London "Bombings" Put Magical Market on the Fritz

By Figgy Prewett
----The normally stable Magical Market took a roller coaster ride following what the muggles are calling terrorist bombings in London. These attacks hit close to one of the most important merchandising centers of the Magical world, Diagon Ally. Wizarding consumers, however, are flooding to this major shopping capital in the largest number that the area has seen in almost a hundred years. These patrons are claiming that they need not to fear an attack in Diagon Ally because of the countless spells that are protecting it. Their fear of another attack has brought all of them to the shopping metropolitan of London to brace themselves, disrupting the steady market.
----The normal upwards crank of the thousands of products bought and sold in the shops and on the streets of Diagon Ally took it's first drop after the attack when panicking witches and wizards began flooding into Gringotts Wizarding Bank and empting their accounts and vaults of all assets and gold. Their fears being that the attacks, three out of four occurring on the London Underground, were an attempt to steal gold from the Goblin-run bank. When the Head Goblin was questioned if these fears were at all reasonable, however, he replied,"The attacks weren't even within a mile of any of our vaults! Even if some idiot did find a way get himself that deep into London, nothing can penetrate a Gringotts vault! Besides, who would want to, anyways?" When questioned why someone wouldn't want to get into a vault of one of the largest wizarding banks in the world, he simply smiled and replied, "You've no idea what's down there, do you? Does no one read the front doors anymore?"
----While Gringotts is having trouble, many other markets are soaring. Many of those who withdrew their money have made magical theft device prices skyrocket. Those who prefer to think that the attack was to hurt people (be they muggle or magical), rather than to get riches, have brought up a different market.
----Foe-Glass, Secrecy Sensor, and Sneakoscopes are all dark detectors. Actually, the most highly sought after dark detectors in Diagon Ally. These little magical gadgets have done so well since the attacks, that their prices have more than doubled and phony ones are popping up all over for slightly cheaper prices. Diagon Ally shopkeepers suggest that those seeking a genuine dark detector should buy exclusively from shops and not street corners."...at least read the warranty before you buy the bloody thing!" said a frustrated shop and repair owner in Diagon Ally who preferred to remain anonymous. "I've had people coming in ever since those damn Death Eaters blew up the underground!* 'The shapes in my Foe-Glass don't move at all...' 'My Sneakoscope hasn't gone off at all, not even when my brother-in-law sneaked dung in my spaghetti and meat balls...' Well, what do you expect to happen when you buy dirty glass and pretty muggle Christmas ornaments without even bothering to read the warranty!? They get all peeved off when I have to tell them they've just spent 20, 30, even 50 galleons on useless pieces of junk!"
----Potion ingredients for protection spells are selling like hot cakes as well. Ingredients to other types of potions are selling as well such as the Draft of Peace, Calming Solutions, Disguising Potions, and other such potions. Books to make all these spells are selling out as well. Mystical items used in divination are becoming new necessities as well. People who have never so much as touch a crystal ball are buying them in six-packs along with incense, herbs, stones, and books to decipher everything from stars and crystal balls to tealeaves and tarot cards. They are all looking for answers as to what is next. One of the largest booms in purchase, however, has been in transportation.
----Magical parents, who once used muggle transportation because of it?s cheapness, are now flooding to the shops for Floo Powder. Their reason being that most magical fireplaces that are connected by the Floo Network are protected from blasts and explosions, like the ones on the London Underground, by charms and spells. Many of those parents are very reluctant indeed to put their children on the Hogwarts Express this fall. "It's bad enough that we have to worry about the usual stuff and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named running about somewhere*. I've written to the Ministry asking to connect a Hogwarts fireplace to us so I wont have to worry about my 3 sons." said a distressed mother of 8 who was buying large quantities of the flammable transporting powder.
----One thing is for sure, the magical world is having an upsurge in buying defensive items at the moment and even the highest resistances in the world will not quench the people's thrust for security. One can only hope that this thirst for protection wont last for long, or it may destroy the market for other items, for leisure and profit, for example.

The Final Year
Chapter 2:
The Marauders

By Christen Wilson
----"Who is that? Where did she come from?" A voice had sounded in Hermione's mind and she was trying to recognize it. "I don't know but we should get her to Madam Pomphrey" another voice replied which sounded more caring then the other. "Moony you always care about everything don't you?" The first one said. "Padfoot shut up?" the one named Moony replied coldly.
----"Make me" Padfoot said. Hermione's eyes shot open at the two names and she sat up at that. Standing there were two boys arguing with each other, one was a sandy haired one with golden eyes and the other one had dark black hair with apparently unknown color of eyes. "Hey if you hadn't taken notice you mutt the girl has woken up!" Moony said shoving him over playfully.
----"Remus please, stop acting like Sirius" another male's voice had sounded from behind Hermione. "Well anyway?"Remus interrupted walking over to Hermione "Are you ok?" he asked helping her up. "Yeah um where is Dumbledore?" Hermione asked. "I'll take you to him if you want me to?" Sirius said getting up from where he fell over. Hermione shook her head "That's ok, um Remus can help?" She replied pointing to him.
----"Oh great a girl we don't know and she knows our names" Sirius muttered which then Remus hit him upside the head. "We were fighting and she woke up during it. We said both our names." He said smacking him again upside the head. "Ok alright stop!" Sirius said sighing. Hermione couldn't help but laugh inside. She used to see Remus do that all the time when she was with Harry and...Ron...Suddenly but slowly tears formed in her eyes as she begin to sob lightly. Remus noticed this and he patted her on the back "Come lets go" He said as if knowing why she was crying.
----The two left the boys staring at them lost in confusion but Remus didn't care, he wanted to get the new girl to where she wanted to go. "What?s your name by the way?" He asked quietly. "Hermione....Hunter" Hermione said quickly making up the weirdest last name she even thought was weird. "Nice last name" Remus said smirking. They had finally made it up to the entrance to his office Remus said the password and let Hermione go on from there. The staircase slowly rose up revealing a door at the end.

----Meanwhile, back where Sirius and James were, Remus walked up and sighed. "Ms. Hunter is surely an oddball like you Lupin" Sirius teased and Remus glared at him. "Oh really, you mean she is smart like me and not like you?" he said smirking. Sirius just rolled his eyes and waved it off. "Well James and I are heading down to the Great hall want to come?" he asked and Remus shook his head no. "I think I'll wait for Hermione"he said.

Back in the Future/Present

----"Where is Hermione?" Harry asked Ron as they walked down the hall and down the stairs to go outside. Ron shrugged. "I haven?t seen her since last night" He replied. Harry sighed and when he hit the bottom step he found his cloak lying in a heap, it was amazing no one stole it. "Ron, I lent that to her last night and here it is without her." He said stopping then he picked it up. "I wonder what happened to her" Ron asked looking around. "Lets go talk to Dumbledore he MIGHT know" Harry said running back up the stairs with Ron following behind him.

A New Beginning
Chapter One:
The Letter

By Christen Wilson

Tom's POV

----I've always thought that my family hated me and didn't want me anymore; hence they dumped me in this Orphanage. Maybe that's what happened, maybe not, I will be sure to find out later, well that's what I promised myself anyway. Never getting to know your family makes it as if you never had them. Of course, I had to get that feeling. Psssh if I could have gotten to known them I would still be there and be...dare I say it, happy. Yes, Happy, Tom Riddle being happy just doesn't sound right when I get to thinking about it, and yes I mean in the cheerful way...It's just sad that I never knew them.
----It was just another normal, yet very boring day at the orphanage, or as we children shall say it, prison but I didn't care, I just stuck to reading in hiding places that only I find. Well today was different cause one of the adults came into the room I was currently residing in with a letter looking very pleased with herself, her name was Sarah Jolkins. "What's that?" I asked curiously as she came up to me and handed it to me. My heart skipped a beat when I looked at the address. Someone knew where I was and it was starting to get creepy, who or what was Hogwarts?. Turning it over I looked at the seal and I could have sworn I died cause it surely felt my heart had skipped three beats so I just sat there breathless staring at the letter. It felt like ages before Sarah tapped me on the shoulder returning me to reality in an instant, I ripped open the side of the letter and two pieces of parchment fell out onto the table I let it fall onto. Picking up the first one I read silently.

----Dear Mr. Riddle,
--------We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later then July 31.

----Yours Sincerely,
----Armando Dippet
----Headmaster.

Sneaking Griffindors, Chapter One: Secrets Revealed

By Christen Wilson
----Alexandria Johnson is such a weird name, in my opinion, but apparently, my parents wanted to name me that and here I am. I only knew my mother for at least one year before she had passed away in a raid of our house, yes those demons in cloaks raided OUR house and killed my mother cause they had wanted to take me but I never knew that since I was only 2 years old. Who would remember when they were two? Not many people but I sure do remember hearing laughter, just cold evil laughter. My sister Serafina saved me and had gone into hiding just to take care of me so I grew up and didn't die or something like that. Oh yeah, I forgot to say something about my father, well the father I never knew cause he passed away a year before I was born and all I know is that it involved his work.
----I did grow up well and all but also somewhat poor. The good thing was that I showed magical signs, like blowing something up (outside, thank god) or levitating an object. At the age of 11 we received a letter from the magic school Hogwarts, I had no idea that I would become a witch, my sister was soo excited because she had gone there and had graduated with honors and everything. Well here I am now, in my second year wandering around aimlessly outside on the grounds because I had gotten detention for what my fifth time? My first year was all grades and studying but now I am getting in trouble as much as the marauders. Well the thing I didn't know was that someone's secret would be revealed to me without them knowing.
----The sun had set on the western side of the castle as I walked down a path next to the forbidden forest. I'm always alone, never with any friends, with no one. Well except my sister and my brother in-law but that doesn't count. Anyway, where was I? oh yeah. I was walking down the path near the forest fiddling with my wand in my pocket. "11 inches basilisk fang and werewolf hair for the core along with it being willow wood." I muttered stopping when I heard something come out the newest planted whompin willow. It was something large and hairy, I wonder what it was but my suspicion soon was figured out, the creature howled at the full moon which meant only one thing. It was a werewolf. Whipping my wand out I pointed it at the creature knowing I won't be able to fend myself off for long cause I am only a second year. "Stay away" I muttered to it but it saw me and crept closer. I stood as still as a statue hoping it would go away. The beast walked up to me sniffing at my robes. Something was familiar about it but I couldn't tell what. The werewolf looked at me after backing up a little then it ran off, the sudden thought struck my mind. "Soft brown fur, golden eyes, was that...No way, Remus Lupin!?"

New Forum Code Released
Posted: Fri Jun 17, 2005
Provided by the loverly Jakobo heart

Gaia Online Forums
New Forum Code Release

Well, if you are here, and you are reading this, then congratulations, you made it with us! What you are looking at hopefully looks exactly like the previous forums, however, we've changed just about everything. Probably the most significant of these is the lack of "archived" or "offline" posts. Additionally, post editing will be reenabled once we know the code is going to be okay. Additionally, there are two known issues we are currently resolving.

1) Threads older than 21 days might be slow to load. This is because they may still need to be paginated. This will add about 2-3 seconds to the thread's loading time for the first load only. From then on, the loading process should be lightening fast.

2) Threads older than 21 days may not be able to have their posts called by ID. A call by id will look like:
http://www.gaiaonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1234567#1234567
We are still in the process of indexing the 40 million+ posts, and should have that completed over the next few days.

The following posts contain some additional information that you may find useful concerning the migration.

FAQs

Why is ______ disabled still?
During the initial hours of the new forum code release, we have turned off most features of the site. Rewriting the forums means that several files have had small adjustments. To ensure everything is working, we are enabling features one at a time until the entire site is live again.

Where did my post go?
If you do not see an older post, it may be that it has not been fully migrated to the new system.

Why did my thread lose pages?
Under the original system, pagination was done in a way that did not work well with threads greater than 100 pages. Often times, going to the "last" page in a thread would return an empty page. This has been corrected, and the page numbers have been recalculated for every thread on the site. No pages were actually lost, but instead, the counter was set appropriately.

Why are my Subscriptions Failing?
Subscriptions may be failing due to any number of things (see FAQ 1). Since they were turned on with the forums, it may take us a bit to straighten them out so that they are working fully.

Why are there only 14 posts on a page?
Under the new pagination system, deleted posts will not cause posts to move "forward" a slot. The result of this can be less than 15 posts on a page. This is expected behaviour.

Hogwarts Monthly Promotions!

I have been fortunate enough to have two more good, fairly steady writers. They may not have been able to write in every issue, but they have put their heart and soul into what they've written all the same. They do not even have to do what they do. I mean, this is their own leisure time that they are writing in and I am proud to promote them this month into a higher rank among my writers. ----I am so sorry this issue is so late! And ?d like to give a huge thanks to my little sister for staying up all night with me last night, writing articles for me, making images, and (on top of all of that) she donated all her pay straight back to paper. She has been invaluable to me in making this issue, and I?m thankful for it. Anyways, I?ve decided to keep my Operation Scourgify ads and I hope you all continue to take pleasure from them. Remember, I want some criticism, so I can improve.

Crowds gather to remember VJ Day

---Witches and wizards all over Europe have met Oxfordshire to secretly commemorate the 60th anniversary of the defeat of the dark wizard Grindelwald, which the muggles call "VJ day". Despite many letters to the minister to rename it "Dumbledore Day"(with gratitude to the man who defeated him), the Ministry has decided to keep the muggle's name for the holiday so that the wizarding world can celebrate as well. "After all," a ministry official said, "the death of Grindelwald was a victory for muggle and magical people alike. It would be a crime to segregate between us on such a glorious day."

To see the full details of the muggle version of this story, go here at BBC news.

Highly Admired Student Will Be Missed

By Mafalda Prewett
---One of the school's most active student, Grey_Temerity, graduated from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with honors. Grey, as many students fondly call him, first came to us (by transfer) on March 14th, 2005. Within his first month here at Hogwarts, Grey not only made more posts than over half the student body, he caught the eyes of the Heads and gained titles like the "Hogwarts Monthly's Wizard of the Month." He not only did that, but he won the hearts of everyone in this school and was asked, unanimously, by the heads and students to be the Master of Ceremonies over the school's first party (that is, under our current Headmistress.) He graciously accepted the responsibility, starting the Bookn? Bash on July 14th and ended with the release of the book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Grey also chose this event to leave Hogwarts with a bang. He imidiately became part of this school and he will be missed dearly. When asked if he had any words of farewell to the rest of the students, he responded kindly with:
"
Of course..

..As I face my final few days here, I am very pleased to be able to contribute to the place that has given me so much. I may have been a tad sarcastic at times. Yet I've still grown a great admiration for everyone and it will be very, very difficult to leave you all and earn millions at the Ministry, for traveling the world, and meeting beautiful women. Well, have fun everyone. Study hard.

..hope it was in time, I'm writing the thread now in another window. Feel free to edit and improve at will. It's late here so it may-well need improvements!

Regards,

Grey
"(Jul 14, 2005)

---Then, with a green puff of smoke and a swarthy swish of his cloak, the man we all came to adore was gone.

Howlers

By BabyShady
---For the past couple of days, I have decided to walk around and examine the mail delivered daily by our wonderful owls. It has come to my attention that Howlers are visiting our school a bit more often than I have ever seen during my days here at Hogwarts. As I was walking around the Great Hall during mail time this afternoon, I saw no less than two howlers delivered to different students that attend our school. In one of the Howlers, a parent was enraged due to their 4th year Slytherin, whom bewitched a fellow 4th year Ravenclaw so that their nose hair grew unstoppably. Another parent had been angry at their child for jixing a toilet in the 3rd floor to shout everytime one approaches them. It seems this generation's children have arrived with a few tricks up their sleeves!

New trading cards

By Marille Earen Black

--- August 10, 2005. After a few weeks of having released a first set of new and highly original trading cards the very well-known Ravenclaw, Aruba Jam, has decided it is time to let a new set see the light. This new set features a few of Hogwarts most active students which have made themselves known either for their activeness or for their academic achievements. So, that means, if you wish to appear in the next batch, you'll have to earn it.
---The collection of these cards is highly encouraged as it helps raise funds for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry seeing as a big percent of the gold earned by every sale will be donated. If you still don't have yours, go buy them before they're all sold or the next group comes out!
