded and unsheathed Blackheart, looking at it after Sarodin gave his little lesson "Alright.. Gustil." He said as he awaited the reaction of the magic and his blade, A rush of thoughts flooding his mind as to the destruction and very power that not only he held, but now his sword held. A destructive force now given to him to do with as he was told to find right. all rushing through his mind in a matter of seconds. The feeling of time slowing down, from seconds to hours as waiting for the pure energy to fill his blade and become tainted

Joss felt a hand lift him up as he fell to his knees. He was given a mask to cover his mouth. In front of him was a gentle looking man wearing a mask and holding a watering pitcher.
"They get like that if I don't give it water you know." the man said. He poured some water on a particular plant that was in the center.
"This whole labyrinth is actually one single plant. This plant can have various medicinal qualities depending on what kind of soil it grows on and how well you take care of it." He took another look at Joss, "Now, how about we get you some fresh air." He led joss out of the labyrinth.
(Sorry about waiting so long, it was writer's block)

"Well, I wouldn't kill for a book, but far be it for me to prevent you from doing it." Drexel joked. "Some of the poisons you have must be able to knock one out or simply leave them temporarily immobile. Could they be of any use? Or could we possibly sneak in after someone else?" Drexel pondered, recalling that many of the people around were also rogues or people much like Cailen, so there would be little commotion should something of the sort occur. Few would probably care.

Cailen chuckled, but shook his head, "Oh, no, no, friend. No such feats are intended, though I particularly like your thinking. I didn't think you had such a dark humor." He paced momentarily, each fall of his foot landing in the heel of his boot and curving carefully to the toes. "I was think more along the lines of a distraction. Stage a decoy then take the book off his person." Cailen proposed, "Honestly, I think the intellectual field of Lisbon is already bad enough without another scholar dead. Yet I doubt one article beguiled from a trusting individual due to a lack of libertarian access of what should be public knowledge would have much effect." Cailen then noticed a guard that stood post on the corner a few steps away looked uneasily at the two of them. He took Drexel by the arm and pulled him into a back alley street. "Come, It seems those who fight for a symbol of utmost holy value are unwelcome here. That seems to be the last thing you would want, arrested for conspiring to commit theft on the night you were recruited. All for the sake of some light reading."

(By the way everyone, do you think I am doing decently on the charming yet insufferable b*****d that is Cailen? I must admit I have a great deal of fun with this OC)

Sarodin watched the process of Durim's indoctrination with a personal sense of nostalgia, he couldn't help but muster a weak smile. Something in this warrior reminded him not of himself, but the young brash side of every young man and woman he had watched grow into a Gauntleteer. The bold ambition that would soon be crafted into a strong sense of discipline and loyalty to their siblings, and their own path of redemption.

Sarodin placed a hand on Durim's shoulder once he saw that his blade had not rejected the augmentation. He was surprised to sense that it accepted the power gladly, when most tools my first uneasily change to it's designs. A force of wind began emanating from the blade, small gusts lightly flying along the blade. "Perfect, your mind and weapon have adapted to the magic better than most before you. Now, you are ready to test it, but start calmly, or it might overwhelm you." Sarodin turned toward the lake once more, and pointed out to the waters lining the shore. "You blade will be your minds tool of manipulation, like a hand. Now, concentrate on what you wish to do, easily move your blade in accordance to that thought, and it should happen." Sarodin said, "It will be difficult now, but will become second nature in the future. I suggest you begin by lightly disturbing the water, then cause waves to form and up from their."
