Father Prompt. You've been very blessed throughout your life, especially in regards to your family, which consists of a loving mate and two beautiful daughters.
Your mate is currently feeling under the weather, so you've taken on the responsibility of looking after your two daughters. Where do you take them? What do you talk to them about? Do you try to teach them a life lesson, or do you play around?
-----------------------------
As the two filly's nipped playingly at each other, their father layed under the shady tree nearby, with a smile on his face. He had taken them out, so his mate could have some time to herself, to rest.
They were so young, and delicate. The stallion would never let them be hurt. They were his pride and joy. No one, or nothing, could change that. Each day, he tried to teach them something new. ''You know, its spring now..summers approaching very quickly.''
The two filly's looked a bit confused, but decided to come over and sit next to their father. ''Whats, spring?''
Not exactly knowing how to explain it, he started off a bit shaky. ''Spring is, a time of year. Where things are born. When the flowers bloom, the fruit grow.'' Now having a sense of what he was saying, his voice became more wise, and he continued. ''Spring is the time when the miracle of life, is experienced the most. The time when we appreciate, and ready summer. The time we should cherish, for we live, and grow. ''
Smiling at the two filly's, he arose and nuzzled each of them. ''Shall we return to your mother?''

[[Father Prompt~ :3
The Father- Rutilus: 'Red' in Latin. The Mother- Pica: 'Jay' in Latin. Daughter 1- Penna: 'Wing' in Latin. Daughter 2- Volito: 'Flutter' in Latin.]]Quote: You've been very blessed throughout your life, especially in regards to your family, which consists of a loving mate and two beautiful daughters. Your mate is currently feeling under the weather, so you've taken on the responsibility of looking after your two daughters. Where do you take them? What do you talk to them about? Do you try to teach them a life lesson, or do you play around? 'My poor Pica..' This only thought with any real meaning was swirling and twirling around inside the dark colored stallion's mind, causing him to let out a soft nicker as he looked over at the winged mare, his ears flicking back at the sight of her down-in-the-dumps appearance. 'My poor dear... Not even wanting to play with the two baby girls this morning.. Ah well! I'll look after the two for the afternoon!' Rutilus let a cheerful grin emerge across his lips, giving a flick of his gray and silver shaded tail behind himself as he shifted his gaze away from his mate, now turning his attention to the two dark colored fillies running about and playing with each other near him.
"Come, my two girls! We're going out~" He called out with a smile, reaching out and giving a n** at his pebble gray daughter, Penna, as she raced by underneath him, nearly causing the black stallion to trip over his own hooves as the filly's mane tickled his belly. "Penna, my pretty dear, come back!" Letting out a laugh he shook his head, merely at the pure innocent action his daughter had just made, watching as she giggled and pranced over with a smile across her face.
Penna let out a giggle as she returned to her father, smiling brightly at him as she heard his laugh. "Daddy, what's up?~ Oh! Are we going on an adventure?!" She questioned, giving a tilt of her head, the sky blue bead in her mane giving a soft 'Plick' as it bumped against her cheek.
"My silly girl." Rutilus said with a smile, reaching over and nudging Penna's mane out of her face with his nose, then giving her a nuzzle. "I'm taking you and Volito out on the town for the day, because Momma's not feeling all that well right now." He explained, then raising his head and looking around for a short moment, not spotting his other daughter around. "Now, don't mention this favor I'm asking you to Momma, alright?... Mind helping Daddy find Volito, dear?" He asked with an embarrassed sigh, covering it up with a flashy white grin once again as he heard his daughter let out an energetic 'Yes, Ruti'!'. "That's a good girl! Come along, then~" And with that and a nudge along Penna's back, muzzle brushing past the light blue winged decal planted behind her shoulder, Rutilus started off his 'adventure'.
Volito, meanwhile, was quickly snapping up dark green grass shooting up from the ground with her teeth, the many plants brushing up against her neck and belly as she made her way through the meadow. "Won't Momma be surprised when I bring back some snacks for her and Daddy!" She said out loud with a grin, wagging her ebony and ivory tipped tail as she snacked on a few blades of grass, raising her head up from the brush and chewing. "These are pretty yummy~" The filly said in a muffled voice, smiling and closing her eyes as she continued to make a snack out of the grass in front of her.
"Volito, dear! Come on out!" Rutilus called out as he continued to walk along with his daughter, letting a huff come out from himself as he heard no response from his missing daughter. "And Penna, you're sure you don't know where Vo' is?" He asked, turning his head to look over at his light blue patterned filly, but the result being only quiet and raspberry bushes..
...
....... And no daughter.
"Ugh, Penna, no!" He cried with a look of disbelief, not wanting to believe that he hadn't just lost one of his daughters without Pica knowing, but two of them. "Oh, this just isn't my afternoon.." The stallion muttered with a shake of his head, letting out a huff as a few clumps of his silver colored mane landed in front of his eyes, stomping a hoof against the ground in distress and shaking his head again. The result this time was kinder, the strands and parts finally moving out of his way, and... moving bushes?
He tilted his head to the side in utter confusion, watching as the berry bushes near him rustled and were shifted around by something. Rutilus gave another stomp of his hoof, the dream catcher tied around his neck thumping against his chest lightly. "Who's there?" He called out with a scowl, not wanting to have to deal with more trouble making young ones, or even an aggressive animal.. Which would probably make the situation even worse. As if he wasn't in enough trouble right now!
"Hi Ruti'!" Was the answer Rutilus received, Penna popping her head out from the bushes near her father. Her muzzle had dark blue juices smeared around it, as well as splotches around her eyes and even some of the juice from her meal the moment before dripping off her chin. "What'cha want?"
"...Penna, my dear, what on earth were you doing? You worried Daddy so much!" The black stallion said, but not in an angered tone, no, but one more of relief. He was glad that he had found one of his daughters, and even more so that she wasn't harmed in any way and that she hadn't wandered off any farther. "You, little miss, are staying by me. And that's that! Come on, now... Let's find Volito." He said with a sigh, trotting over to his stained daughter and nudging her away from the bushes, receiving an answer that consisted of 'Aww, come on!', 'But Daddy!', and 'They were for Momma!' "Don't think so, dear! Let's get moving!"
"Daddy, help! Daddy! Daddy, help!" A sudden explosion of dark navy blue, white, and pink speckles appeared in front of Rutilus and his daughter, the unknown thing dashing underneath him and hiding out behind his front legs, crouching down slightly and quivering... It was Volito! "A munster's gonna get me and Momma's snack!" She cried in a muffled voice with a frown on her face, a moderate amount of grass and other plants stuffed in her mouth's clutches, strands of the bunch falling onto the ground as she talked. "Munster!"
"Volito! Thank goodness!" The stallion cried out, surprised by her sudden appearance, with a gaping mouth. He then turned his head to the side, looking down at Penna and then back at his newly discovered daughter at what she had said about Pica and a snack.. "...Eh, Munster?" He asked with confused look, shaking his head at the silly word and prodding at Volito with his nose, looking her over for any injuries or harm, making sure not to touch the mess of plants in her mouth, not wanting to make his daughter mad for messing anything up.
A sudden rustle in the grass and brush near the trio caught the father's attention, causing him to perk up his ears and raise his head, peering into the trodden down mess to get a better look. And then.... a rabbit.
"It's the munster, Ruti'!" Volito cried out, the clump of tangled and messy plants in her mouth dropping to the ground and onto Rutilus' hooves. This caused Penna to also let out a cry, trotting over to her sister and hiding underneath their father, both of the sister's hiding their eyes from the creature into each other's manes.
"...My dears, that's only a rabbit. It means no harm." Rutilus said with a small smile, letting out a huff as he realized the mess on his hooves, giving each of them a shake at a time, then flicking the mess at the rabbit. "Come, my girls.. I think we've had enough fun for one afternoon, eh?" He said, giving a snort at the rabbit to shoo it away, grumbling softly under his breath as she rodent just flicked it's bushed tail. "And.. Don't mention this to Momma, alright. She'll do bad things to Daddy if she finds out that I lost you two.. And with how she's feeling right now, it might be especially bad!"
The two fillies peeked their heads out from each other's manes again, blinking at the sight of the rabbit, then letting out laughs and giggles at the little creature. The two then nodded their heads as they listened intently to their Dear Ruti', answering with 'Okay, Daddy~' and 'Oh no! That'd be bad, Ruti'!'
He then let out a held in sigh of relief, delightedly giving each of his two girls a nuzzle under the chin, his silver and gray tail flicking behind him. "Good girls, then! Time to head back to Momma, then, yes?" And with that, he nudged the two fillies with his nose, giving light and playful nips at the both of their beaded tails as they made their way back to Pica, Momma, Mate, Love... Back home!

His mate was sweet and lovely as a moonlit night and his girls were the most beautiful fillies any father had ever hoped for. Today, however , the love of his life wasn't feeling well and it had been decided ( mostly by her) that it was his turn to watch their precious little darlings. "Alright, my love." He had replied with a chuckle. "Come on, girls!" He called over his shoulder as he began to trot off over the ridge. They raced to his side in a flurry of tumbling feet and giggles. "Where are we going, Daddy?" One foal asked as they walked. He slowed his steps, drawing his little ones in close. "We're going somewhere very special.", he said in a hushed voice. The fillies leaned in to catch his words. " But you have to promise not to tell your mother." The little girls nodded eagerly. It wasn't long before the sounds of rushing waters reached their ears and they stepped into a clearing with a crystal blue waterfall, a deep pool beneath. The foals watched as their father climbed the steep slope up to the top of the falls, backed up. He charged towards the edge and his daughters called out in alarm as he took a flying leap, landing in the pool with gigantic splash. As the wave of water crashed down on the foals, their cries of fright changed to squeals of glee " Me next, me next!" They shouted. He spent the afternoon teaching the girls how to get the most out of their jumps and make the biggest waves. "Now girls," he said, as they started their way home, exhausted and damp. " I don't want you going there without me, ok?" "Yes, Daddy." The foals replied in unison and soon the home pasture was in sight. The girls raced to their mother's side. " Mommy!! Guess what we did today?!" He rolled his eyes and sighed. "Busted."

FOR FOAL 1 ahurhurhur
(I kinda godmoded the dad too is that okay? D8 )
"Mom, mommy, moooooooom~" The filly said, begging to be acknowledged. "Yes?" The mare responded, her voice strained from the illness that plagued her. "Mommy, whats wrong?" The filly asked, concerned for her mother. "Yeah mommy. You don't seem to well." The other filly said. "Oh girls," the mare coughed, "I'm just a bit sick is all. I'll be fine soon." Another body wrenching hack came out after the mare's last word. "Now, girls," A stallion, the mare's mate, said "Your mother is very sick today and doesn't need to be bothered by anyone, not even me. Why don't you go out and play?" The stallion nudged the fillies towards the field. "BUT DAD!" The girls cried out, hurt that they weren't allowed near their mother. "No buts!" The father admonished. "Now go!" He pushed them away with his snout.
~~~~~~~~~ "I hope mom is okay." The blue filly said. "She'll be fine! You know mom, she's you know...Mom!" The pink filly said with slight pride. The blue filly hung her head. "But, she's never been that sick before. I mean...You saw dad when we left right? He looked really sad." The pink filly nodded. "Its not like we can do anything." The blue filly laid down. "I know but....I feel like we should do some thing! I mean..Mom takes care of use when we are sick, why can't we take care of her?" The pink filly bounced. "Thats right! Mom always takes care of us! We should take care of her for a change!" 'But how~" The blue filly whined. That was the problem. How do you help a person who to you, has super powers?
"We can get her medicine!" The blue one stood up, knowing that it would help. "We can't. We aren't allowed to leave the field remember?" The pink one said. "Darn."
"Flowers?" The pink one asked. "No, she can't even smell, remember all that snot?" "Oh yeah..."
"Berries from those bushes she likes?" the blue one suggested. "No, they aren't in season remember?" "Oops, I forgot. Sorry."
This was quite the problem. Neither filly had any idea how to make there mother get any better. "What about something for her mane?" the pink one said. "And how are we going to do that?" The blue one asked, thinking her sister to be an idiot. "Easy! Remember how those people go around gathering things and putting them in each other's hair? We can get all those things! And the next time mom goes to the village, she can get a make over!" the pink one began to grin at he own idea.
"Well, where do you think we should start?" The blue one said, out of ideas. "We can get feathers and pretty rocks, and flowers, and..." The voice of her sister trailed off as the blue one just hoped her mother was alright. ~~~~~~~~~ "Mom! Mom! Look what we got you! The pink filly rushed to her mother and father, both of whom had been asleep. "Huh? Wha-Whats going on? I told you two-" The stallion was cut off as he saw his girls bring in a collection of items. Feathers, stray beads, flowers, and even some shiny, fresh, pleasant smelling leaves. "What is it dear?" The saw the pile of objects. "Girls whats all this?" She asked. "The blue filly nudged her sister forward. "It was your idea." She whispered. "Um mom..." the pink filly dug her hoof in the dirt. "My and sis thought you might feel better if we got you some things..You know..to put in your mane next time you went down to the village...." The pink foals' voice trailed away, lost in a waves of embarrassment. "Oh did you both do this for me?" The mare asked. The fillies looked at the dirt. "Yes mom." They said in unison. The mare nudged away at the items sifting through them gently. "Oh girls. Daisies. And lilies! How did you find these?" The fillies looked at each other...neither of them could remember picking out either of those flowers. "Um...We picked them?" The blue one said. The mare smiled at her daughters. "I don't know how you found them but.." She got up and nuzzled her children. "I'll put them in my mane, first thing tomorrow when go down to the village." "You mean your better?" the pink one asked, astonished. "Really? Your okay?" the blue filly asked not sure. The stallion snorted. "I told you she would be fine. Why do you girls never believe me?" He said. The fillies looked to one another. "YAY! Mommy's okay!" They cried out, bouncing around their parents. The stallion got up and nudged his mate. "Glad to know they listen to me." he said. The mare stifled a laugh. "Oh dear..." She nuzzled him. "They we only concerned for me. The stallion laughed. "You? My love? You won't be brought down that easily, your to stubborn!" The mare huffed. "Stubborn? I-" she was cut off by her daughter's cries. "Mom! She bite me!" "Did not!" "Did too!" "Did not!" "Did too!"
The mare smiled at her children. "At least I know that if I ever get really sick, they'll stop fighting." The mare trotted over to her girls and the stallion huffed at his mate. She truly was the best mother for their foals.
For Filly #2~ Foal Prompt Your mother is feeling under the weather, so you and your sister decide that you both want to do something to cheer her up. Where do you go, and what do you do to try and make her feel better/cheer her up? You are allowed to godmod the sibling foal and the mother in this roleplay((Filly #1: Aoi Filly #2: Azura)) "Azura! Have you found any yet...?" a high clear voice cut rang through the little valley, causing little echos to erupt, Azura, azura...any, any!The little filly turned, her red eyes dim with despair and called back to her violet-eyed sister, "No, sorry, can't find any..." She heaved a great sigh. It was already spring already, but there were hardly any flowers. "So much for 'April showers bring May flowers,' where are the flowers?" She shook the depressing thoughts off as she went off to search again. She swished her tail as she climbed up another hill, the little pink beads jingled merrily in contrast to her rather dismal mood. Yet when she reached the crevice of the hills, she gasped, her red eyes widening in amazement. It was as if spring had been playing hide-and-seek with them all along, and they had finally managed to find it. The little valley was full of tulips of every color of the rainbow, daffadils blossoming, almost any flower imgainable in this one little valley. Azura sighed happily, this is what she would call spring. "Hey Aoi! Come over here! I found some!" called the navy blue filly as she happily prowled among the flowers, drinking in their perfumes. Azura grinned happily as her rather grey colored sister appeared on the top of the hill, and saw the same amazement dawn into her eyes. Then they hurried up and down the little valley, collecting flowers of every kind and color. In the end, they had what Azura would proudly call, a bouquet. It was rather large and bountiful, for the little valley was so full of flowers that the sisters couldn't resist not getting at least one flower of every kind and color. "Hmmm...who should carry it?" asked Azura looking questionably at the rather large bouquet, it looked quite heavy. When her sister shrugged, Azura just said, "Ah well, I suppose I'll carry it then....." With that, they started to trudge back to the place that they had last seen their mother. Soon enough, a grey colored mare with large feathery grey and white wings came into view. Despite all the sunny and cheerful weather, she looked like a gloomy gray cloud just waiting to pour rain down. "Hey Mommy!"called Azura though her mouth was full with flowers, which ended up sounding something like 'eyomy!' She quickly set the flowers at her mother's hooves and smiled happily at her, "Happy Mother's Day! Hope you like the flowers!"Her mother stared at her two children for a long moment, and smiled, it made her whole body look stronger, better, and more relaxed. Tears of joy were in her eyes as she nuzzled her two little daughters speaking inconherent words. Azura didn't need to hear her words to know what they meant: I love you.
Mother Prompt Both of your beautiful offspring have taken after their father, genetically. Neither possess wings, leaving you to be the only one in the family capable of flying. One of your daughters questions you as to why she hadn't been born with wings like you. What do you tell her? How do you explain about the breed differences in Soquili, and why she doesn't have a set of wings herself? You are allowed to godmod the foals in this roleplay response Mother-MaurineFilly 1-DollieFilly 2-Summer Maurine felt the air rushing through her hair, the sounds so soft and subtle, the rush of it all when she was high up in the air. However, her heart felt a bit heavier today. She overheard her daughters speaking about how they didn't have wings, they weren't like their mother, how could she possibly explain this to them she wondered as she lazily flew through the skies. It would only be a matter of time before they actually asked her about it. Thinking about her own mother and how her mother would have told her if she were to ask, but then again it would have been a silly question since she had wings, so did her mother and father. It wasn't a difference. But her wonderful darling mate, he had no wings, he had captured not only her heart but also held her close. She never once thought about it until that day. Spotting the two fillies down in an open field she smiled, they seemed to be out looking for something, "Ah...well perhaps I can help" she said before beginning her decent. Dollie turned at a soft rustling, it was her mother. Her heart skipped a beat, she and Summer had gone out to find something pretty for mother since she seemed so distracted this morning. "Momma!"Summer turned to look and smiled as she ran over to her mother, nuzzling her slightly she could see her wings falling gracefully on her back. "Momma....how come I don't have wings like you?"Dollie smirked and began to say a sarcastic remark before getting a stern look from her mother and dropping her head, she knew better then to pick on her younger sister.Maurine sighed softly, she had thought about this all day, and said softly to her daughter. "Well...you see, there are different types of soquili. Some are earth bound like your father and you two, and some are air bound like me. Others still are water bound. There are many different types and we are all different in that way. Those with wings can fly and soar and those with out can run quickly gently and quietly through the forests and plains. Your father he tamed the wind, however, since he wasn't a type that be in the air you two naturally took after him." She had hoped that her explanation was enough that she could understand."But momma...I want wings like yours...I want to be like you...Dollie likes being like poppa but but I want to see things the way you see them from up high can't I ever see them from up high?" Maurine sadly shook her head, "I'm afraid not my dear. Since you do not have wings you will not be able to see like I see...or do what I do...but my dear you are much more special, don't you see? Your father tamed the wind...he was able to do what few have been able to do, he captured my heart and from it I now have you two beautiful girls. I wouldn't ever trade either of you for someone with wings, because every time I see you I see your father and I am greatful that I can say that since you are able to see and spend much more time with him then if you had wings."Summer nodded, she was slowly understanding that because her poppa didn't have wings she wasn't going to have wings. And after hearing her mother speak about her father in such a loving way she smiled and nuzzled her mother, "Well...maybe I do get to be closer to poppa because of it." Maurine's face lit up did she actually hear correctly? She did a good job explaining to her daughter oh what a relief it was. Seeing Dollie she smiled even more, and motioned for her to come near her. Placing her wings on her daughters backs she said softly, "I am a content mother and mate...I could never ask for a better mate or better children. I am truly blessed."
Mother prompt:
Both of your beautiful offspring have taken after their father, genetically. Neither possess wings, leaving you to be the only one in the family capable of flying.
One of your daughters questions you as to why she hadn't been born with wings like you. What do you tell her? How do you explain about the breed differences in Soquili, and why she doesn't have a set of wings herself?
---------------------------------------
She had been raised by her mother alone, and had been determined to do better with her own children.
Oh, her mother had been kind, and affectionate, of course. But there had been no love there, not really. It was always the off-hand kindness one might give to another’s child caught a-straying. And it had hurt to feel as if she wasn't worth something more even to her own kin. With her own children it would be different, she was certain. She would make sure of it.
So when she realized they had children on the way, it was the most exciting time of her life, filled with eagerness for the chance to prove that she could be a better mother than hers ever was. But then when the time finally came, she’d been caught far from the Kawani village with only her mate to do what little he could, and the birth had been all wrong. There had been so much blood – and when it was over, the exhausted mare had found that everything she had lived for had been stripped away with it.
The once agile and carefree flyer was now confined to the ground, little able to fly more than the shortest of distances before the gasping of her steamy breath brought her down again. Her proud life as a winged Soquili was denied to her.
She still tried to do her best, she really did. But sometimes, when she gazed longingly at the birds flying overhead and felt the earth sucking heavily at her hooves, she couldn’t help but reflect bitterly that this was all their fault. Those two fillies, laughing and nipping at their tails as they slogged their way forward through the underbrush – if it hadn’t been for them, she would be soaring high and free.
“Momma?”
There was her eldest, looking up at her oddly, almost hesitantly.
“What is it, dear?” The words came out more brusquely than she had intended, and though she tried to soften them with a smile, it was faltering and unconvincing. Couldn’t she just be left alone with her thoughts for once?
“How come sis and I don’t have wings like you?”
The question barely made her pause. The simple difference between Wind and normal Soquili was easy enough to explain, after all. But then… why did the little filly seem so serious all of a sudden?
“Well, you see, your fa-”
She looked into those bright eyes brimming with confusion and inexplicable hurt, and suddenly understood what the real question was. If we’re your children, how come we aren’t special like you?
Is that why you don’t love us?
And somehow, the right words were there.
“I have wings because that way there’s one for each of you. I have wings so that I can hold you two close – yes, close just like this – and never have to let you go. I love you, sweetie.”
The filly – her filly, her beautiful daughter – just stared for a moment, blinking wetly, then ducked her head under the warm wing feathers. “I love you too, Momma,” came the muffled response.
She didn’t know where those words had come from, but they felt right and true. So did the instinctive curl of her wing to bring her daughter closer to her side, and the contented smile that seemed to have found its way onto her face for what seemed like the first time since their birth.
She might not have the sky, but she had her mate and her children to care for. Things were going to turn out all right.
(Dad is going to be called Artair and Mom is going to be called Elisha)
Artair woke up to a bright sunny morning after two long days of cold spring rain. He threw his head high and whinned a greeting to the sun. His family lived in a beauitful open meadow but the down side was that when it rianed there was very little shetler to protect the family from the weather. He went over to his lovely mate who was lying on the wet grass and nuzzled her awake. Elisha had stayed by their two fillys the whole time protecting the young ones with her wings and keeping them warm with her body heat. Something was not right with her. She wasn't her cheerful self, Artair could tell she was not feeling well. "I am sorry dear but could you look afer the girls today? I need some more rest." Elisha asked quietly and put her head back down. The girls had already woke up and was playing a little distance away. "Come on girls! Let's let Mom get some rest." Artair said. "What wrong with Mommy?" the girls came over and asked at the time. Artair smiled at them when they talked in unision, but then he shook his head and said, "Mommy is not feeling well, so we need to let her rest. Come on, we will travel to the river and see what adventure we can find there." He bent his head down and nuzzled Elisha. "Get some rest my love." he whispered sweety in her ear, then headed off with the girls folloowing after giving their mom a nuzzle too. "Well girls do you want to race to the big oak tree at the edge of the meadow?" Artair asked. The youngest filly just smiled and broke straight out into a run. Artair started trotting after the youngest filly while the older of the two yelled, "Hey! No fair!" as she starting to run after her Dad and sis. The family ran cross the wet grass with dew drops knocked in the air after them. If you where looking at the family from afar you would say that a rainbow, cause by the dew and sunlight, was following them across the meadow. Finally reach the big oak tree the youngest came to a stop and reared with a winning winny. Artair came behind as the oldest filly just bearly pasted her father and joined her sister. "Well done girls. You may not have wings like your mother but you fly across the meadow faster then the wind." he said with a proud smiley. "Thanks Daddy!" they said in union again. "The river is not to far from here, let's continue on." he said as he started walked on. After a short walk, they came to the river that had over flowed it's banks. "Well no swiming today girls!" he said with a frown "With the water overflowing like this you can't swim because the water would sweep you away. Never swim in a river when it is like this." he added in a serious voice. Hoping that he words reached the young fillys. The girls looked in awe at the fast river and shooked their heads yes. "Well what now girls?" he asked. The oldest one spoke first, "Let us race faster then the wind back to Mommy and check on her." she said as the youngest filly nodded her head to agreed. Artair nodded with a smile for he really didn't want to leave Elisha too long when she was not feeling well. And with that the young family ran back to Elisha with rainbows following them across the meadow just like before.
Mother prompt: Both of your beautiful offspring have taken after their father, genetically. Neither possess wings, leaving you to be the only one in the family capable of flying. One of your daughters questions you as to why she hadn't been born with wings like you. What do you tell her? How do you explain about the breed differences in Soquili, and why she doesn't have a set of wings herself? As the sun's light brushed the horizon of tinging the blue red red mixing to mark the sky at the very edge of the world, or so it appeared to be, a purple hue the female woke.
A gentle fluttering of lashes at first before blue eyes were opened and took in the waking world around her. It was with a gentle quietness that the wind Soquili slowly stoof not wishing to wake her husband, nor her mate.
A soft, loving, smile graced her slumbering family, even if they couldn't see it. Every morning this was the routine and had been for as long as she could remember, even before she'd had a mate or grown into the lovely body she now possessed.
Wings spreading out horizontally before opening up high into the air while she shook herself gently, tail flickering and hair flying about her before she gave a pleased sigh, she felt...refreshed and good.
A look to her family to confirm their state of consciousness and she smiled before stepping away slowly. Every morning since she'd first had her baskets she'd worried something might happen whilst her mate slumbered. But every morning she woke and went off to fly, to spread her wings and feel the crisp cool morning air against her wings, pressing against her body as she moved through the air with such ease and grace, her hair fluttering and streaming about her.
She longed for this morning ritual like she longed for her mates presence, and her daughters presence.
Moving away from them she turned her blue eyes back to the sky and leapt up into the sky her wings opening and catching the air as she once more gave into the morning ritual.
When she did return to the spot in which her family slumbered the sky had now blossomed into hues of pink and orange, yellow and red as well but the highest point in the sky was still blue and the moon, just a sliver at this time of month, could still be seen in the sky.
Moving toward her family she was surprised to note a stirring and it wasn't her mate but rather one of her daughters. Leaning down gently to nuzzle her daughter as she watched her wake a smile graced her gentle features even as a tiny, sleepy voice, spoke slowly.
"Mommy....why are you awake?" Came the sleepy question. Of course she would always return to sleep after her morning flights, to keep her children from finding out. She did suspect at times they were...upset perhaps that they hadn't gained her wings. She had seen the longing glances and looks fixated on her wings in the past and felt so badly that her daughters, neither of them, could feel the air against their body like she did.
Determined to never lie or fib to her children she answered honestly, her voice soothing and soft. "I was out flying this morning my sweet. Tell me, why are you awake?" She asked gently, curious.
Watching her little gray colored daughter she smiled nuzzling her even as she yawned. "I didn't feel you behind me mommy...and I woke up...it was hard I was having a dream...of fl-" The little foals words boke off and ended rather abruptly but she had figured what her daughter had been dreaming.
Lowering her head she nodded. "I see...well mommy is here now my sweet."
"Yes mommy...mommy...?" She small foal asked looking up at her mother.
"Yes my darling?"
"Why is it that we don't have wings...like you mommy?" Of course the foal meant herself and her sister. She had wondered this, as had her sister, for a long time.
Sighing she shook her head, she knew this would come one day. "The fates honey, the gods. There is some plan for you two in this world and for it...wings are not needed. You two are special though wings or not never doubt that you two are special." She spoke softly.
Maybe when they were a little older she would explain how mommy's and daddy's had babies and how traits were passed down. Though still there was more to it then that...there had to be a reason and a purpose and she supposed that her words were true but not the whole explanation, but that would come...all in good time.
"Ohh...so then mommy doesn't mind that none of us have mommy's wings?"
Shaking her head she laughed softly. "No, of course not. I do not mind, you two are lovely and precious to me just that way you are, your both perfect." She spoke smiling before she moved to settle herself back behind her daughter and smiled when her daughter moved to snuggle to her body. "Now go back to sleep my sweet."
Foal #1
Your mother is feeling under the weather, so you and your sister decide that you both want to do something to cheer her up. Where do you go, and what do you do to try and make her feel better/cheer her up? __________________________________________________________
Filly #1 razz ippa, Filly #2: Willow, Mother: Elspeth
Pippa walked thoughtfully into the meadow. Her mother, Elspeth was feeling a little blue and both she and her sister, Willow, wanted desperately to cheer her up. Willow had gone off in the opposite direction whinnying something about flowers. As she glanced over, Pippa could see Willow now, her head bent toward the earth, apparently searching out the best blooms. Pippa turned back to her own quest. She did not want to give her mother flowers. They were every day occurances. She wanted to give her mother something REALLY special.
She walked slowly, looking all around for ideas. In frustration she lashed her tiny hoof out at a group of purple pansies. To her surprise, as parts of the blossoms drifted away on the wind, so did a large butterfly. Pippa caught her breath in awe. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen, next to her mother that is. It was dappled with colors of the rainbow and his wings shone metallic in the sun. If she could only catch him, this would be the perfect gift for her mother.
She followed underneath the butterfly, staring up at him. He was much too high for her to jump at so she would just have to wait until he came lower. Finally her chance came. He drifted down toward a group of wild pansies, and she sprang at him. He rose back up and floated tantalizingly out of reach. She reared on her hind legs and flung her delicate front hooves up in the air, trying to perhaps frighten him down, but to no avail. Pippa landed back on all four hooves and thought hard about this conundrum. Then she got an idea. She snatched up a bouquet of the most colorful flowers she could find and stood very still. The butterfly hung around but came no nearer. After a few minutes Pippa decided to try a different arrangement. Now she got the sweetest smelling flowers and grasped them in her little teeth, shaking them up at the butterfly. He paid no attention. Then she remembered that both of the times she had been close to the butterfly, he had alighted on purple pansies. Doubtfully she picked some, watching the butterfly closely. These flowers were not the most colorful, and certainly not the most sweet-smelling, but as she looked at them they became more appealing. After staring at them for a few moments she could see what looked like cute little faces winking up at her. She picked the most alluring ones she could find and held them up so that the sun shone on them just right. The butterfly rode the air currents lazily down to the flowers. Pippa held her breath as he landed delicately on her very favorite one. This flower had pink and yellow in the middle.
She stared at the butterfly, slightly cross eyed. He was even more beautiful up close. He simply had to cheer her mother up. Carefully, she began walking back to her mother. Pippa put each step in front of the other one, not wanted to jar the glorious creature in front of her nose. During the ride back, the butterfly suddenly stepped from the blossom onto her nose.
As she approached her mother, she saw that Willow had already returned. Her mother was marveling over Willows flowers and praising her. Pippas ears drooped momentarily. What if her mother liked Willows gift better than hers? The flowers Willow had were indeed beautiful. There were some there that she had never even seen before. Then she held her head high and marched into the hollow where her mother was. So what if she didn’t like the butterfly? Pippa loved her gift. Her mother and sister looked up as she advanced.
“Hermm goo mmamma,” she mumbled, proffering the flowers with the butterfly.
“Oh, Pippa, he’s gorgeous,” her mother sighed. Elspeth took the flowers but the butterfly stayed on Pippa’s nose. Pippa pressed her nose against her mothers and the butterfly crawled onto Elspeth’s.
“I wanted you to see him ‘cause he’s pretty and he’s got wings and stuff just like you!” exclaimed Pippa.
Elspeth smiled and in turn pressed her nose against Willows. Willow gasped as the butterfly stepped onto her nostrils. It made a pretty turn as if to let them admire his wings and then went back to Pippa.
“Alright Mr. Butterfly. You can go now. Thank you for letting Mommy and Willow see you.”
She tossed her head slightly, dislodging her little friend. He rose gracefully into the air and flew away slowly.
“Do you feel better Mommy?” asked Willow.
“Yes, I feel much better. Thank you girls.” Elspeth hugged the foals close to her with her wings. “Come on, let’s see where he is going.”
The three sprang out of the hollow to follow the butterfly.
Foal Prompt: Your mother is feeling under the weather, so you and your sister decide that you both want to do something to cheer her up. Where do you go, and what do you do to try and make her feel better/cheer her up?
Trying for foal #2 Name: Anastasia
Foal #1: Tatiana Mother: Alexandra
-----
Anastasia couldn't help but sulk around even though the day was sunny and warm. Just a moment ago she had gone to see her Mother. She was hoping that her mother would want to play or explore. After all, playing with her sister Tatiana had started to bore the filly. But when she found her Mother, Anastasia was disappointed to discover that she didn't feel like playing. In a quiet but sweet voice she had told Anastasia to go off and play with her sister for today.
"Didn't you hear? Momma hasn't been feeling well lately!" Tatiana scolded her sister.
"I didn't know! Or else I wouldn't have bothered her!" Anastasia whined back, but decided to try and get forgiveness for her actions, "Isn't there something we can do for her?"
"Oo! I think that's the best idea you've ever had!" the filly joked with her sister, "Come on! Follow me!" Then she got up on her hooves and began to run.
"Hey! What do ya mean by that? Hey! Wait for me!" she jumped up and started after her sister, unsure of what she was planning.
After some time of running the two reached a meadow. One that their parents had taken them to just days before. The meadow was certainly a sight to behold. Green grass was almost completely covered by wild flowers of every color you could imagine. One couldn't help but stand frozen in awe in front of this sea of rainbows.
"What are we doing here?" Anastasia couldn't help but question once she had caught up to her sister.
"Geez whiz! do I have to explain everything? We're gonna get flowers for Momma!" Tatiana sighed. Then she submerged her muzzle in the sea of flowers. When she emerged, there was a small bouquet of flowers in her mouth. They burst with red, blue, purple, and green.
"Oh! I get it! Surely flowers will make her feel better!" Following her sister, the filly dove into the meadow and brought up many a flower. Then she spun around, ready to head back with her sister. But to her dismay, Tatiana was already running and was quickly becoming a spot in the distance.
"Sis? Wait for me!"
"I'm gonna give Momma flowers FIRST!"
"WHAT?! No fair! WWWAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!"
Anastasia hurried after her sister, determined to catch up. Though she got close, her sister had always been a faster runner. The dark filly was not able to catch up but was never more than a few yards back from her sister. When they reached the spot where their mother lay the two were practically out of breath. Each had wanted to reach their mother first and had run with all their might.
Their mother looked a tad confused as they hurdled towards her and came to a screeching hult. "What are you two doing?" she questioned in the same quiet, sweet voice as before.
Tatiana dropped her flowers in front of where her Mother lay. "I-I brought y-y-you flowers," she managed to get out while trying to catch her breath.
"Me-me t-too!" Anastasia dropped her flowers along with her sister's.
For a moment Alexandra was speechless. She couldn't believe that her little fillies had run all the way to bring her flowers. Their Father hadn't even done such a caring thing for her. Even though she was still feeling under the weather she managed to flash a smile towards her daughters. "Oh you two! Come, sit next to me."
"YAY! MOMMA!" the girls couldn't help but call out in triumph as the hurried over to sit with their Mother.
Foal prompt Your mother is feeling under the weather, so you and your sister decide that you both want to do something to cheer her up. Where do you go, and what do you do to try and make her feel better/cheer her up? Mare - Simoun, Filly #1 - Lumina, Filly #2 - Kaim) Trying for: Filly # 2The sun was rising wakening the foal Kaim from her slumber. She got up with a yawn and then wobbly wandered over towards her sister Lumina “Morning Lu!!” she leaned her head down rubbing her nose against her sister’s backside. The other foal made a grunt and opened one eye to look at her sister in a tired manner.
“Why must you rise so early?” she grunted while getting up and smacking her lips together.
Kaim just ignored her sleepy sister’s comment and looked over towards her sleeping mom“Lets wake mommy up?’ she giggled and Lumina yawned while looking over at their mother as well. Giving a nod towards Kaim the two moved closer towards the wind mare’s sleeping form. Both at the same time lowered their heads close to their mother’s head and giving her a nuzzle on each side of her cheeks.
“Wake up!!” they said together causing the mare to open her eyes slowly. Letting out a yawn she raised her head and as her eyes became better focus she saw her two hyper daughters standing before her. As she went to get up she found herself just laying back down again for she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. Perhaps she ate something that didn’t agree to her tummy? Either way she felt like her stomach was turning though she didn’t feel like she had a cold or a headache.
“What’s wrong mommy?” Lumina looked at her mother with concern. “Mommy isn’t feeling too good.” the wind mare told them and Kaim just gave a confused look. She moved towards her mother and resting her forehead against her mother’s forehead. As if trying to feel if she had a fever. At least that was what mommy would do for them if they felt on the ill side.
“Doctor Kaim what is wrong with mommy?” asked her sister.
“Well Nurse Lu I do detect a bit of warmness. But nothing to think it to be a fever!”she assured her. Then looked over her mother again “Though I do think it’s best if she rests up a bit!” with that she backed away from her mom to give her some space. The wind mare couldn’t help but smile as they attempted to play doctor and try to see if she had a fever going on. “Oh Doctor Kaim and Nurse Lumina, thank you so much!” the wind mare said to them and couldn’t help but laugh a bit. Though that turned to a “Oof..I shouldn’t laugh it hurts right now.” she told her daughters.
“You just rest now mommy!’ Lumina said to the wind mare while looking over towards Kaim. She jerked her head as if trying to hint her to leave mommy rest for now. Kaim took the hint and started to head over towards where she last saw some apples.
“Now you two don’t wander to far!”
“We won’t!” they both said while walking over towards a tree that had apples in it. On the ground around the tree was fallen apples and Kaim looked around for a good one. Using her front right hoof she gently nudged the fallen apples to turn so she could see if any were bad or good. When she found a good one she leaned down to take it in her mouth.
“I fwn ne (I found it)” she talked with the apple in her mouth while her sister rolled her eyes. She tilt her head “Hut (What)?” giving Lumina a confused look.
“How do you expect me to understand a word coming out of your mouth with an apple in it?” she made a huff sound while trotting over towards a set of beautiful wild flowers in all sorts of colors. She just had to take some and to give to mommy! Hoping maybe they might make her feel better so she leaned down to pick some with her mouth. She then walked back over towards her sister who gave her a look. She would speak but was to afraid she might drop the flowers so the two headed back over towards their resting mother.
Kaim was first to place the apple down before the wind mare “Here mommy! Eat up!” she leaned her head down to nudge the apple closer to her. The wind mare looked towards the apple and was wondering if it was wise for her to eat it right away. However she gave Kaim a smile and used her left front hoof to drag the apple closer to her.
“Thank you so much Kaim!” The filly with the pink markings couldn’t help but smile proudly as her mother thanked her. The other filly though wasn’t going to have it for she too wanted to be praised and so she placed her picked flowers down “Look mommy! Look what I brought you!” the wind mare looked over towards her other daughter. To see beautiful wild flowers in which her daughter took the time to bring her.
“Oh Lumina! They are so beautiful!”
Kaim just rolled her eyes and huffed “Show off!” she mumbled under her breath while looking away. Of course Simoun caught her daughter’s comment and gave her a look, it wasn’t a scolding look though.
“I love both of your gifts! You both took the time to find something to bring to me to try to cheer me up!” Simoun said while looking at both of them and seeing them both smile with pride now. The wind mare just shifted a bit since she was feeling better “You know what? I think I’m starting to feel better!” as she said that their tails started to swat about happily. “Doctor Kaim your amazing!”
“Thanks Nurse Lu!” Kaim said sternly and all three of them burst into laughing.
First Filly Your mother is feeling under the weather, so you and your sister decide that you both want to do something to cheer her up. Where do you go, and what do you do to try and make her feel better/cheer her up? Cast :~: Filly 1 – Lomasi Filly 2 – Reina Mother – Mama
// ~ //
Plum and crimson eyes peered through the bristly foliage in unison, blinking in perfect timing as they stared oh so obviously at the oh so oblivious winged goddess while she lay curled and tired beneath a knot of smooth rock by the pulsating coast. The great forest thinned as they'd followed her shaky wanderings towards the small cave from the outskirts of the two-legger village she liked to frequent. It had been a strange going, the sisters chirping and nipping for their mother's attention despite her weak head shakes and small words of light disapproval. At length, they'd pulled back, frowning and confused and unused to this distant voice and being that was currently their usually bubbly and vivacious mother.
Now they could only stare at her in utter disbelief as she seemed to tremble now and then -shivering? But there was no cold wind! The opposite, in fact, as the incoming summer brought with it finely warm breezes from the wood and plains, counteracting the semi-shiver-worthy licks from the open sea. So why would she be so...?
A jittery wet breath made the ever plotting Lomasi blink away her current train of thought, turning her gaze from her mother to the now also trembling sibling beside her. "Masi-" Reina's near hiccuping voice came out slushy and slow, "Masi, you don't think mama's broken... do you?"
Lomasi blinked. There was an idea she hadn't thought of yet. Her sister's continued silence made the red-eyed filly continue, voice raising in intensity and volume slightly. "Oh she is, isn't she! Daddy went away, and now mama's broken!" The darker toned sister's hiccups quickly turned into soft whines and whimpers, though the other didn't dare let them have a chance to grow to wails and uncontrollable sobs.
"Oh come on! she huffed, smiling brightly despite the not-so-happy seriousness of the moment. "Rey, if mama's broken, we've just gotta fix her, that's all!" Slowly, Reina's sobs quieted, a quivering lower lip and wet, puffy eyes all that remained from her previous near-tantrum. Just as the other's fears had fed off of Lomasi's silence, Reina's lack of commentary made the elder sister grin further (that even possible...?). She jumped into the air a bit, hind legs lashing out playfully behind her. "Yeah! Dad's gone off to help out- er, someone, so that leaves us to save the day!" That, really, was the most fantastic of all concepts the filly'd ever concocted in all her life. They'd be the heroes! Not mom, who was the victim they needed to save. Not dad, who was the usual doer of heroic acts as he was the biggest and the daddy. Nope, not either of them, the girls would do all the saving today.
Her sister's enthusiasm was contagious, Reina stepping forward to bump foreheads affectionately. "So how're we gonna save mama?" Her voice was stronger, confident and trusting in her sibling's plans. After all, since when had Lomasi's plottings and plans ever gotten them into trouble? Not that either stopped to really consider the blunt fact either parent had always been around for their escapades, as that was unanimously, silently deemed irrelevant and was completely disregarded.
The lighter sister paused for a but a moment, muzzle scrunching up as she flicked her gaze side to side -mother, sister, mother... She stomped her hoof once as a thrilled expression came over her. "What does daddy always get us when we're feeling sick?"
It was a simple enough question. Reina nodded her head once in unspoken acceptance to the equally unspoken plan. One quick shove to her sister's side in the right direction, and Lomasi was off like a two-legger's flying stick. Her dark hooves barely seemed to touch the sloppy, sticky, muddy ground she metaphorically flew over. Rock, rock, tree root, plants -a game of jumping from solid object to solid object was without its laughter or mistakes as she moved. In no contrast, Reina kept to her side, hooves just as majority clean of muck. They weren't strangers to the forest, nor to the strange little sandy, mucky, watery place that was their destination.
The sisters blinked once at the place where the river met the sea, the same crisp river that emptied the lake they loved to swim in, that swept past the two-leggers' home where their parents would often take them for treats and to play with the little two-leggers. "A dell-ta," she whispered, keeping the unsure pronunciation strong less Reina realize she actually had no idea if this was indeed the name their father had called it once. Flicking her tail, she stole away from her solid shadow and trotted down towards the edge of the water. Carefully, she took a sip of the water, balking when the taste of what her father'd called "salt" crept into her mouth with the pleasant fresh water. Yep. Icky water means sweet grass.
Turning her gaze to the tufts of green along the bank of the disgusting water, she shrugged lightly before carefully pulling up some of the delicious tendrils. It was a rather great temptation to simply gobble them up herself -a glance towards her scowling sister told her the feeling was mutual- but her will was strong and unwavering -how else did dad get them sweet grass like this for them to eat back at the cave? He was strong willed, and so shall they both be!
Steadying her precious cargo in her mouth, yet another glance towards Reina and again she shot off back into the forest. An unmarked trail guided them back towards the southern tip of the cove closest to the delta, curving back around towards the cave and thusly their mother.
As they'd left her, she lay curled and shaking beneath the protective rocks. A sad sight, really, as Lomasi heard her sister whimper once they drew to a steady approach. Goddesses shouldn't ever be sick, or feel pain, or need to be saved... they where the heroes, not little foals like them.
"Mumu?" Distorted by the grass in her mouth, she wasn't shocked to see her mother not even pay her words a passing glance. Carefully, so as to keep the winds from snatching the blades away, they set the cure at their mother's hooves. Mouth clear, she tried again when she saw her dark blue ears twitch in their direction. "Mama? We brought you something. Look, look!"
Dull blue eyes opened at her eldest daughter's voice, pausing to watch Reina settle down beside her and snuggle up as any affectionate, seeking-to-make-everything-better child would. "What did you two bring me, Reina?"
Lomasi stood tall and proud as she declared instead, "We brought you a cure for your- broken-ness!" Oh yeah, so smooth. No, you did not hear her falter, nope nope!
The mare opened her mouth slightly, a small huff of shocked air passing through the gap. Briefly her eyes closed, and for a moment the filly wondered if perhaps getting the sweet stuff hadn't been such a good idea. Head lowered in shame, she took a hesitant step forward, trying all she could to see her mother's eyes behind the veil of black.
"Mama, I-"
"My hero."
Lomasi watched as her mother slowly consumed the herbs, a soft smile on the mare's face. Tired, and yet... the filly was grinning as she caught her mother's eye. The blue depths were bright and alight with unspeakable joy and life and kindness -just like a mama's eyes should be. Giving a whinny of thrill and self-pride, Lomasi pranced to her mother's side where Reina had already snuggled up into the maternal warmth. As she joined her sister, the little one couldn't help but snicker at the day's adventures. She was a hero. Mama said so! Her. Lomasi... a hero. Snuggling up into her counterpart and mother, with images of her soring through the air on imaginary wings, saving the wood and the plains and the beach and the mountains one flick of the tail at a time...
A wicked, playful, wondrous grin spread across her sleeping face. This was something she could get used to.
((I'm sorry if it's bad. I bummed out since my Grandma is in the hospital in critical condition.. I can't think straight... But I'll try. ))
For Foal #1 Names: Foal 1 - Tsinoq Foal 2 - Noquisi The mom will just be Mom... P:
--
The two sisters glanced at each other. Worry filled the similar eyes and the same thing crossed their minds. Why was Mommy sad? Their hooves pawed at the ground nervously.
"What about giving her flowers?" The lighter blue one offered.
"Cliche!"
"A basket of fruit?"
"Puuuuh-leeeeaaase!"
"...I'm out of ideas!"
"I'm not even trying to think of ideas!" Nosquisi added in, grunting.
The pairs of eyes glared. They broke apart.
Tsinoq one broke the strange silence. "Ooo. Let's bring her somewhere. Say... Umm... I dunno... I guess some place with an awesome view of something... Like a sunset on a waterfall or something?"
"That's stupid."
"You're stupid."
The two glared once again. "Sheesh! There's nothing else we can think of. So fine. I still think it's stupid," the other one said, finally giving in.
"...I still think you're stupid... And nu-da," grunted Tsinoqui. The trotted off to find their mother and bring her to the special location.
***
The mother's eyes were closed tightly. "...Can I check n--"
"No!" they answered continuously.
***
"Okay, now," Tsinoq annouced proudly. She puffed her not existant chest out.
The mare's eyes opened her blue eyes. She stared wonderously at the sight. Shades of purple, pink, gold, and blue decorated the sky. Clouds swarmed around the sun and the waterfall glistened brightly and crashed into the calm lake below. "Beautiful," she stated simply.
"That's not all!" Noquisi chirped in. She trotted over to a patch of uneven grass and pulled out a basket containing flowers, a few apples, and a few lumps of sugar hidden inside a bag towards her. "We saw this two legger that was really nice. Gave us treats! We want to give them to you!"
The mother smiled and nuzzled the foreheads. "You two are too sweet.." she whispered. They weren't the best gift, but of course a gift from your child was always the best. Afterall, who could be sad after such efforts?
For the father:
You've been very blessed throughout your life, especially in regards to your family, which consists of a loving mate and two beautiful daughters.
Your mate is currently feeling under the weather, so you've taken on the responsibility of looking after your two daughters. Where do you take them? What do you talk to them about? Do you try to teach them a life lesson, or do you play around?
---------------------------------------
How could she do this to him?
Sure, he loved his new mate – at least, he was pretty sure he did – and their daughters had turned out gorgeous, but it was too soon, they were too young. He was too young to be saddled with the responsibility of two hyperactive young fillies ready to gambol their way right off the nearest cliff at a moment’s notice. Life was for the living!
Not for the babysitting.
“Where’re we going, Poppa?”
“Yeah, I don’t recognize this place.”
“It’s pretty, though, isn’t it?”
“It’s a surprise,” he said gruffly. Truth be told, he had absolutely no idea where they were either. But he wasn’t about to admit that, and surely they’d find their way back to familiar territory soon. Right?
Yes, it really was her fault. Mares were supposed to take care of the children, that was their job. But she’d suddenly come up with a terrible headache today, and like the lovestruck idiot he was the stallion had volunteered to take her daughters off somewhere so they wouldn’t be driving her crazy with all their pestering. All he could think now was, No wonder she had a headache.
The trees suddenly ended, and sunlight fell on the dark coats of the twin fillies skipping brightly ahead. A field of tall grasses and wildflowers stretched out in front of them, with butterflies dancing their way from blossom to blossom. A lot like the two of them, the black stallion grumbled to himself, watching them whoop excitedly and crush the foliage with their exuberantly flying hooves – not a thought in their heads aside from how to get from one pretty thing to another. They did paint a pretty picture, though, with the bees buzzing and the birdsong in the air…
“Poppa!”
He jerked, nearly reared to kick before he realized it was only one of the fillies. How had she snuck up on him so quickly? “What is it now, you- uh, dear?”
“I just realized why you took us here! It’s to make an extra-special surprise for Momma, isn’t it?”
“Uhh-”
“Cool, what a great idea! She didn’t sound too good today, did she?”
“No, she-”
“Hey, an’ this grass tastes really good and sweet an’ all. We could bring her some of it, couldn’t we?”
“And these flowers too, aren’t they pretty?”
He gave up. “Sure, have at it. Yes, yes. I’m sure she’d love that.”
Valiantly the two fillies set about collecting, bravely resisting the awful temptation to chomp down on some of that delicious foliage. They might already be a little crushed and wilted, their colors clashing dreadfully, but soon they had as much as they could carry. He had even let them weave a few flowers into his braided mane as well, though he wasn't entirely sure how that had happened. Yes, what a pretty picture we must paint, he mocked himself, hoping beyond hope that they didn’t come across anyone who actually knew him. At least the two of them seemed to know what direction they were going.
“Momma! Guess what we’ve got for you!”
So. So they could think about things other than themselves - once in a while, anyway. So maybe they weren’t quite the little terrors he had thought they were. And so maybe because of them, his mate would soon be smiling at him happily, the lines of pain erased from her face as if they had never been.
So none of that mattered. He still didn’t want to be a father, and would still give up all of this nonsense in a heartbeat for the carefree lifestyle he used to lead.
…Right?
